By Stacey Plays Hymns. By Stacey Plays Hymns. Arranged by Anastace. Christian,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred. Lead Sheet / Fake Book. 3 pages. Anastace #1053816. Published by Anastace (A0.1477116).

As of this publishing, over 137,000 people have found my one video collection of funeral hymns on YouTube, not including separate postings of each individual song. Because of this it's been on my mind for a long time to write a funeral song, but it was somehow just never the right time until just a few weeks ago when this one came pouring out in 5 minutes flat [which does not happen often, I can assure you!]. The culmination of years of playing for funerals, a bachelor degree in theology and sacred music, and many more years of writing and playing music through good times and also times full of grief, Lord of All Our Days is my very best and heartfelt attempt to serve those who are also dealing with the absolute heartache of loss, be it the acute, fresh grieving of just losing someone or the flashbacks that come time and time again, years and even decades later.

This song carefully and tenderly handles the true earth-shaking grief that it is to lose someone you love, while holding out a strong hope of the life to come for those who trust God. I had a very difficult time recording it without being moved to tears over and over, and I pray it will reach many in need of comfort, being of service to anyone who is looking for a Christian, Biblical funeral hymn for a memorial service or a celebration of life service.

This is the exact guitar version I used to record the Outdoor Acoustic Version of Lord of All Our Days, as heard on all streaming platforms. It is intended for use as a burial song, sung softly and reverently accompanied by a quiet guitar at the internment portion of a funeral service if music is desired at the graveside. I recommend playing it on capo 3 to match the original or a few higher to match your voice. You may also prefer to get the other version in C major and save using a capo. This version is just easier for a slightly more beginner guitarist. One other recommendation is to play it even lower so people can sing very quietly, i.e. capo 1 or even no capo at all, depending on the voice of the person leading the song.

Also available, by searching Stacey Plays Hymns and the song title on this site, are the following versions:

Piano Vocal in Bb Minor to match the original recording [vocal range: Bb3-Bb4]
Piano Vocal in C Major for easier playing and a better congregational vocal range
Lead Sheet for piano or guitar in C Major - best key for singing without a capo
A backup music mp3 track for soloists to perform with in a service, including the full backup choral arrangement.

For other formats including large print, a different key to match a soloist's preferred range, or piano solo for a matching prelude or postlude, please write me at staceyplayshymns@gmail.com and I'll be glad to make them especially for you. Purchase includes a free license for one funeral or memorial service with under 1000 people, with proper attribution and credit in all printed or online materials. For a license to use this work on a larger scale, please contact me for permission and other usage details including lyrics formatted for printing in church bulletins or for powerpoint. Please let me know if there is any other way I can serve you as a congregation or fellow music/choir director as I endeavour to write several new choral anthems per year, along with my other recording work.

Thank you for supporting modern hymnwriters and musicians!

Composed by English ballad. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Easter,Lent,Sacred. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #951781. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1367409).

Perhaps the most often-sung processional hymn on Palm Sunday, “Ride On, Ride On in Majesty” was written in 1820 by Anglican cleric, poet, and scholar Henry Hart Milman (1791-1868) and first  published in Reginald Heber’s Hymns Written and Adapted to the Weekly Church Service of the Year (1827). The hymn references Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem prior to his Passion, as recorded in Matthew 21:1-11.

Writing for the Hymnology Archive of The Hymn Society in the US and Canada, editor Chris Fenner notes in his
analysis of the text that:

“This hymn ... is much less a narrative or paraphrase of the triumphal entry (Matt. 21, Mk. 11, Lk. 19, Jn. 12) than it is a forward-looking hymn pointing from the palms to the cross to [Jesus’] ascended position on the throne. The triumphal entry itself is a fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9 (‘Behold, your king is coming to you . . . humble and mounted on a donkey’). The recurring opening line is possibly an allusion to Psalm 45:4 (‘in thy majesty ride prosperously’).

“Some hymnological commentators connect this hymn with the idea of the great reversal in Philippians 2:5-12, where we find the Christ who humbled himself in a crucified death, later to be exalted, name above all names, to which every knee will bow. As Canadian hymn scholar Stanley Osborne observed, this hymn’s poetic strength is in its exploration of that duality:

'Objective, robust, confident, and stirring, it possesses that peculiar combination of tragedy and victory which draws the singer into the very centre of the drama. It is this which gives the hymn its power and its challenge.'

In this arrangement for SATB voices and organ, Milman’s text is set to the 15th-century English ballad, “Deo Gratias” (aka The Agincourt Carol), with the refrain Ride on in majesty!” following each verse.

Composed by English Traditional Melody. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Sacred,Traditional. 22 pages. Con Spirito Music #857095. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1264232).

All Things Bright and Beautiful is a beloved hymn written by Cecil Frances Alexander (1818-1895), an Anglo-Irish poet known for her hymns There is a Green Hill Far Away and Once in Royal David's City as well as her metrical paraphrase of St. Patrick's Breastplate (a prayer attributed to Patrick, patron saint of Ireland), known by its opening words, I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity.

An exposition of the clause of the Apostles' Creed that describes God as maker of heaven and earth, All Things Bright and Beautiful was published in Alexander's Hymns for Little Children in 1848. It was later included in The English Hymnal (1906) with a tune composed by W.H. Monk in 1887.

All Things Bright and Beautiful is also frequently sung to the hymn tune ROYAL OAK, adapted from a 17th-century English folk tune, The Twenty-Ninth of May and published in the collection of English country dances, The Dancing Master, in 1686. This tune was first associated with Alexander's poem in a 1916 arrangement published by English composer Martin Shaw (1875-1978) and earned wide popularity after its inclusion in the 1925 English hymnal, Songs of Praise

This accompaniment to unison voices for organ and brass quintet is based on the ROYAL OAK tune.

Includes full score, parts for organ, Bb trumpets 1-2, F horn, trombone, tuba, and reproducible bulletin insert.

Composed by Jakob Hintze. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Easter,Sacred. 24 pages. Con Spirito Music #850950. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1257721).

An ideal hymn selection for Easter Sunday, Eastertide, or at any celebration of the eucharist, At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing is one of many hymns translated from Latin by Robert Campbell (1814-1868), a Scottish advocate (lawyer) and Roman Catholic layperson. First published in 1850, At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing was one of four of Campbell's hymn texts to be included in Hymns Ancient & Modern (1861), the first standardized and popular hymnal of the Anglican Church.

The tune accompanying the text, known as SALZBURG, is attributed to the German composer Jakob Hintze (1622-1702). Its harmonization has long been attributed to J.S. Bach and numbered among his works as BWV 262. However, the New Edition of the Complete Works of Bach, published by Barenreiter, no longer recognizes this, and the harmonization matches that of Johann Pachelbel's Alle Menschen müssen sterben — Choral mit 8 Partiten (Chorale with 8 Variations) of 1683.

Regardless of the authorship of text or tune, At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing is a richly theological, grand hymn that references God's saving works in both the Old Testament and the New, culminating in Christ's victorious resurrection and his triumph over sin and death, and celebrates his feeding of the faithful gathered for the eucharistic feast with his Body and Blood.

This arrangement for organ and brass quintet begins with alternating fanfares for organ and brass, followed by:

Verse 1: organ accompaniment
Verse 2: brass accompaniment
Verse 3: organ accompaniment with solo trumpet punctuations
Interlude
Verse 4: organ and brass accompaniment in alternate harmonization
Coda recapitulating the introductory fanfares

Includes full score, parts for organ, Bb tpt. 1, Bb tpt. 2, F horn, tbn, tuba, and reproducible bulletin insert for voices

Composed by John Francis Wade. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Christmas,Sacred. 25 pages. Con Spirito Music #861244. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1268716).

Perhaps the most often-sung processional or recessional hymn at Christmas services, O Come, All Ye Faithful is generally attributed to John Francis Wade (1711-1786), an English Catholic hymn-writer who authored both its Latin text and its tune, known as ADESTE FIDELES from the opening words of the text.

Although more than two dozen English translations of Wade's text (c. 1743) by various writers exist, the 1841 translation by English Catholic priest Frederick Oakeley (1802-1880) is the most commonly used.

In addition to the four verses-with-refrain in Wade's text and Oakeley's translation, other hymn-writers penned additional stanzas, and it is not uncommon to hear six or seven sung today. This accompaniment for organ, brass quintet, and timpani is based on the four original stanzas as translated by Oakeley, with all but the final verse employing the standard harmonization from The English Hymnal (1906). For performances of more than four verses, it is suggested that the organ-only accompaniment (Verse 1) be repeated/inserted at the discretion of the organist or music director.

Includes full score, parts for organ, Bb tpt. 1, Bb tpt. 2, F horn, tbn, tuba, timpani, and reproducible bulletin insert for voices.

Composed by Felix Mendelssohn / W.H. Cummings. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christmas,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. 23 pages. Con Spirito Music #864944. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1272749).

One of the “Great Four” Anglican hymns of the 19th century, Charles Wesley’s (1707-1788) “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” first appeared in the 1739 collection, Hymns and Sacred Poems, by Wesley and his brother John (1703-1791) under the title “Hymn for Christmas-Day.”

Based on a verse from the Gospel of Luke (“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” — 2:14), the hymn tells of an angelic host singing praises from Heaven above to Christ — the God incarnate, Savior and Redeemer of the world.

George Whitefield, a fellow Anglican cleric and founder with the Wesley brothers of the evangelical movement known as Methodism, adapted the hymn and published it in his 1754 Collection of Hymns for Social Worship. Additional revisions were made by other editors, including the repetition of the opening lines, “Hark! the herald angels sing / glory to the new-born king” at the end of each stanza, as it is commonly sung today.

Wesley envisioned his hymn being sung to the same tune as his “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” (published as “Hymn for Easter-Day” in Hymns and Sacred Poems). However, the tune MENDELSSOHN, an adaptation by English musician William H. Cummings (1831-1915) of music from Felix Mendelssohn’s 1840 secular cantata, Festgesang, is overwhelmingly associated with Wesley’s text today. This arrangement proceeds as follows:

•  Introduction: brass, organ, timpani
•  Verse 1: organ
•  Verse 2: brass, timpani
•  Interlude
•  Verse 3: organ, brass, timpani, with alternate harmonization

Includes full score, parts for Organ, Bb Trumpets 1-2, F Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Timpani, and reproducible bulletin insert for voices.

Composed by B.F. White. Arranged by Todd Marchand. 19th Century,Christian,Folk,Sacred. Octavo. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #6733809. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726149).

“God is Love: Let Heav’n Adore Him” pairs a text by the Welsh Anglican bishop Timothy Rees (1874-1939) with the 19th-century American hymn tune BEACH SPRING, attributed to Benjamin Franklin White (1800-1979), compiler and editor of the influential Sacred Harp hymnal.

Quick to rehearse, yet satisfying to perform and moving in its effect on listeners, this lovely anthem expresses assurance in God’s boundless love, from His creation of the world (v. 1) to His love for “ev’ry child of ev’ry race” (v. 2) to His ultimate triumph over sin and death. Verses 1 and 2 are assigned to unison women’s and unison men’s voices, respectively. Then, following a modulation upward, the concluding verse 3 is sung by all voices in unison, with 4-part harmony at the peak of the verse before drawing to a peaceful, unison close.
