Metta Prayer by Paul Severson and Karen Warren-Severson was a favorite of the AWE community and is the melodic basis of the second half of the piece.

(The lyrics of the Deutschlandlied were written by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben in 1841 on Heligoland.) In 1922 it became the national anthem of Germany.
