Guitar,Medium-Low Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1205814 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Simon James. Chamber,Classical,Opera. 11 pages. DML #803997. Published by DML (A0.1205814). This charming serenade is taken from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni. Although originally a type of madrigal by the 18th century the term Canzonetta came to mean a song for voice and accompaniment, usually in a light secular style. The Canzonetta appears at the beginning of Act 2 of Don Giovanni. Wanting to seduce Donna Elvira's maid, and believing that she will trust him better if he appears in lower-class clothes, Don Giovanni orders Leporello to exchange cloak and hat with him. Leporello, posing as Don Giovanni, leads Donna Elvira away to keep her occupied while Don Giovanni serenades her maid with his mandolin - Deh, vieni alla finestra – Ah, come to the window. The original instrumentation was for mandolin and pizzicato strings and so transfers to two guitars very well. I have dropped the key from D to C as otherwise the baritone part is rather high and the key change makes it more comfortable. The guitar parts are not difficult but do need a really good sense of ensemble. I have altered the chord voicings occasionally to better suit the guitar and sometimes changed octave for guitar 1 which is essentially the mandolin part.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.873024 Composed by Sally Whitwell. Contemporary. Octavo. 10 pages. Sally Whitwell #3867181. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.873024). Composer’s Note - EchoI greatly enjoy working in community music. Really, I’m happy to work with musicians of any age or level of experience. Anyone. I’m just as happy to play in New York with Philip Glass as I am to play Mexican Woodpecker with a room full of eight year-olds (if you don’t know Mexican Woodpecker, that’s what the internet is for!). What really counts is commitment and enthusiasm. I worked for a while with a community choir here in Sydney, Polyphony. They have enthusiasm in buckets which, as a composer, I find very inspirational. I wrote this piece for them. It’s a bittersweet evocation to the memory of someone who has departed this world-- Sally Whitwell

Double Bass,String Bass Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869156 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Individual part. 44 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #31067. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869156). I received an email from Joel Quarrington in 2011 with a request to buy a score and a set of parts to Hylidae … The Tree Frogs (1991) for violin, double bass and piano. He said he would like to perform the work at the next International Society of Bassists convention in Rochester, New York.  I told him That is great.  But it’s such an old work.  Why don’t I write something new for you?   He said, How much would a commission cost?  I said, Let me write the piece first and if you like it, we can talk about a fee then. I began work on Toccata for Double Bass and Piano in late August and completed it on October 15.  I sent Joel the music as a PDF and MIDI file via email.  He wrote back, The piece looks really terrific and I have enjoyed listening to it as well, thanks for the midi file.  I couldn’t be happier! Toccata is in three movements, fast-slow-fast, with internal ABA ternary forms in the first and last movements - also fast-slow-fast. Moderato … Trio … A tempo. Adagio. Allegro … Trio … Reprise! The first movement begins with a driving dotted-note motif in the double bass accompanied by an insistent sixteenth-note bass-line in the piano left hand and a soaring quarter-note melody in the piano right hand.  A Trio follows which features a lyric melody in the double bass … molto cantabile!   The double bass returns this time stealing the sixteenth-note bass-line motif from the piano left hand.  The double bass pushes the music forward relentlessly and ferociously … holding no prisoners!  To add counterpoint to this madness, the piano comes back with the quarter-note melody but in octaves this time.  The left hand joins the melee occasionally to push the music forward until it reaches its climax at the conclusion. The second movement, Adagio, is a slow waltz.  The mournful tune is delivered by the double bass at first, then it’s passed on to the piano, and it goes back and forth between the two.  The third movement is a 6/8 romp, very syncopated and jazzy.  The music goes back and forth between the double bass and piano, not unlike when the musicians in a jazz combo trade four’s among each other.  An adagio Trio follows.  The tune is in the double bass: long descending lines over a languid piano accompaniment.  To complete the ABA format, the music from the beginning of this movement returns as a reprise. ENJOY!!! Commissioned by Joel Quarrington for a premiere performance at the 2013 International Society of Bassists Convention at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.835450 Composed by Stuart Brown. Concert,Contemporary. Score. 12 pages. Stuart Brown Music #2859967. Published by Stuart Brown Music (A0.835450). This is not your typical nocturne. This is night as it really is for many people: a time of restlessness, of anxiety, in which you lie awake or even feel the need to get out of the house for a while. This music is for all of those nights when you wonder what on earth is happening to the world around you, when you feel troubled by the contradictions between you and the world, when you dread the morning news of the results of an election or referendum; when you just want to shout at the world, I'm out of here ... imagine a night in which you need to step outside to gather your thoughts. You feel the chill of the night air as you stand gazing up at the sky. As clouds move above, you turn over in your mind the things that are troubling you. Gradually you begin to see more clearly the difference between the things you cannot change and those that you can; and with that realisation comes serenity and finally you are able to sleep. The composer, who is a passionate believer in unity rather than division, wrote this music three days after Britain's 2016 referendum on its continued membership of the European Union, reflecting his feelings about the outcome. This is, therefore, as deeply personal a piece of music as you'll get. Include it in a program and it will help to put the rest of the program into perspective. The music itself demonstrates that nonatonic and octatonic modes of limited transposition can be used to create melodies and harmonic progressions that combine tension with great beauty. At notated tempi the work lasts just under ten minutes. It is of advanced intermediate difficulty, the main challenges for the player being the complex modality and the shifting rhythms. The sound file provided here is the composer's own live performance, recorded on Saturday, September 10th, 2016. It is possibly appropriate for high school performance: students who are interested are welcome to get in touch with the composer via www.facebook.com/StuartBrownComposer/

Trumpet Duet Trumpet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1085894 Composed by Scottish Traditional. Arranged by Liza Zumbrunnen. Celtic,Classical,Folk,Irish,Multicultural,Traditional,World. Score. 4 pages. Liza Zumbrunnen #690069. Published by Liza Zumbrunnen (A0.1085894). The Gypsy Laddie, aka The Raggle Taggle Gypsy (Roud 1, Child 200), is a traditional folk song that originated as a Scottish border ballad. It is about a rich lady who runs off to join the gypsy laddie. When the player gets to the cantabile solo, they should really milk it. The words here sing, I winna come wi you, my honey an' my hert, I winna come wi you, my dearie O, Till I drink the breest that I hae brown, An' that's in the Water o Eerie O. This trumpet duet can be played by any like instruments.

Solo Guitar - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1237543 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Richard Hirsch. Baroque,Christian,Multicultural,Spiritual,World. Individual part. 11 pages. Richard Hirsch #833059. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1237543). I offer an arrangement of Bach’s all-time favourite Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring in an African inspired rendering for solo classical or acoustic guitar. The arrangement uses lots of natural harmonics in an attempt to mimic the African kalimba style of music. The arrangement goes in 4/4 time in polyrhythm with a second tier of accents at 2, 2&, and 4 with a slight swing. The polyrhythm makes the final chord sound like an upbeat! The low bases are notated as quarter notes and should be played so that they do not ring out. They are not muted (staccato), except where notated, but they should be kept short to give the piece a bouncy character. The arrangement contains the main melody and chorus sections of the original in G major, although I have changed the original in a number of ways. The first melody and chorus section in G major is prefaced by several bars of natural harmonics and is repeated only after the melody and chorus section in the key of A minor. Natural harmonics appear in many places in the piece interwoven with Bach’s original melody and chorus. I think the natural harmonics give the piece a really glorious ring. The present arrangement incorporates many sections of a sister arrangement of the piece that I published recently that follows the original more closely and works as an introduction to the music with extensive left and right hand fingerings and tablature for intermediate students of guitar. This arrangement, considering the many natural harmonics, staccatos, tempo, and swing, is perhaps better suited for advanced intermediate students of classical or acoustic guitar. With that in mind, I therefore refrain from any extensive left and right hand fingerings for the present arrangement. The piece is a real joy to play and listen to! The tempo for the present arrangement has been set to 140 bpm. I think the pace gives a real swing to the music. The piece may however be played at a faster tempo, e.g. Presto, or somewhere in between. With this great music you can hardly go wrong. The title I have chosen for the arrangement aims to be a play on words as in many English speaking parts of the world the name Bach often rhymes with the word ‘back’ as in a return to some place or time. ‘Bach to Africa’ is then an allusion to humanity’s primordial roots in Africa. Rejoice!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1177607 Composed by Keaton Manwaring. A Cappella. Octavo. 6 pages. Keaton Manwaring #777622. Published by Keaton Manwaring (A0.1177607). Hope is such a powerful thing that can push us through the toughest of times. In this poem, Emily Dickinson calls hope a feathered thing. It perches in the soul and sings without stoping. The singing is at the loudest when things are at their worst. Although hope is the central theme to the poem, the harsh conditions that are described in the poem was the driving force while writing the music. Creating a sound for the chillest day and the storm that could not abash the little bird was what really inspired me to write this piece. Something that stood out for me, was the use of dashes that breaks up the poem. I used rests to create these breaks. These rests are very deliberate to show these pauses of contemplation, almost struggling for the right words to describe a complex subject such as hope. At first the rests felt like a hindrance, where it felt natural for the music to flow, but now I cannot imagine the piece without it.

Brass Ensemble Horn - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767322 Composed by Mike Lyons. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 35 pages. Lyons Music Services #3488955. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767322). Original horn quartet inspired by a conversation about writing for horns. There are three movements. The first movement is called Canon. It consists of a simple theme that is presented in imitation by each of the four 'voices' first at 2 bar intervals then, in inversion at four bar intervals and then in the original form at one bar intervals. There is a linking fanfare-like passage before the final statement of the original motif with fanfare-like adaptations. The second movement is called Lullaby. The elegant, drifting melody is passed around the four players with a largely chordal accompaniment pattern that needs to be played sotto voce at all times. The tempo is marked Largo, but it is still one-in-a-bar.The third movement is called Hullabaloo-haloo-haloo. While it is based on a 6/8 cantering rhythm, there is a lot of variation in both the accompaniment and the melody. Again, all the lines have a lot of interest, nobody has to play simple um-chucks, and there's even a solo for the 4th horn at the end.I have rearranged the parts as 1/3/2/4 on the advice of a horn player friend of mine. Enjoy. This is a really enjoyable and exciting new addition to the horn quartet repertoire.

Published by Kim Kirkman (A0.903534). Stewball was a racehorse - really wonderful folk song This arrangement has harmony, key change and a canonic section. Works really well Lyrics: Oh Stewball was a racehorse, and I wish he were mine. He never drank water, he always drank wine. His bridle was silver, his main it was gold. And the worth of his saddle has never been told. Oh the fairgrounds were crowded, and Stewball was there But the betting was heavy on the bay and the mare. And a-way up yonder, ahead of them all, Came a-prancin' and a-dancin' my noble Stewball. I bet on the grey mare, I bet on the bay If I'd have bet on ol' Stewball, I'd be a free man today. Oh the hoot owl, she hollers, and the turtle dove moans. I'm a poor boy in trouble, I'm a long way from home. Oh Stewball was a racehorse, and I wish he were mine. Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1306230 Composed by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller. Arranged by Dean Gilbert. Christmas,Religious. Score. 5 pages. Dean Gilbert #895622. Published by Dean Gilbert (A0.1306230). You don't really hear this song until Christmas; however, with the latest troubles in the Middle East this song is the perfect song to learn and play at any time during the year.  I arranged it thinking about the continued conflict in Ukraine, the new conflict in the Middle East and the continuing gun violence in our own country. The song builds to the 3rd section where you can hear the anger come out because we cannot just get along. This section comes to a quick end and gives into a very calm end. This ending represent a reflection of what could be if we all did our part. Enjoy!!!!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.873041 Composed by Sally Whitwell. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contemporary. Octavo. 10 pages. Sally Whitwell #4765201. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.873041). My family were early adopters on Compact Disc technology. Whilst my school peers in the late 80s and early 90s were collecting tapes for their VHS video recorders, my family were collecting hi-fidelity CD recordings of classical masterworks. Three of these CDs stick in my mind; a period instrument performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons performed by Trevor Pinnock and The English Concert; a recording of the 1812 overture which boasted Real Cannons (and also warned listeners against setting the volume too high because it might damage the equipment!); and A feather on the breath of God, an album of works by Hildegard performed by Gothic Voices with soloist Emma Kirkby. Thus began my life long love affair with the life and works of Hildegard. I have been performing this particular Hildegard chant O Virtus Sapientiae in solo piano recitals since around 2014. Basically, I have been freely improvising on it, so it’s different each time. Some ideas formed during those improvisations which have really stuck in my brain. I’ve transferred some of these into this a cappella work.  In una via, quae habet vitam  (In one path, which gives life) O Strength of Wisdom Who circling circled, enclosing all Growing from the earth Soaring in the heights One life-giving path Of omnipresent light Laus tibi sit, sicut te decet O Sapientiae  (Praise to you, as is fitting,  O Wisdom)
