This poem is a monologue, in which one soldier speaks to the fiancé or girlfriend of a dead soldier of his death- mourning his loss and regretting that he will never have the pleasure of the dead soldier’s company again. The poem was inspired by the supposed death of Ivor Gurney’s best friend Willy Harvey in August 1916. Reality told a happier story than the drama described in the poem: Harvey was not in fact killed, but had been made a prisoner of war, returning to his fiancé Sarah Kane at the end of the war.

It was only subsequently that he arranged them into 4 cycles of 12 preludes, drawing also from earlier compositions. Written in a traditional pianistic style, they are short sketches which are sometimes characterized by musical thoughts, sometimes by moods or by natural phenomena. The fourth volume presented here is once again divided into two cycles of 6 preludes each, with the first cycle paying tribute to the landscapes and towns of Friuli north of Venice.The 48 Preludi are either short sketches or expansive concert pieces which also allude to types of setting or themes from the piano music since Scarlatti. Suitable for music lessons and competitions, either individually, in freely formed groups or as a cycle.

The French Tuba (Saxhorn Basse and later Tuba Français in Ut) was the bass of the low brass section in most french orchestras until around 1977, when the american tubist Mel Culbertson arrived to France and changed their tuba world. When Maurice Ravel made the orchestration of Mussourgsky´s Pictures at an exhibition, he wrote the famous Bydlo solo for this small instrument, the French Tuba. Nowdays this solo is comonly played on either Euphonium or Bass Tuba. It is a good thing to have this solo fresh by playing It in public and here is an arrangement that respects the orchestral part of the French Tuba as is but with some little changes in the piano part that makes It very enjoyable and interesting to perform as a part of your recital.As now the French Tuba is getting available again, I made this arrangement with this original instrument in mind, but It can be played with Euphonium or Bass Tuba as well. There is an extra part in treble clef if needed or prefered.

He wrote it while with Depeche Mode, but recorded it in 1982 after forming the duo Yazoo with Alison Moyet. It was released as Yazoo's first single on 15 March 1982 in the United Kingdom, and became an instant success on the UK singles chart, peaking at number 2. It was released again in 1983 in an a cappella version by the Flying Pickets and became the UK Christmas No 1 that year. Vince Clarke originally wrote the music for the song on a guitar, and transposed the riff into synthesizer notes. This is clear from the chord structure so I have arranged it using a constantly descending bass for the first two verses. For the final verse, to give a sense of drama which is clear from the lyrics, I have switched to a three fingered chord rhythm but kept elements of the descending bass. The little tune on the outro could be sung but if you have a second guitarist could also be played.

Through my music I wanted to share the range of emotions and the hardship of parting when they were to go home to their native countries again.
