As an experienced classroom music teacher, two of the main difficulties I have faced have been:

* having the time to arrange music for standard classroom instruments such as keyboards, ukuleles, guitars, tuned percussion etc.

* finding suitable arrangements of Western Classical pieces to contribute to a broad and balanced curriculum

The Classroom Ensemble Series meets both of these problems head on, providing approachable yet challenging arrangements which are tailor-made for a large classroom ensemble. Each piece includes a score and parts as follows:

This arrangement of Rondo from 'Abdelazer' enables all students within a classroom, regardless of ability, to make clear progress on one or more of the parts provided. You can use the YouTube video above as a backing track within the classroom, helping the students to play together and freeing you up to teach. Or you can lead the session yourself.

This is a dramatic and attractive setting of the traditional text by Nahum Tate (1652-1715). Tate was an Anglo-Irish poet, hymn writer and lyricist, who became Poet Laureate in 1692. He’s best known for The History of King Lear, his 1681 adaptation of Shakespeare's play. He also wrote the libretto for Henry Purcell's timeless opera, Dido and Aeneas. 

The traditional melody of While Shepherds Watched is well-known, but this new setting brings in a wealth of new musical material. This is a tuneful work and is sure to be enjoyed by your singers and audiences alike. It is in 2/2 time throughout but journeys through several contrasting keys. It’s also available for SSA and SAT choirs with keyboard accompaniment.  There’s an a cappella section in the middle and more suited to experienced singers. The piano part is not difficult and should be within the reach of any competent pianist. This piece would be ideal for Nativity presentations or would make an excellent addition to your Christmas service or concert. 

With a duration of 03:05 the vocal ranges in the SATB version are as follows: Soprano: D4 – G5; Alto A3 – D5; Tenor: C3 – E4 and Bass F2 – C4.

The Hole in the Wall by Henry Purcell arranged for Piano Quintet. This work (also known as Hornpipe No. 8) originally comes from Purcell's work 'Abdelazer' or 'The Moor's Revenge', a suite of dance pieces. 

The tune has been rearranged for Piano Quintet here and turned into a chamber music performance piece. This can still be danced to!

This can easily be played by a beginner to intermediate group as none of the parts are particulalry difficult, though some natural creative licence has been taken with the original interweaving parts for the harmony and rhythm.
