Instrumental Duet Cello,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.802591 Composed by Louis-Hector Berlioz. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 1 pages. Peet du Toit #5828393. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802591). Symphonie Fantastique (Fantastical Symphony: Episode in the Life of an Artist ā€¦ in Five Sections) Op. 14, is a program symphony written by the French composer Hector Berlioz in 1830. It is an important piece of theearly Romantic period. The first performance was at the Paris Conservatoire on 5 December 1830. Franz Liszt made a piano transcription of the symphony in 1833 (S. 470).Leonard Bernstein described the symphony as the first musical expedition into psychedelia because of itshallucinatory and dream-like nature, and because history suggests Berlioz composed at least a portion under the influence of opium. According to Bernstein, Berlioz tells it like it is. You take a trip, you wind up screaming at your own funeral.Symphonie Fantastique is a piece of program music that tells the story of an artist gifted with a lively imagination who has poisoned himself with opium in the depths of despair because of hopeless, unrequited love.The original way in which Berlioz fused all the ingredients and elements into his music with great emotional intensity and musical brilliance makes this symphony such a masterpiece. It was truly revolutionary in that nothing like it had ever been heard before.

Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute,Bass Flute,Piccolo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.581861 Composed by Hector Berlioz. Arranged by John Gibson. Romantic Period. 86 pages. JB Linear #2846671. Published by JB Linear (A0.581861). Set for flute choir by John Gibson (piccolo, flute 1-2-3, alto, bass, contrabass)The Rob Roy Overture for orchestra was composed in 1831 by Hector Berlioz with Sir Walter Scott's Rob Roy as inspiration. Scott's book took a rather romantic view of Rob Roy MacGregor as a Scottish Robin Hood character.  Rob Roy was born in 1671 and became a folk hero and the focus of a number of movies.  Berlioz used rollicking Scottish jig figures and many parts of the piece were later re-worked into his Harold in Italy for viola and orchestra.Berlioz's overture set for flute choir requires sufficient forces of players to carry off his intentions, so I suggest this be played by a large flute choir, preferably with at least 3 on a part for the flute, 2 on alto, and 2 on bass, A single piccolo and contrabass flute would be adequate.  Of course, a smaller group could perform this, but a larger one might be more successful.  The piece is about 9 minutes long.
