The first variation is in 3/4 time in Dm, followed by variation #2 in DM, in an easy Jazz style, back in common time. The 3rd variation, also in D Major, is a Viennese waltz in 3/4. Variation #4, comes back in Eb Major, common time, as a chorale with a typical classical Coda. Best of all, every woodwind and brass player has a chance at the melody, and parts are doubled to sound full with even the smallest bands.

It works equally well when played by advanced high school students, college students, or even professional ensembles. All four players are given melodic material and are treated equally in a generally contrapuntal context, punctuated by some cool Jazz harmonies. The text of this song describes shaking off the snow to sing cheerfully and to embolden oneself against the wind and weather despite whatever woes might be stirring in one's heart. This transcription for clarinet quartet rotates the melody through the ensemble, giving equal weight to each of its four members. The transcription was originally completed as part of a set of adaptations from Schubert's Lieder; when grouped with the other transcriptions in the set (Gretchen am Spinnrade, Die Forelle, and Der Leiermann) it functions well as the fast emphatic final movement in a suite.

The title was inspired by Cherry Lake, which is a 600 acre lake located in Madison County Florida. It is a beloved lake of Madison County that gives beautiful sights and unique activities for all ages. The name stems from the presence of wild cherry trees near the water's edge, according to Allen Morris' book of place names.It is my hope that Cherry Lake March will provide students with a song that they will enjoy learning to play, and provide other music educators with a teaching tool that can be used to motivate and encourage their students.Cherry Lake March is dedicated to all of my former music students in the Madison County Florida School System, who I had the privilege of teaching from 1974-2016.

Kui is also defined as an instrumental composition in Turkic culture around 4 minutes length. This type of composition is generally performed with different national plucked, bow and wind instruments. I enjoy drawing inspiration from Asian mythology in my unaccompanied works and have employed the myth of the one legged dancing musician. I have combined with this imagery elements of jazz and rock and roll which I use freely throughout the work. It is a brief bravura solo work, but is says much in its brief three minutes.

Finally at the urging of my friend and soprano, Koren Cowgill, in 2007 I finally set about to complete this task. What grew of this work was the song cycle A Demon in My View. Selecting those poems which had the greatest meaning to me personally I originally set them for voice and piano. In 2021, at the request of my friends Stacy and Tido, I reset the cycle for viola, cello, voice and piano in a new arrangement which I feel breathes fresh life into the moody songs.
