This hauntingly beautiful aria from the finale of Purcell's, Dido and Aeneas, is rightly one of the most famous in baroque opera. Thinking his love for her has faded, Dido sends Aeneas away but unable to go on with out him, takes poison and sings this lament in the arms of her maid, Belinda. Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation was originally an unaccompanied plainsong melody, translated in 1851 by John Mason Neale from the second part of the Latin monastic hymn Urbs beata Jerusalem. It is now commonly sung to the tune of Westminster Abbey by Purcell and currently growing in popularity. A favorite of the British royal family, it has been performed at their marriage ceremonies and Elizabeth II's platinum jubilee and funeral service. This is an Intermediate String Trio (two violins and cello) arrangement. A separate sheet is provided for the each instrument along with the score.
