This sheet music collection of 20 folk songs is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. For each song, there is a combined score with both parts on a grand staff plus a separate 1-staff score for each individual part. A note and chord reference chart is also provided for each song.The songs in this digital book are ordered by difficulty with the easiest songs presented first. The songs progressively incorporate more challenging rhythms, some requiring rapid chord changes. Many of the songs include two verses. The first verse is “easy� with fewer notes. The second verse is “intermediate� and expands the melody by adding more notes (sometimes including harmony notes). If you want to learn (practice) only the “easy� verse, an optional ending is provided or it can be skipped to perform the two verses together. This set of scores uses black and white noteheads and is best suited for musicians already familiar with reading standard music notation. For beginning musicians, this same set of scores is available (sold separately) with color coded noteheads. Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are easier to see (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter and eighth rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. Lyrics and chord names are provided as well to aid in the learning and teaching of this song. The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. Instrument assignment suggestions are provided for each song. It was sung in the movie Love Me Tonight (1932) by Jeanette MacDonald.  Popular recordings in 1933 were by Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra (vocal by Jack Fulton), Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians, and Greta Keller. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. Most of the available arrangements of this classic tune are in 3/4 time, but the Ella Fitzgerald version is in 4/4 time, so John and I decided to create this version in 4/4 time. We also added what we think are some pretty cool left-hand fills that we hope you will like! It's a fun song and not too hard to play!

As an adult I occasionally try to remember and or capture child-like experiences-maybe not so much the actual event, but the emotive atmosphere left from impressions long ago embedded in the psyche.Each movement of this work is based on spontaneous and uncalculated musical imagery of dreams and childhood reflections. I have deliberately avoided the professional composer’s bag of developmental tricks and worked for a more free flow of simple melodic ideas: they go wherever they want.Movement IInspired by the feelings I had growing up on Merritt Island Florida with my older sister Barbara. This music was a gift to her on the occasion of her 2004 marriage in Flemington New Jersey. It was originally scored for a brass quartet with which I performed. I have written three other brass quintets, and when I started thinking about this one (my fourth) this seemed like a logical choice for a first movement.Movement IIBased on a tune that came to me in a dream. It is dedicated to my wife Lois (we also married in 2004) and has a formal title of Wake Up To A Melody. I originally scored it for jazz band-more specifically for the excellent Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra, and it has recently been recorded by that group. I like the simplicity of this melody, and felt it would make a natural second movement for this brass quintet.Movement IIIThe third and most difficult movement is Tangoragrondo. It is literally a rondo with a turn-of-the century (19th-20th) ragtime melody/gallop occupying the A theme followed by a Tango (inspired by trips to Santiago Chile) for the B theme. The return to the rag (A theme) is then followed by a fantasy development (C area) with a return to to the rag (A theme) followed by a coda that recalls material from the first movement. The form is quite simple- ABACA-Coda.The material was originally developed as a movement for my double concerto Letting Midnight Out On Bail written for the Duehlmeier-Gritton piano duo and orchestra. It was recorded by the Warsaw Philharmonic and has been released on CD. A second version for two pianos has also been recorded and released by the Duehlmeier-Gritton piano duo. This orchestration for brass quintet will be the final resting place for this chaotic rondo.

This chart features alto, tenor, and bass solos throughout the chart as well as acapella sax and brass sections as well. Rooftop accents are meant to be kept fat and unclipped. It is important to keep musical momentum in acapella sections, as to keep the time with a lack of rhythm section. This is a fun one for the whole band! I hope you enjoy!

Carolan’s music does not sit comfortably in any one particular musical tradition. He was the product of a long line of Irish harpers dating from medieval times or before. He was also aware of Irish folk music, with many of his tunes having a ‘trad’ quality, particularly in his jig-like compositions. Finally, Carolan was influenced by the music of Italian Baroque composers, whose music he would have heard played at the great houses he visited. Carolan’s Draught is an example of the latter.Carolan’s Draught is a lively tune equally at home in folk concerts and sessions, early music performances, schools, weddings and I have also used it as a learning piece with my mandolin and mandola students.I have composed a counterpoint and a bass part. My arrangement has the tune played three times through: first, the basic melody is played on its own; second, with the counterpoint; third, with the bass part added. This arrangement is completely flexible. The parts can be played on almost any instrument and in different octaves. Have fun with it!

This great work has never been arranged for such a small group before but Mr. Jostlein explains it this way:This arrangement of the Brahms Symphony No. 4 , began with my arranging the third movement of Symphony No. 3, completed in 1996 as a gift to my wife, Tricia, also a horn player. I decided to arrange the other movements, with Gordon Cherry's helpful encouragement. Now I have completed Symphony No. 3, also for two horns.While a reduction of such a large orchestral work for a pair of horns may seem trivial or silly, it works beautifully, revealing Brahms' masterful harmonic, melodic, contrapuntal, and tone-color artistry. It is hoped that horn players use this arrangement as a means of discovering these great qualities of Brahms, rather than as a performance piece. DIES PACIS is dedicated to the memory of Gordon Francis Blaney, Jr. He was a multi-instrumentalist and Berklee alum. We met through a variety of Facebook groups devoted to music composition and orchestration. He had mental health issues, autism, and epilepsy. Gordon died tragically in a car accident in 2020, at the age of 37. Gordon and I would talk about music, mental health, and spirituality on a regular basis. One of my spiritual views is that death is a form of relief from pain, similar to serenity or peace. (In Latin, PACIS.) Gordon's life was cut short, as evidenced by the unresolved music over notes G, F, and B (Gordon's initials).

It is best suited to players of an advanced-intermediate level and higher, though lower-intermediate players could make progress on it at slower tempos. The arrangement features syncopated melodic rhythms on top of straight basslines, as well as Travis-picking passages, meaning some familiarity with contemporary fingerpicking styles is beneficial. Recommended for performance on a steel-string or nylon-string acoustic guitar.As far as I am aware this is the first comprehensive fingerstyle arrangement of â??bettyâ?? to be published, with a melodic line and structure authentic to the original song. Only the tempo has been slowed slightly, making some of the more challenging manoeuvres easier to perform and allowing for a more flowing sound on the guitar. Parts of the melody are adapted from subtle electric guitar phrases heard towards the ends of sections in the original recording. Rehearsal marks are used for song sections, while lyrics have been omitted for the sake of readability.

'3 in a Row' uses just the notes C D and E and has a simple rhythmic pattern or 1 2 3 rest. I've found this to be one of the easiest rhythms for students to get. 'Going up' utitlises the C hand position (just right hand) and has a bit of reading in patterns. The teacher part is a little jazzy. 'Goldfish' is 2 hands and includes bass clef A B and C with a nice accompaniment part. Have fun!
