Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.799653 Composed by D. M. Gardner. 20th Century,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 62 pages. D. M. Gardner Music #481037. Published by D. M. Gardner Music (A0.799653). An intense hell-fire blazes throughout Day of Wrath. Though it begins quietly and mysteriously with the haunting Dies Irae chant, the audience is swept into a picture of hell painted by light and sound as the piano viciously churns-out its relentless melody against the turmoil of the choir... Driving to the ultimate end: Understanding whom we are to fear. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. Luke 12:5 (King James Version)Day of Wrath is a performance not soon forgotten. Choreographed lights and sound add to the illusion of hell-fire and brimstone, while cello harmonics sail above the choir with an eerie crystalline presence. An opener, a closer... A crowd-pleaser for sure. If you want to break-up the praise and worship a bit, Day of Wrath will certainly wake up the audience!PURCHASE INCLUDES FULL SCORE AND ALL PARTS - Priced as a choral score (so, please purchase one copy per performer...Thank you!)Instrumentation: Cello, Narrator, SATB, Piano, Timpani, Cymbals, Bass DrumPremiere: University of Nebraska at Omaha - University ChorusDifficulty: Intermediate/AdvancedText from KJV version of the Bible and Dies Irae (Tomaso de Celano)To learn more about the composer, please visit https://www.dmgardner.com

Piano Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548651 Composed by James Pierpont. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas. 17 pages. Jmsgu3 #3408091. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548651). A unique arrangement of Jingle Bells arranged for a piano quartet (piano, violin, viola, cello, and optional sleigh bells). The first verses are based on the traditional version. After an abrupt modulation, the third verse explores an augmentation canon, while the viola pursues a wild sleigh ride passage. Meanwhile, the tune is fragmented and sequenced in the piano. It gets wild but straightens out for the final refrain. Score: 7 pg, 68 ms. String parts: 2 pg. Sleighbell part: 1 pg. Piano part: 3 pg. Jingle Bells is perhaps the most famous song in American music history. James L. Pierpont published the song One Horse Open Sleigh in the late 1850s. Since its introduction, people began to insist that Pierpont wrote it for a Sunday school choir. However, it seems unlikely that such a secular song would be considered appropriate during that historical period for Sunday school. Christmas Repertoire Pierpont wrote the song for the Thanksgiving holidays, but over time people began to think of it more as a Christmas song. Some choirs adopted it as part of their Christmas repertoire in the 1860s and 1870s. Jingle Bells was first recorded in 1889 on a wax cylinder. Origins No one knows where Pierpont composed the song. One theory suggests he wrote it in Medford Massachusetts in 1850. Sleigh races were certainly popular in 19th-century Massachusetts. To this day, a commemorative placard appears in Medford Square claiming that it is the birthplace of Jingle Bells. Others suggest that he wrote it in Savannah, Georgia where he was an organist and music director at the Unitarian Church. This theory gained support from the copyright date of 1857. We know he was living in Savannah by then. Traffic Signals Horse-drawn sleighs are relatively quiet in the snow. Consequently, horses were usually equipped with bell-laden straps so as to avoid accidents at blind intersections. Sleigh drivers in 19th Century New England were constantly vigilant, listening for the sounds of approaching horse-drawn sleighs. The tune imitates the rhythm that the trotting horse bells produce. Social Context Jingle Bells was sung as a drinking song at local revelries: during the song, folks would rhythmically jingle the ice in their glasses. A sleigh ride allowed couples to be alone together. The term Jingle bells is a poetic descriptive adjective referring specifically to the more accurate term sleigh bells. In many arrangements, sleigh bells accentuate the rhythm during the song's chorus.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1130066 By Fletcher Henderson And His Orchestra. By Clarence Williams. Arranged by Peter Stöve. 20th Century,Jazz. Score and parts. 84 pages. Peter Stove #730446. Published by Peter Stove (A0.1130066). Peter Stöve ‘What If Benny Goodman…’ series, Vol. 3! (A take-off on events that could have happened with the Benny Goodman Orchestra’s book of arrangements if things in jazz history had taken another turn). As jazz history books like Gunther Schuller’s tell us, Benny Goodman’s rendition of Jelly Roll Morton’s ‘King Porter Stomp’ in the arrangement of Fletcher Henderson ‘ushered in the Swing Era’. That this tune already had a long and venerable career was obvious to every jazz lover: starting with Morton’s own recording from 1923, it was revived on a regular basis by Fletcher Henderson for his orchestras of the ‘twenties and ‘thirties. He then adapted the tune for the Benny Goodman Orchestra, which made it a hit in 1935. And from that moment on, the tune stayed popular: in 1975 it was recorded by the Gil Evans Orchestra for the album ‘There Comes A Time’. But during the ‘twenties, Henderson picked up more ‘jazz and stomp’-tunes (as opposed to the Tin Pan Alley/Broadway fare) and had them arranged for his orchestra. One such example is a tune credited to pianist/bandleader/businessman Clarence Williams (although other sources state that it was actually written by Joseph Joe Jordan, one of the early ragtime ‘professors’). That is the composition ‘Hop Off’, a very swinging, hard-driving multi-strain tune. Henderson recorded it in 1927. However, unlike ‘King Porter Stomp’, Henderson never chose to ‘adapt’ this tune for his ‘thirties swing-style orchestra, and so it never became a part of the Goodman Orchestra’s band book. What if Henderson had done so, and in 1935 had handed over the tune to Goodman as an addition for his ‘Let’s Dance’-library? ‘Hop Off’ is presented here as a piece that could have been a cornerstone of the Goodman band library. Based on the 1927 Henderson arrangement, it juxtaposes the two main strains of the original composition for maximum variety. Plenty of breaks, stoptime-sections and other ‘hot’ stuff. Scored for the line-up of the Benny Goodman Orchestra of 1935: solo clt/2 as/2 ts/3 tpt/2 trb/rhy. Tpt 1 to Eb3. Solo’s for clarinet, tenor sax 1, tpt 2, trb 1 and a brief four-bar spot for the drummer at the end. If your band is able to play ‘King Porter Stomp’, this tune should cause no problems. The only exception is the presence of a solo clt part. The clarinet soloist must be a first-class ‘BG-wannabe’: fluent soloist, comfortable in the upper register. Must be able to be heard over a shouting ensemble chorus. If your band has such a player: have fun!

Instrumental Duet,Piano Harp,Instrumental Duet,Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971648 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary,Spiritual. Score and parts. 38 pages. Musicart Publications #4367732. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971648). Watercolors of Earth and Sky is a work that celebrates the beauty and opportunity of nature through four musical movements. This work is for violin and harp (or piano). The violin part incorporates special techniques that help shape the sound and overall texture of the work. Each of the four movements presents an aspect of the composer’s experience in parks, plains, and woodlands. The music is also colored by the composer’s work as a performer of both classical and jazz music. As with other compositions by Jeffrey Hoover, there is a series of four paintings by Hoover with the same titles that are visual interpretations of the music. Images of these paintings that can be projected in performance are available directly from Hoover. This work is appropriate for performance for a broad audience.Jeffrey Hoover's works - ranging from music for soloist to symphony orchestra - have received recognition through the prestigious Trieste prize, the Russolo Competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications, fellowships, and more than 20 commissions. He is a member of the ACME roster of Mu Phi Epsilon, recognized for distinguished achievement in composition. One unique aspect of Hoover's work is when he combines his compositions with his own paintings, creating synergetic works. He is the author of The Arts and Society: Making New Worlds (Kendall Hunt Publishing).Born on September 11, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana, Jeffrey Hoover holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts (Composition and Interdisciplinary Fine Arts) from Texas Tech University, as well as a M.M. and Bch.Sc. from Ball State University. String quartet (double bass ad libitum) - easy to intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q771524 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by Wolfgang Birtel. Downloadable, Score and parts. Op. 50. Schott Music - Digital #Q771524. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q771524). The music of small forms was to become the focus of the French composer Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924). In 1874, after many years spent in the 'provinces', the teacher of Camille Saint-Saëns took the position of organist in Paris; later he not only worked as a church musician but also as a teacher. In the summer of 1887 Fauré wrote his Pavane Op. 50, originally intended for a concert providing light entertainment, which soon gained wide popularity as an orchestral setting with and without the chorus added by Fauré. The romantic, slightly melancholic melody is a catchy tune which, thanks to the present arrangement, can now also be performed by a string quartet. In the summer of 1887 Fauré wrote his Pavane Op. 50, which soon gained wide popularity as an orchestral setting with and without chorus. SAB chorus & Piano - Digital Download SKU: IZ.VMS154 Composed by Van de Venter and Weeden. Arranged by Bradley Vogel. Score. 8 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #VMS154. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.VMS154). 6.75 x 10.5 in inches.Judson Wheeler Van DeVenter was born near Dundee, Michigan, on December 5, 1855. Trained as an artist, he became an art teacher and later supervisor of art education in the public schools of Sharon, Pennsylvania. An active layman in the Methodist-Episcopal church, DeVenter showed particular skills during annual evangelistic meetings held by the church. Church members urged him to become an evangelist, and after five years of wavering between ministry and his desire to be recognized as an artist, he committed his life to one of evangelism.DeVenter travelled extensively throughout the United States, England, and Scotland, assisted by the singer Winfield Weeden. Although an active hymn-writer, only two hymns remain popular today, one of which is I Surrender All. Given the nature of his call and commitment to ministry, the text of this hymn gains deeper significance.
