This work for trombone and organ is part of the 2024 Suite for Trombone and Organ, which is geared toward the younger, less experienced player, with works that can be performed at church services and other occasions.  Dido's Lament, from Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas is a lyrical, somber piece, giving the younger player the chance to develop phrasing and legato playing.  The emotional mood of this makes it perfect during reflective times of a service, especially during the Lenten season.  The range is one that a typical high school player (or advanced middle schooler) could play, with rhythms well within the reach of players at that level.  The solo part is well-supported by the organ part, with hopes that rehearsals can be minimal in putting this together for performance.  There are two other movements to this 2024 Suite, both available on this site as well.  Please give that young musician the chance to shine!  Also included is a treble clef part that could be played by trumpet, treble clef baritone, or tenor sax.

My Grandfather's Clock was composed by the American composer, Henry Clay Work (1832-1884), in 1876.It was spread all over Japan through the broadcasting of NHK in 1962.The edition of string quartet was arranged by Diau-Hua Lim in 2003.It starts with pizzicato of second violin to imitate the tick-tock of an old clock. After the appearance of pizzicato of the cello, the melody performed by the viola shows the long memories witnessed by the grandfather's clock. With the graceful obbligato by the first violin, the music becomes more and more abundant.
