Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1335055 Composed by Erik Satie. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Chamber. 22 pages. RayThompsonMusic #920917. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1335055). Satie: Parade - Final & Suite au Prélude de rideau rougeArranged wind dectet/bass (double wind quintet)The concluding music for Erik Satie's Ballet Parade.Other movements from Parade are available. Background info:Parade is a ballet choreographed by Leonide Massine, with music by Erik Satie and a one-act scenario by Jean Cocteau. The ballet was composed in 1916–17 for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The ballet premiered on Friday, May 18, 1917, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, with costumes and sets designed by Pablo Picasso, choreography by Léonide Massine (who danced), and the orchestra conducted by Ernest Ansermet. The ballet was remarkable for several reasons. It was the first collaboration between Satie and Picasso, and also the first time either of them had worked on a ballet, thus making it the first time either collaborated with Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes. The plot of Parade incorporated and was inspired by popular entertainments of the period, such as Parisian music-halls and American silent-films.Much of the settings used in Parade's plot occurred outside of the formal Parisian theater, depicting the streets of Paris. The plot reproduces various elements of everyday life such as the music hall and fairground. Before Parade, the use of popular entertainment materials was considered unsuitable for the elite world of the ballet. The plot of Parade composed by Cocteau includes the failed attempt of a troupe of performers to attract audience members to view their show. Some of Picasso's Cubist costumes were in solid cardboard, allowing the dancers only a minimum of movement. The score contained several noise-making instruments (typewriter, foghorn, an assortment of milk bottles, pistol, and so on), which had been added by Cocteau (somewhat to the dismay of Satie). It is supposedthat such additions by Cocteau showed his eagerness to create a succès de scandale, comparable to that of Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps which had been premiered by the Ballets Russes some years before, and caused no less scandal.Although Parade was quite revolutionary, bringing common street entertainments to the elite, being scorned by audiences and being praised by critics, nonetheless many years later Stravinsky could still pride himself in never having been topped in the matter of succès de scandale. The ragtime contained in Parade would later be adapted for piano solo and attained considerable success as a separate piano piece. The finale is a rapid ragtime dance in which the whole cast [makes] a last desperate attempt to lure the audience in to see their showI have omitted the  percussion in my arrangement of the finale. The premiere of the ballet resulted in a number of scandals. One faction of the audience booed, hissed, and was very unruly, nearly causing a riot before they were drowned out by enthusiastic applause. Many of their objections were focused on Picasso's cubist design, which was met with cries of sale boche.Arranged wind dectet/bass (double wind quintet).

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1119919 By Mike Lyons. By Mike Lyons. Classical,Contemporary. Score and parts. 111 pages. Lyons Music Services #721269. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.1119919). Festival:(Time 7:05) This is an original, previously unpublished piece, composed specifically for the ICF festival 2022. It is a programmatic piece in 3 sections, with each section being a description of some aspect of the word Festival. I have taken the broadest definition of the word festival to give as much scope for variety as possible.  The first section opens with ‘sunrise’ on the day of the festival, shown by long-held open fourth chords, with the snapping of the violin pizzicatos (perhaps) being the rattle of tent lines/guys. The bass clarinet solo then shows people waking up and stretching, yawning and just before Letter A, the descending figures throughout the ensemble bring us all together to start the festival. From Letter A, one sets off at a marching pace through the crowds. We hear a mish-mash of vendors’ calls overlaying each other, repeating variations of the same motif and this little tune develops as it moves around the festival site, sometimes loud and sometimes faint. At some point, of course, arguments break out (e.g. Letter B between the strings and brass), but generally, the mood is business-like. At Letter C, there comes a parade of minstrels through the field which eventually fades off into the distance. At Letter D, we look at a different kind of festival. Not necessarily religious, but certainly spiritual. The harp and bell sounds evoke far-eastern temples while the string harmonics evoke an eerie stillness which is broken only by the melodic fragments (based on the 4ths of the first section) which pass around the orchestra. The theme is first heard on the Cor Anglais (echoed by the harp) which gives it a warmer, less piercing, sound than the oboe. The quartal chords at b.149 denote the vast mysteries of the cosmos. As our gaze widens, we are suddenly brought back to Earth with a rush as yet another kind of festival is evoked. This time we are looking briefly at the Indian subcontinent. Where fakirs charm snakes and young boys climb ropes only to disappear. The third and final section returns us to the British Isles, where the Celts are making merry in a festival. There is dancing, singing, feasting and drinking a-plenty. And, just when you think it’s all over, there’s a final push to get another dance going. The final chords are a reminder of the opening as we finish our revels as the sun descends below the horizon in a beautiful sunset.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.914739 Composed by Sol Paul Levy (1881-1920). Arranged by Eric J Roth. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Individual part. 6 pages. Eric J Roth #4593125. Published by Eric J Roth (A0.914739). 6 pages (2 pages of music) formatted for 8.5x11 printing.Sol Paul Levy, born  in Chicago, Illinois in 1881, was a composer, arranger and performer of silent  film music. He attended All Hallows College in Dublin, Ireland and served as  first clarinetist in bands led by John Philip Sousa and Arthur Pryor. Levy led  the foreign orchestrating department for Victor Records – which was the first  music company to produce the disc record – and was a founder of Belwin Music. Levy  compiled a series of photoplay cues for piano that was published in H.S. Gordon’s 1914 Motion Picture Collection. He also wrote songs, the most  famous of which was That Naughty Waltz. Sol Paul Levy died in New York in 1920. During the Silent Film Era (1896-1936), showings usually featured live music, which helped to provide  dramatic and emotional cues for the audience. The first public silent film shown  in 1895 was accompanied by a guitarist. Soon after, films were commonly accompanied  by either a pianist, organist, or chamber orchestra. Accompanists often  improvised or compiled music from the classical, theatrical or popular repertories  using a cue sheet identifying the effects or moods to be conveyed. While some  films produced full scores or detailed cue sheets containing excerpts of music  unique to that film, a repertoire of generic music soon developed to provide accompanists  with music that they could adapt as needed. With titles such as Dramatic  Conflict, Dramatic Tension, Heavy Mysterioso, and Weird Oriental Theme, Sol  Paul Levy’s scores clearly served this purpose. The Vampire: A  Dramatic Theme, composed in 1917, could have been easily adapted to any of the  more than twenty films about vampires that appeared between 1909 and 1930. The  score exists in three versions: one for small orchestra with piano conductor,  one for chamber orchestra without piano, and one for chamber orchestra without  timpani. Instruments included piano, flute, clarinet,  two cornets, trombone, two timpani, two violins, viola, cello, and bass. Despite being composed for small  orchestra, the piece, composed in A minor, is well suited to the guitar once  instrumental and octave doublings are removed. While a solo guitar cannot  produce the power and volume of a chamber orchestra, it certainly can evoke the  intended mood. Except in a few instances owing to the limitations of the guitar,  all original dynamic markings have been retained. All fingerings, of course, are editorial. Please note that some of the fingerings in the score may differ than those used in the linked YouTube Video.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553894 Composed by Joseph Haydn/Leopold Mozart. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Children,Christmas,Classical,Standards. 35 pages. RayThompsonMusic #6050327. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553894). This work was long reputed to be the work of Joseph Haydn, but later scholarship suggested that it was actually written by Leopold Mozart. Its authorship is still disputed, however, and other composers have been proposed as the symphony's true author, including Joseph Haydn's younger brother Michael Haydn, who purportedly contributed movements to the work.Recent research on a newly found manuscript suggests the Austrian Benedictine monk Edmund Angerer (1740–1794) to be the author. If Angerer's manuscript (from 1765, entitled Berchtolds-Gaden Musick) is the original, the Toy Symphony was originally written not in G but rather in C. These findings, however, are disputed among scholars. There is reason to believe that the true composer will likely never be known, in whole or in part, given its confused origins and the paucity of related manuscript sources.Even without a name attached to it, the piece has become a mainstay for children's shows and Christmastime concerts. Each of its three movements features the sounds of actual toys and instruments that sound like they came straight from Geppetto's workshop. The piece calls for a toy trumpet, ratchet, nightingale, cuckoo, drum, and triangle. ( A quail makes it’s only appearance in the 2nd movement.Noisemakers rattle throughout the first of its three movements. The cuckoo and trumpet  call out mischievously during the minuetto of the second movement , and a quail joins the nightingale in the trio. In the short third mvt which is played 3 times, they all play again, each repeat faster than the previous one.The presence of the toy instruments make this a fun piece for children to play, especially when there are also some toys waiting under the tree.My arrangement is based on the Kinder-Symphonie attributed to Leopold Mozart. It is scored in C.It is in 3 mvts and is arranged for wind quintet, and toy percussion. It can be peformed as a stand alone  wind quintet without percussion as all of the important cues (the trumpet and cuckoo) are written in to the instrumnt parts.i have distributed the original strings around the woodwind, and composed an original classical horn part.Sometimes known as The Children’s SymphonyAlso available as a wind dectet/bass arrangement.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.998879 Composed by Robert A. Howard. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Score. 4 pages. Robert A. Howard #6480941. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.998879). The Fragment series of short piano pieces was conceived for pianists of almost any standard. As suggested in the title, each piece is based on a single compositional fragment or sketch that had otherwise remained incomplete and dormant. Fragment VI is the final piece in this six-movement piano cycle (though Fragments may be performed separately). The work's main middle section bears some similarity in tone and mood to the first piece in the cycle, Fragment I. Fragment VI is slightly more technically challenging than the previous movements. It has an arch form whereby the two, slow, initial introductory sections return in reverse order as the conclusion. The extended centrepiece section cumulatively builds in texture, dynamics, and tension, and is a set of modal variations over a 4-bar descending ground bass. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for almost all standards of pianist, including students and more advanced players. Other works from the Fragment cycle are also available via Sheet Music Plus.Duration: 4 minutes 10 seconds.Registered with PRS (Performing Rights Society, UK).Composer's website: www.roberthowardmusic.co.uk

Chamber Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1471118 Composed by Robert A. Howard. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Religious,Spiritual. 17 pages. Robert A. Howard #1048771. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.1471118). In Memoriam, for chamber orchestra, is a short but powerful work. It was specifically composed in memory of the composer's father, but the work can be used to the reflect any loss, or similar sentiment. The point of departure is the pounding repeated tones (the note D, for Death) at the start of the Lacrymosa of Benjamin Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem; a work which mourned the death of both its composer's parents. Throughout my In Memoriam, the repeated pedal note D is literally ever-present and obsessive, like the looming of death itself, and the percussion take a somewhat military role. The main melodic idea is a twelve-note theme stated at the beginning, though the music is not strictly serial. This theme undergoes various transformations and orchestrations, depicting the many facets of a character who essentially remains themself. More optimistic interludes feature woodwind solos, but the note D always remains. A passage of stark two-part counterpoint is followed by the disintegration of the main theme before a varied return of previous material. Then follows the inevitable dominance of the note D, in crescendo, before the work abruptly ends, frozen still. The work is highly accessible for both performers and audience. The attached document is the score only, with audio for reference. Note that the 3rd & 4th horn parts are optional, or they could be played on 2 trombones.Duration: 5 minutes 30 seconds.Registered with PRS (Performing Rights Society, UK).Composer's website: www.roberthowardmusic.co.uk
