This is the least well known of Purcell's three versions of this text, and by far the most vocally challenging.  This edition is for low voice having been transposed down a perfect 4th from the original.  The tempo markings are editorial and offer a guideline to traditional performance practice for the work.  This would be a great opening piece for a recital or as part of a diploma/college exam programme.

This arrangement for 8-part horn ensemble is of Purcell's short anthem, which was originally written in 1682 at the beginning of his tenure as organist of Westminster Cathedral in London. The harmony is, for it's time, deep and complex and this makes for a very satisfying piece.

The PDF download includes a full score and all eight parts. Horns VI and VIII are in bass clef.
