This wistfully melancholy piano solo is inspired by Penelope from Homer's Odyssey.  Penelope is the portrait of desperate longing, as she waits for her husband Odysseus to return for twenty years.  This piece is the perfect musical companion for those times you long for the return of a loved one.This piece is challenging with a portion in E-flat minor (six flats), many heavy chords, and arpeggios (I am still brushing it up myself!).  I would say, however, that if one can handle Debussy's Claire de Lune, he can handle this piece.  I suggest using the sustain pedal to your advantage so as to be able to take different portions of the arpeggios with different hands.  Despite the rhythmic and technical challenges, this entire piece ought to be expressive from start to finish.  A rather cathartic piece in nature, this is the piece to let your emotions guide.Hopefully, there will be a YouTube channel with recordings of this piece and all my future pieces.  Stay tuned for more information!  For any comments, questions, and other constructive feedback, contact me at amhpatterson.music@gmail.com.

Tapping your feet to the rhythm is simply not acceptable. But I’ve always thought that classical music could be danceable - something that DJs can play at a club and you can move your body to.≪Tree dance≫, as the title suggests, is a musical piece featuring marimba and piano expressing the way trees dance in the wind. The music is almost like the classical version of craftwork, combining four-on-the-floor beats of techno music with the sharp sounds of modern music and organic poetry.I hope that the colorful musical notes on the score will be given life to and grow in this concert hall, creating a feast of dancing trees. These studies are specifically designed for non-professional orchestras, although any orchestra will improve by playing some of these pieces during rehearsals. It is always necessary to pay attention to intonation and many other aspects of orchestral performance.In addition, these studies are also useful for orchestral conducting students. For example, it is essential to know how to conduct a simultaneous attack of a chord that does not begin on the first beat, but a eighth note after the third beat.I began writing these studies around 2013, when I took over the direction of the Bremer Orchestergemeinschaft and noticed the complete absence of repertoire of this kind. As a pianist, I am accustomed to studies by Carl Czerny or playing scales. Each individual instrumentalist knows studies of technique for their instrument. However, there are no, or at least I am not aware of, similar studies for orchestral performance technique and the specific difficulties of ensemble playing that it requires. The cycle Orchestraining aims to fill this gap.The particular study Orchestraining Nr. 01 focuses on the subject of simultaneous attacks, presenting a series of staccato chords in different parts of the bar. Idelssohn's research into the music cultures of the different Jewish communities of Jerusalem laid the foundation for the growth of a unique melding of east and west that is the Israeli musical style. ·        Hevenu Shalom Aleichem (We brought you peace) was first published in 1910 by the musicologist Franz Haverel, as a Turkish folk melody Sala'am Aleikum. It came to Palestine in the same year, as an advertisement for Turkish cigarettes; the tune was printed on the package. ·        Hayu Leilot (There were nights) was written by Mordecai Zeira in 1938 to a poem by Yaakov Orland. Though this song is little known outside of Israel today, it is one of my favorites, and I hope will become one of yours as well. You are also welcome to try some of my other arrangements. Many listeners will be unfamiliar with the almost recitative-style opening that follows the four-measure intro. So when the well-known tune is finally heard at measure 23, some at least will be pleasantly surprised. But don’t decorate the melody too much here; just enjoy it as it is, let that warm trombone sound shine through! The 2nd trombone can decorate the melody a little more from measure 31 onward, but don’t let any swing feeling creep in before measure 38. You may wish to speed up a bit more than I have indicated at measures 47 and 62, but don’t play the swing sections too fast – this is not an up-tempo version. Just strengthen the swing feeling a little each time. This piece will test your quartet’s ability to play an easy swing really tight – especially when the melody is being pulled around, the lead player is playing a little behind the beat. As is usual with my arrangements, every player has the lead at some point, and maybe the chance to introduce a few of their own ideas. What I had in mind was a set of pieces for a student playing the lead 1st part and their teacher playing the accompaniment.  You will find the student or 1st part is similar in style and playing level as the slow etudes of the 32 Rose Etudes. There are 5 nocturnes in this setting. There is a score, however, due to page turns, the separate parts are more useful. Arranger's note: an accidental in one octave does not effect the same note in another octave,,,so an A# in a lower octave will be an A natural in a different octave.

There are many weak sounds throughout this song, but each phrase requires a rich expression centered on romanticism. At the same time, it is also important for the phrase to be passed down smoothly, and especially in the middle part, a flowing propulsion is required.
