The music is composed as set of variations that intertwines Orpheus’s theme with each of the characters he meets along the way: Charon the ferryman, Cerberus the three-headed dog, Sisyphus forever rolling a boulder up a hill, Persephone the queen of the underworld, and finally, his beloved Eurydice.
