Howard (A0.1408376). Lines on a Walk II takes its title from the Pedagogical Sketchbook by the Swiss-born artist Paul Klee (1925). Klee was fascinated by music (he played the violin) and many composers have interpreted Klee's notion of 'line' as a way to conceive musical melody. Lines on a Walk II is an abridged chamber version of the original Lines on a Walk piece that was flexibly scored in 15 instrumental parts. This second version is specifically written for flute, clarinet, piano, percussion (any 3 apt untuned instruments, plus marimba & vibraphone), violin, and cello. It was written for IXION and first performed by them, conducted by composer Michael Finnissy in 2001. Note: this document is the full score only. It features a 3-verse structure (mirroring the text), with coda. The piece builds up throughout, as an attempt to depict the increasing sense of abundant love, referred to in the text. The main melodic material is deliberately simple and rather folk/chant-like. This essentially appears as a single line in the first verse, becoming a two-part canon (by one bar) in the second verse, and finally a two-part canon (by half a bar) in the third verse. The imitative coda leads to ultimate resolution at the end. The work is highly accessible, and is designed for performance by good SA choirs, able to effectively sustain such unaccompanied singing. It takes the form of a 7-verse Epiphany carol, with introduction and coda, setting a poem by Laurie Twinam. Verse 1 gives the option for a single solo voice. Otherwise vocal lines, for two-part (SA) choir or duet, retain the folk tune contour throughout, with fairly simple harmonies and a canon. Around this, the piano accompaniment weaves a set of characterful variations, as a commentary on each differing verse, which is always linked by a 2-bar 'turnaround'. The work explores aspects of both major and minor tonality, as well as modality (with the characteristic flattened seventh), thus working within and around the given folk idiom. This piece is appropriate for virtually any standard and size of SA choir, including school, student, community, church and cathedral choirs, as well as for duet. The accompaniment can be on piano, or for organ if slightly adapted by the player. The solo/unison and 4-part SATB versions of this piece, as well as the solo piano version (Variations on 'Barbara Allen') by the same composer, are also available via Sheet Music Plus. This trio arrangement uses the same harmonies on all three verses making it easy to master in a short time. Though the song is bold and communicates a sense of urgency, it should not be sung so fast the meaning of the verses are overshadowed by the powerful chorus. The original hymn included 5 verses and a lyric sheet is provided showing these additional verses. The vocal parts are classified as intermediate; however the piano accompaniment is more in line with advanced-intermediate skills. Song of the Jet, translated literally as Airplane Samba) is a Brazilian song composed in 1962 by Antônio Carlos Jobim, who also wrote the original Portuguese lyrics. The English-language lyrics are by Gene Lees.In the biography Antonio Carlos Jobim: An Illuminated Man, Helena Jobim describes how her brother came up with the idea for the song: Tom's many walks from Ipanema to Santos Dumont Airport yielded that ode of beauty... He would head towards the airport, following the water's edge around Guanabara's Bay. The pretext to go there was to buy foreign magazines and newspapers. From Santos Dumont Airport he could observe his passion, the airplane. Yet he still kept some distance from those machines. He was afraid of flying, but he loved their power, splendor, and aerodynamics-man's conquest over machine.In the song, Jobim writes about landing at Galeão in Rio de Janeiro. The airport was renamed in his honor in 1999 and is now called Rio de Janeiro–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport.Jobim wrote Samba do Avião for an Italian film, Copacabana Palace (1962), where it was performed by Jula De Palma and I 4 + 4 di Nora Orlandi. This work was long reputed to be the work of Joseph Haydn, but later scholarship suggested that it was actually written by Leopold Mozart. Its authorship is still disputed, however, and other composers have been proposed as the symphony's true author, including Joseph Haydn's younger brother Michael Haydn, who purportedly contributed movements to the work.Recent research on a newly found manuscript suggests the Austrian Benedictine monk Edmund Angerer (1740–1794) to be the author. If Angerer's manuscript (from 1765, entitled Berchtolds-Gaden Musick) is the original, the Toy Symphony was originally written not in G but rather in C. These findings, however, are disputed among scholars. There is reason to believe that the true composer will likely never be known, in whole or in part, given its confused origins and the paucity of related manuscript sources.Even without a name attached to it, the piece has become a mainstay for children's shows and Christmastime concerts. ( A quail makes it’s only appearance in the 2nd movement.Noisemakers rattle throughout the first of its three movements. The cuckoo and trumpet  call out mischievously during the minuetto of the second movement , and a quail joins the nightingale in the trio. In the short third mvt which is played 3 times, they all play again, each repeat faster than the previous one.The presence of the toy instruments make this a fun piece for children to play, especially when there are also some toys waiting under the tree.My arrangement is based on the Kinder-Symphonie attributed to Leopold Mozart. It is scored in C.it is in 3 mvts and is arranged for double wind quintet, bass and toy percussion.i have distributed the original strings around the woodwind, and composed original classical horn parts.Sometimes known as Children’s Symphony.
