This solo piano piece provides a scenic description of autumn on a river, specifically River Philip in Rockley, Nova Scotia.  Bars 3 and 4 introduce the feeling of breathing cool, crisp fall air, after which the music settles into a more mellow feeling by bar 9.  At bar 13 the river continues to roll along, depicted by the eighth notes in the bass clef, while the pleasant fall atmosphere is remembered with the high treble clef notes.The composer has provided a few tempo and expression markings as a guide, however the piece is meant to be played expressively with the moving flow of the music dictating the expressive nuances interpreted by the performer.  A You Tube link is included on this page to provide further imagery for the performer.This piece is deemed to be at an intermediate level due to the difficulty switching between the treble and bass clefs with the left hand, while still keeping the tempo flowing smoothly.

It is also the official march of several Commonwealth navies, including the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy. It was also the official march of the Royal Australian Navy, but has now been replaced by the new march, Royal Australian Navy. The music of Heart of Oak was written in 1759 by composer William Boyce, the lyrics by actor David Garrick, for Garrick's pantomime Harlequin's Invasion, to which others contributed as well. The pantomime was first performed on New Year's Eve of that year at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, with Handel soloist Samuel Thomas Champnes singing Heart of Oak. The wonderful year referenced in the first verse was the Annus Mirabilis of 1759, during which British forces were victorious in several significant battles: the Battle of Minden on 1 August 1759; the Battle of Lagos on 19 August 1759; the Battle of the Plains of Abraham (outside Quebec City) on 13 September 1759; and the Battle of Quiberon Bay on 20 November 1759. The last battle foiled a French invasion project planned by the Duc de Choiseul to defeat Britain during the Seven Years' War, hence the reference in the song to 'flat-bottom' invasion barges. These victories were followed a few months later by the Battle of Wandiwash in India on 22 January 1760. Britain's continued success in the war boosted the song's popularity. The oak in the song's title refers to the wood from which British warships were generally made during the age of sail. The Heart of oak is the strongest central wood of the tree. The reference to freemen not slaves echoes the refrain (Britons never will be slaves!) of Rule, Britannia!, written and composed two decades earlier.

The only way to come out victorious is to turn limitations into possibilities, to leave to the listener's imagination what the sound cannot return, to play on the strengths-and there are many-of the instrument to which the score is destined.The flute, so archaic and close to human vocality, lends itself perfectly to music that alludes to theatrical aspects. So I decided to take up the request of the talented Italian flutist Michela Podera, and compose a short piece for her, all centered on recitative-flavored etchings, sometimes whispered and sometimes declaimed in a stentorian manner. The immediate source of inspiration was a painting by the Neapolitan painter Vincenzo Laricchia, to whom I owe the poetic mood and title of this work of mine: Masquerade.Composer pour flûte solo est un défi. RAGING FURIES - Rasende FurienGoddesses of revenge - Göttinnenn der RageConcert Piece for big orchestra - Score and PartsThe image of the raging furies as a topos has permeated the world of thoughts and images of mankind for thousands of years and has inspired and fascinated countless artists.This idea is also based on an emotional background, a violent, uncontrolled emotional outburst, a rage (Latin: furor, in the sense of frenzy, passion and madness, French: rage). The resulting affect action is described as rage or fury, combined with a state of mind of uncontrolled excitement in the sense of being beside oneself or out of one's senses.The personification of these affects was in Greek and Roman mythology with the trio of vengeance goddesses, the Erinyens (Latin furia) called: Alekto (the incessant, the never resting), Megaira (German: Megäre, the envious anger) and Tisiphone (the Vengeance avenging the murder, represented with a dog's head and bat's wings), and another, that of Nemesis (the reconciling justice). Already in antiquity they were depicted in sculptures, embossed on coins or immortalized as images on amphorae.They appear in all eras of fine arts, sometimes in female, male or androgynous form, e.g. as avenging angels, or as hybrid beings between humans and animals. Pictures by Albrecht Dürer, Hieronymus Bosch, Tizian, Peter Paul Rubens, William Hamilton, Johann Heinrich Fuessli, Franz von Stuck, Alfred Kubin, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon, Yongbo Zhao and many others are proof of this.They found their way into the literature of Virgil (Aeneis), Dante (Divine Comedy) or John Milton (Paradise Lost). As the title suggests, this is frantically wild music (Allegro molto vivace) that seems to run away, like an action film with fast motives and runs of strings and woodwinds, combined with strong accents of brass and massive percussion Set. Alternations of straight and asymmetrical beats illustrate erratic sequences of movement, as are typical of scenes with the highest intensity, especially in films (e.g. a chase). In the jazzy middle section, the furies calm down a little, before they pick up speed again in a bombastic third section and increase to the point of ecstasy.

It combines many of the subjects that fascinate me: the relationship of text narrative and musical narrative, the history of opera, early cinema, the theatrical practices of the nineteenth century, along with the folk and popular music of the Alpine region. A girl (the soprano), stranded on top of an un-climbable mountain peak as a young baby, is taught to sing by the mountain animals. Young Bobli lives in the village far below the un-climbable peak. He was born mute and communicates with the world by playing the trumpet. Bobli hears the soprano's song drifting down into the valley. The soprano listens to Bobli's trumpet tunes blown up to her by the wind. They are both enchanted. The three acts are separated by interludes describing how three animals experience time passing in relation to a musical tempo. Like any self respecting melodrama the text and music combine to depict or imply a wide ranging theatrical adventure, in this piece starting at the Creation (or the big bang), a lonely existence, scenes of rustic village life, some carpentry, many mountain goats, unrequited love, and ending in a quest destined to fail. In a live performance the text [provided with the performance material] is to be projected on a screen behind the musicians in the style of silent movie intertitles.
