It is the musical portrayal of a dog named Buck moving away from civilization and into the wilderness, but it's really about anyone taking a journey into the unknown. This piece is full of wolf calls (in the trombone), anvils depicting the gold rush, and the sounds of whips and sleigh bells from the dog sled. It opens with a dozen strikes from the percussion section imitating the striking of the club, which was Buck's introduction into captivity and the reign of primitive law. What follows is a majestic theme showing the beauty and strength of the dog. His development or retrogression is rapid as depicted in a faster section based on material from the original theme. Then Buck hears the call and joins the pack of wolves, resulting in a weird and eerie chant, in which it was Buck's delight to join. All the elements are combined in a triumphant conclusion.

These wereChristian songs which described Bible stories (Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho) or about living with the spiritof God (Every Time I Feel the Spirit). Sometimes the spirituals described the hardships of slavery (NobodyKnows the Trouble I've Seen). Most interestingly, some spirituals had hidden meanings. In Swing Low, SweetChariot it appears that the singer is talking about dying and going to heaven, but in actuality, home refers to aplace of freedom, and crossing the river Jordan means overcoming the obstacles to freedom.

The text presents hope as a quality that shines even throughout adversity and that only hope can help us to remain positive during extreme situations.Dickinson described hope as a bird that perches in the soul. The bird's song never stops, even when life is difficult. The poem suggests that it is hope's presence that keeps each individual moving forward in the face of adversity.Hope is everlasting, ever shining and undefeatable. It liberates us from despair and gives us the strength to move on. It only empowers us and in return demands nothing.

RUN conveys the message that we, as humans, are always running and chasing for something else in our lives; the various rhythmic patterns in the music are the different paces we take for the journey.The quartet is free to modify the tempo of the piece at their own discretion- according to their running pace for each section. Though restless with ostinatos in majority of the piece, the climactic passage slows down rhythmically, and the melody captures the idea that we should each search for the meaning and reason for the race in life.I hope this piece ignites the rhythm within you to keep running your very own race.Duration: 5 minutes.

However, in this case, I didn't sit down at the piano with the intention of writing a bossa nova; it's just what happened. It is also the longest melody I've ever written; forty-two measures to drop an octave and a half. The melody should sound suitably languorous over the quick little separated after-beats in the accompaniment. The subsequent development section of the piece should feel like improvised solos, played with considerable freedom.

As a veteran elementary band director,I am keenly aware of what students are able to accomplish at this level. March of the Shadows is a fun, slightlychallenging, and completely achievable work. It is a work that would be useful at the beginning of the school yearwhen it feels too summery to begin holiday music. March of the Shadows would be perfect for a Halloween orAutumn Concert.March of the Shadows begins with a whistle! It calls the show by announcing each new section of the piece. (Astudy of form.) It even reacts to a momentary modulation. The whistle part has all sorts of fun staging potential,including having it played by the director! The initial whistle is followed by a percussion introduction which sets thebeat. Seven percussion parts, three of them optional, have been included so that everyone in a large percussionsection will be kept engaged and out of trouble! The body of the work includes two alternating themes, one dark andshadowy in minor, the other bright, heroic and slightly syncopated in major. Every part gets the melody at somepoint, even the low brass and woodwinds! Ranges are all standard for early second-year band players, i.e. clarinetsdo not go over the break, trumpets do not go higher than middle line B, the snare drum part is sprinkled with basicrudiments such as flams and paradiddles. Even the horn gets a crack at the tune! Every part is fun, interesting andeducational.
