Key: C major.Three Chorales (In Diminishing Length)--or Three Chorales for short--is the result of a composing experiment combining a scribbled condensed score in concert C and D major with Noteflight. Typically, I'll write evolving chord progressions and only play them later, seeing what will result from a purely theoretical set of movements. This time, I spot-checked the handwritten score as I went, making adjustments to it and the digital score. The results are still delightfully weird and borderline atonal, but Three Chorales came out well overall (although I'd tweak some of the dynamics for the screeching clarinet part if I ever revisit it). The first chorale is six measures in the original manuscript (seven here to allow the bass clarinet to move to the tonic for a more satisfying chord); the second chorale is five measures; and the third chorale is four measures. Reducing the length of measures added an additional fun challenge in trying to make a musical point in a very short space. I don't know if I succeeded, but I had fun trying!

D'Amore Si Muore is an excellent way to practice words, expression and phrasing. In this case variations on “love you ” all the way through.Relates brilliantly to Melodious Studies number 11, 13, 14 and also 8.I am a big fan of playing slowly and having absolute control of everything I do down to the last detail and a melody like this is a great tool to practice this. I don’t believe one can play fast before control over slow playing and expression is mastered.Our most natural instrument is our voice . Singing and playing this melody is a terrific way to bridge the gap between the metal flute and one’s voice. The outcome is an amazing resonance ,musical quality in the tone and natural phrasing.Moyse was asked what he thought the French School of flute playing was and he answered” being able to sound like other instruments”. We have to start with the first port of call – our voice.The words you can use for phrasing are ” love you , love you , love you , love you, love you so.” “I really love you so much” ” I really love you so” etc all the way through . You can make up your own.It is worth singing and playing this through. By that I mean play 2 notes, sing 2 and play 2 all the way through without interrupting the musical flow, resonance and tone quality. Great for practising going between singing and playing quickly.Love was a favourite word of Moyse and Wibb. I see why!. It innately has so much expression, warmth, opens up the mouth and in Moyse’s words “scoops the last spoonful of mayonnaise from the jar. ” You definitely can’t say it with “an ugly nasal voice”- Moyse quote.The tone has to have life and expression. I hear so often soft playing as the player blowing softly but that gives such a dull lifeless outcome.

This is still a work in progress, the middle section is going to be difficult, if not impossible on guitar. Some may see this as more of an homage to Chopin rather than a historically accurate version. That being said, both this arrangement and the original are incredible pieces of music, and it may be my favorite piece of all time, and I think jaws would drop if the average person hears a guitarist effortlessly playing Chopin as if it was meant for guitar. 1. Arranged for guitar. 2. Guitar Tablature added. 3. Key changed 4. Notes removed and and inverted chords changed to be idiomatic for guitar.5. Slurs added. 6. Chord nomenclature added. 7. Piano pedal and phrase markings are a bit unnecessary for a guitarist so they are not included. Slurs and ties are more important for a guitarist, so I don't want a ton of swoops symbols obscuring slurs and ties. As with the other Chopin arrangement I made, I want super romantic music while making sure it isn't super difficult to play. If I wanted a super hard version, I would just find the public domain version and read treble and bass clef in a difficult key for free. There could also be a lot more mantaining of historical accuracy if this was arranged for a 7 or 8 string guitar. Having a low E and Eb would really changed the trajectory of the arrangement. Sure a guitar can play an Eb chord, but it always sounds too high pitched, when really the original has a low powerful bass note as the music inflects a different key. So that's why I took some liberty with the bass notes for guitar. It's incredibly grimy sounding even though A minor isn't typically seen as a dark and low key.Tips:1. A Bb chord in the key of a minor is an example of a Neopolitan chord, named after a city in Italy. This is one main essence of Chopin, and constantly using them allows him to really toy around with the key and suspense. To Do:1. Measure 10 is glitched out. Sorry. It is correct in a way but it is strangely spaced. It is a challenge because at times it looks like measures have the incorrect amount of beats, but I think Chopin's freedom of rhythm is the reason why, and bizarre triplets and quintuplets are being forced into the measure. 2. For me, it works very well. Elton himself was well versed in honky tonk, pub piano styles and the chord progression is very accepting of this treatment. If some of the voicings ie 10ths are too large for your left hand simply play single bass notes or octaves instead, or feel free to roll the tenths. Please note this is a piano solo and I haven't notated any of the other instruments in my YouTube arrangement. I do, however, write my arrangements for solo piano first and they sound perfect as such. I don't include fingering, phrasing or dynamic marking as no two piano teachers will agree upon so I leave this trustingly to the individual performer. I do include chord symbols which I find more helpful in learning repertoire.Have fun playing this. I did. I'm a big Elton John fan and this is one of my favourite numbers of his and it was a pleasure to notate it.

The InspirationIn 2023 I decided to review a piece I had composed in 1990 to honor a friend I was singing with in a choral group at that time; Charles Munion. He never heard the piece as I felt the classical contemporary style would be a bit much for his ears! Beyond that I don't have allot of recollection as to the inspiration or what my thoughts were at the time of the composition. In regards to the revision, I added additional music to the third movement in order to balance out the movements and reworked some of the choral voicing.The MusicWritten in a contemporary classical style it follows the classic structure of 3 movements: First movement – brisk, loud forceful in nature Second movement – slow and lyrical Third movement – light and quick but with a forceful ending While in a contemporary style, at heart it maintains tonal centers throughout. While there is a few brief moments where I can here a little Bartok, as a whole I would say this piece is unique in regards to its style.

This concert was filmed by Reinhard Hölker, who also held a scholarship at the Künstlerhäuser Worpswede.   The Argentine first performance was given by Cecilia Strack on 17th December 2003 at the Conservatorio de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, during a monographic concert (Compositions for Piano by Juan María Solare) organised by the Professors Silvia Dabul and Manuel Massone.   The title is a pan in Spanish: Blues in E minor / Blues in me.   At some moment I had a dream related with this piece. I cannot recall exactly when or where, but it must have been during 2003; any case not later. Possibly I've written it down somewhere, I will find it. Reconstructed by memory: It was an open-air concert, maybe in Worpswede. The audience sits down in banks around tables, eating; it is a kind of party. A music sounds that comes familiar to me. I recognized the Blues en mí. A young lady is performing it, whom I don't absolutely know. I ask myself: How could this lady get the score? She have possibly found it on the internet. And actually it was this dream that ended up convincing me to put some of my scores in Internet, beginning with the Blues en mí. According to my registers, I sent the sheet music to Mariano Rocca (webmaster of compositores e intérpretes, www.ciweb.com.ar) on 2nd November 2003 (ergo, this dream must have occurred before).   Juan María Solare Worpswede, 15th February 2007 (four days after the dedicatee's death)

As usual the left hand can be simplified by playing any 10ths as single notes or octaves. Bass notes can often be played an octave higher to lessen the distance stretched. I don't notate dynamics, pedal or fingering as I prefer to leave such issues to the discretion of the individual pianist. Teachers, in any event, can never agree on these things. Also please be aware this is a piano solo and doesn't include notation for the other instruments in my YouTube video. My goal is to create something that sounds beautiful as a standalone piece of music, but most importantly, that it actually makes pianistic sense. Sometimes I even hide exercises in the arrangements that I want a student to work on. All of my arrangements are usually made for a specific student, so the results will always vary.This arrangement was made for a late beginner student, Primary III, working on Level 1-2 of the Alfred's Masterwork Classics series. He loves his video games! As with many arrangements, I often simplify rhythms so that the melodies are more understandable to students. Then they completely ignore my simplified rhythm and play what they know by ear. I don't know why I continue underestimating them! So, I have kept a more complicated rhythm for this arrangement. The left hand is mostly blocked fifths with a few deviations for contrast. I recommend some use of pedal, but not necessary. When the main tune returns, left hand plays fifths in unison with melody--some exceptions. This keeps things very easy and even faster to learn.Pedal and fingering suggestions are included.

This tune was written in 1933 by Jerome Kern with words by Otto Harbach for the musical 'Robera'. It has been recorded by so many great artists but perhaps most famously by 'The Platters'. I have arranged it for piano in the key of F which and then modulated into Ab second time round. It has further key changes within the tune during the bridge. I have reharmonised it significantly to give it a jazz feel. I have given it a semi-quaver/sixteenth note feel rather than a swing beat which I felt suited it as a ballad.Please note it is a piano solo and doesn't include the bass line that is on my YouTube recording. I write all my arrangements as piano solos first so it sounds perfect as such. I don't include pedal markings, fingerings or dynamics and prefer to leave this to the discretion of the individual pianist as you will get no two piano teachers to agree on these issues.It's a wonderful tune and I hope you have as much fun playing my arrangement as I had writing it.

I take it through the two keys of Bb major and Cb major. Cb major has 7 flats but is not so hard as you might think as it's easy to remember to flatten every note instead of having to remember which notes to flatten! I interweave arpeggios between the melody notes and it therefore has a very full sound to it. It is sort of a Stride waltz in that the bass is usually, with some variations, followed by two chords on each beat.I don't notate fingering, pedals or dynamics as I leave the interpretation up to the individual pianist and in any event no two piano teachers ever agree on these things.Please note this is a piano solo and I doesn't include notation for the other instruments on my YouTube upload, strings, drums, bass guitar. This is one of my favourite Elton John tunes. I'm also a big fan of the music of Scott Joplin and thought it would be interesting to play Elton John's 'Daniel' in a ragtime style. I have actually used techniques that were post Joplin but it still has a strong ragtime feel and is a lot of fun to play.I have taken it through the keys of C major and Db major. There are a number of tenths in the left hand. These may be difficult for those with smaller hands but they can be rolled or replaced with a single root note or octave.I don't include dynamics, fingering or pedal markings and prefer to leave these to the discretion of the individual pianist as no two piano teachers can agree on this. I like to give the notes to the reader as simply as possible and another shortcut I often use is to write for example quavers/eight notes even when the notes should be longer. This makes it easier to read than so many voicings, rests and different note durations. The player can instinctively tell which notes should be held longer. You should therefore find my music very accessible.I hope you have as much fun learning and playing this tune as I had arranging it!
