The Navy Hymn, also known as “Eternal Father, Strong to Saveâ€, holds a special place in the hearts of seafaring men and women, particularly in the American Navy and the royal navies of the British Commonwealth. In1879: Rear Admiral Charles Jackson Train, a Naval Academy graduate, was stationed at the Academy in charge of the Midshipman Choir. He initiated the practice of concluding each Sunday’s Divine Services with the singing of the first verse of this hymn. Thus, it became a cherished tradition at the Naval Academy and eventually throughout the entire Navy.
