Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553098 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Scott Camp. 20th Century,Concert,Graduation,Standards,Wedding. Score. 13 pages. Scott Camp #3909193. Published by Scott Camp (A0.553098). Possibly the most beautiful piece of music ever. This edition presents Debussy's masterpiece with as close to 100% clarity as possible:  no arrangement, no simplification, no abridgement, only solutions to the challenges of how to play this amazing masterpiece.  In my experience, I would guess that Clair de lune has been the final, unfulfilled and unattained goal of piano students more than any other piece in music history. If you recognize the truth in this statement, you owe it to yourself to investigate this edition, in which for the first time, all of the technical challenges are clearly identified with their solutions.  Playing a piece of music is not the same as mastering it.  Surviving a performance is not the same as playing with confidence.  There is no joy in being vulnerable to embarrassing mistakes.  It is no way to live.  You deserve a set of instructions (this edition) that enables you to master your performance, play with confidence and beauty, not an edition which blocks your access.Clair de Lune is so familiar that it is hard to appreciate just how revolutionary it (and Debussy) are.  The word revolutionary is overused, so we fail to realize that Clair de Lune is difficult to play largely because it was difficult to notate.  If the faculty of the Paris Conservatory didn't understand or appreciate Debussy, why would we expect the staff of a publishing company (as competent as they were) to understand the demands of his music.  Debussy broke the boundaries of conventional piano notation.  That means contradictions and ambiguity, which must be addressed.A note about fingering:  where and why it is or is not presented.  I've done my best to prepare an edition of this music that will enable the Intermediate Classical pianist to prepare and perform this masterpiece.  My goal is to include information that the pianist needs, but does not already know.  For Claire de Lune, some passages are dependent upon specific hand/fingering solutions, while other passages are either (1) equally playable with different fingering, or (2) only playable by what essentially becomes known as a self-evident solution.  For example, m9-24, and m61-62, fall into this category.  Octaves can only practically be played with fingers 1 and 5.  I provide a lot of finger numbers, but that is not the same as  creating an edition that can be played without significant staff reading.  The premise is that an intermediate musician should have access to advanced material--that is a musician is motivated to play pieces one level more advanced.  Attempting to bridge more than one level is not my goal.

Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018921 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 35 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6072943. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018921). Fugue: Wear Pearls and Smile is, on the outset, a fast, rambunctious adventure for many voices playing at the same time. It was conceived as a pairing for the equally vivacious second symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven–his 250th birthday is this year–but can stand on its own as one of my hardest, most challenging works to cook up.This piece is dedicated to those forced to appear positive when internally they’re falling apart. The title is inspired by a quote that’s been with me for a while, Why is it that men can be bastards and women must wear pearls and smile? by Lynn Hecht Schafren, the celebrated American jurist famous for campaigning for gender equity in courts. I’m taking the quote out of its initial context, but the power of that quote, for me, exemplifies how hard it is to maintain a sense of emotional decorum and dignity when you’re authentically a hot mess. And what’s more of a musical hot mess than a fugue? There are two realities to this piece. I’ll quote Dmitri Shostakovich, from his autobiography: The rejoicing is forced, created under threat, […] It’s as if someone were beating you with a stick and saying, ‘Your business is rejoicing, your business is rejoicing,’ and you rise, shaky, and go marching off, muttering ‘Our business is rejoicing, our business is rejoicing.’ On the one hand, it is insincere happiness, cloying perhaps. But the other truth, I’ll quote Oscar Hammerstein II, from The King and I: While shivering in my shoes / I strike a careless pose / And whistle a happy tune / And no one ever knows, / I'm afraid. I forced myself, against all impulses of my current being, to forge happiness. This piece, with its origin being a mental puzzle (fugues are puzzles), it became a construct where I could lift myself up and regain a sense of purpose. Therefore, it is invented–out of a literal need to survive–pure, genuine happiness.Future Performances: If you are interested in performing this work, please e-mail me.ABOUT THE COMPOSER: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.915693 Composed by Richard Joseph Barber. 20th Century,Christian,Christmas,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 13 pages. Barber Music Company #3868985. Published by Barber Music Company (A0.915693). Voicing: SAB w/ piano. Range: Sop., C4 to A5; Alt., C4 to E-flat 5; Baritone., C3 to E-flat 4. Duration: 2:40. Use: Christmas services. Great for choirs low on male voices. Performance: I wrote this piece as the finale to The Father Sent the Son, a cantata I wrote for one of my church choirs. The last theme in this piece is a reprise of the title music. I was thinking of the shepherds running to tell their neighbors what they had seen that wonderful night in Bethlehem. Avoid singing with a heavy tone. There should be buoyancy in the tone and in the diction. The tempo is fast a mm140, but it works if you pianist can handle it. I have done it at mm132 on more than occasion for a piano player's sake. It still worked okay, but if you can manage 140,do it. By the way, every choir that I have done this piece with has enjoyed it thoroughly. It is fun to sing and to hear. Please send your comments, and questions. I will be happy to hear from you! Guitar (jazz and contemporary) - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: M0.93721EB Composed by Vincent Bredice. Improvising, Lines & Phrases. Jazz. E-book. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #93721EB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.93721EB). ISBN 9781619119710. 8.75x11.75 inches. An interval is the distance between two notes measured in whole and half steps.  When we stack intervals one on top of another, we produce chords. If we play the intervals in the chord one after another, we produce an arpeggio. But since all intervals, chords, and arpeggios are generated by scales, it follows that scales are the basis of all music from these scales we will find our JAZZ LINES, which is what this book is about. The following is a list of most of the jazz scales the student will encounter as he becomes involved in the study of improvising.  When we improvise, we use as our weapons the scale, harmony and melody.  The two dimensions in music are the harmony (vertical) and melody (horizontal). It is highly recommended that every student of improvising, know his scales in all positions and a variety of chords that the scales generate. All scales should be played in at least four positions especially the 1st position forces one to learn the theory. All other position pattern scales must be transposed throughout the guitar. The author has written a few pages in the beginning of the book serving as a prerequisite for the jazz lines to follow.  It is essential that the student know the scales, key signatures, intervals, and chord constructions that will be used throughout the book. In order to benefit fully from this approach to jazz, the student must understand the full meaning of the words practice and analysis. Most students confuse practice with playing or reading through the exercise. To really improve and absorb the material, every phase must be practiced. This means the fingering must be committed to memory, slowly at first and then as fast as technique allows. The idea must be so ingrained in the mind that it flows from any part of the fingerboard that the performer desires. This is the way great players approach an idea – from any fret, string or position! If there is no harmonic or melodic analysis of the material being studied, then the learning skill becomes superfluous and there is no comprehension and absorption, and without this proper digestion the performer cannot use it as his taste dictates. All of the great players, have had a great technique and this is the first goal of the young student – “great chops.†As the student matures, musicianship will grow but technique is at the grasp of all who seek it.  Start today to acquire it!

This is the catchy calypso song from the spectacular dance scene in Central Park from the 2007 Disney flick Enchanted. If you've never seen it, at least check out that part of it (I think it's on YouTube). It's just fun, and it's a great song. It was nominated (along with two other songs also from Enchanted) for the Oscar for best original song. They all lost to an awful song you've never heard from a movie you've never seen. I think maybe the Academy has developed an allergy to Disney. The playback is a little goofy (there's a return to sign and then a coda), but the chart does track the way it's supposed to.If you need other instrumentation, please contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Concert Band - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024253 Composed by Sir Lunch. Latin. Score and parts. 76 pages. Sir Lunch #2917889. Published by Sir Lunch (A0.1024253). Some years ago, I saw a video of an orangutang sort of running about with some latin music and it was labled Salsa Time and I knew that someday I would write a piece with that title. Well, once it was finished, and I listened and meditated over what it said to me, what I heard was the westward migration of the early settlers of America, only in and through Mexico. Journey To The Setting Sun became my title, but to give it a bit more authenticity, the title is in Spanish, and has become Viaje al Atardeser. The piece opens with a train whistle. If you have none, the Flute 1 & 2 parts have it simulated. Rehearsal markers 1A through 1D serve as layers that lead to the main melody starting at A. At letter B, the Solo 1st trumpet takes on the melody with a slight variation of rhythm. There is a trombone trio from C to D. If you have 3 stong trombonists, I recommend the Eupf and Baritone TC opt out of playing through this section, in order to highlight your great trombone section. *Optional* You may, at your discretion put a fermata after the first beat of the bar before D and allow your solo trumpeter to play a free form cadenza. The mp3 has a sample of how this would sound. The cadenza would end with the pick-up to letter D and you may feel free to let that high note of the solo trumpet ring for a second or two before cuing the rest of the band in. Although from D to the a tempo 4 bars before E is a trumpet solo, the most crucial part of that section is the tambourine part going into double time, creating that extra pop and sense of urgency. This piece represents a watershed moment in my life, as it is my first composition for Concert Band.I encourage all feedback at sirlunch@gmail.comI hope you enjoy it!

Instrumental Duet,Piano Instrumental Duet,Piano,Trombone,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.750374 Composed by Eddie Lewis. Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 35 pages. Tiger Music #6635933. Published by Tiger Music (A0.750374). Pura Alegria Brass Sextet and Keyboard 3 Trumpets, 3 Trombones and Keyboard Composed for the Stirling High School Brass Ensemble, in East London, South Africa MBR 3430 By Eddie Lewis Spice up your brass program with this Latin tinged composition for three trumpets, three trombones and keyboard. Pura Alegria is one of Eddie Lewis’ en clave compositions, where every rhythm from every phrase in the piece is derived from the clave. The clave is a rhythm from west Africa that came to the tropical islands with the slaves. From there, hundreds of years later, the rhythm became the underlying groove for a number of modern Latin dance music styles. Eddie Lewis was exposed to the clave rhythms during a period of twenty years when he was making his living primarily as a salsa trumpet player. While Eddie’s compositions are not salsa, his writing has been forever influenced by that music and the people. And that influence is not limited to only the rhythms. We are only emphasizing the rhythms here because of the prominence of the clave in Pura Alegria. Stirling High School, East London, South Africa Eddie composed Pura Alegria for the students in the brass ensemble at Stirling High School in East London, South Africa. The students prepared it as part of a presentation and Eddie was honored to contribute something for them to work on and perform. The request came from Eddie’s good friend, Leonard Brandt. Leonard is a professional trumpet player in South Africa and also teaches applied brass at the high school. When Eddie was in South Africa for the jazz festival in Grahamstown (2016), Leonard arranged a personal performance of Pura Alegria for him in one of the empty classrooms. The composition was a smashing success and the students and the audience all enjoyed it! Skill Level When Eddie does a commission, he goes to great lengths to map out the skills of the individual players. Often times, his method’s skill levels don’t apply. Please keep in mind that skill levels in published music are not about how good the students are. Students will always have mixed skill sets. That’s part of what it means to be human. We are good at some things and bad at others. So the skills of the individual parts in Pura Alegria are varied, not only from part to part, but from skill to skill. That said, the highest note in the first trumpet part is written high C, and the rhythms are syncopated (because of the clave influence). We would put most of that first part in our Trumpet Pro skill level. The highest note in the second part is written A above the staff. The highest note in the third trumpet part is top line F. Practice Recommendations Pay special attention to the articulations, which can feel a little awkward, but really make the piece. Sometimes the eighth-notes are long and the quarter-notes are short. Other times the quarter-notes are long and the eighth-notes are short. Also be careful with the dynamics. There will be a tendency to play the entire piece too loud. Because it feels like that kind of piece. However, if you play it that way, it will ruin some of the compositional effects. This is especially true for the keyboard. If you are performing with a keyboard, not an acoustic piano, then what’s the amplification that it doesn’t bury the rest of the ensemble. You cannot have the keyboard set to the same volume as you would for a full jazz ensemble class. Other than that, have fun with this piece. The name, Pura Alegria, in English means Pure Joy! The rhythms are delightful and the melodies are infectious.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028034 Composed by Maxwell Olson. Contemporary,Jazz,Latin,World. Score. 7 pages. Jake Madeira #3223163. Published by Jake Madeira (A0.1028034). This étude is one of energetic character with simple, yet powerful melodies and rhythms that create a sense of curiosity. I composed this piece in a simpler form when I was around 17, in my high school music theory class. All of the ideas were there, melody and structure, but what it lacked was experience. It felt flat. So, 5 years later, after I rediscovered the piece, I decided to put some time into adding flavor, excitement, and intrigue. In doing so, I hope that I've created not only a technical challenge that will strengthen your skills, but a fun piece of music that you'll love to play!Split into three parts in an ABA format, this piece features a main theme divided by a softer second theme, both of which provide technical challenges in their own rights. The first focus of this étude is to build stamina in maintaining rapid octave progressions in each hand. This is coupled with quick jumps in the right hand that require precise and deliberate movements to perfect. The second focus is to strengthen control over legato passages in rolling arpeggios, while maintaining a delicate touch for the melody, and exercising the dynamic range of the fingers. In practicing this piece, it is very important to start slowly and with definitive control in all sections! It cannot be stressed enough how much of an impact bad habits can make on the execution of this étude. If you work diligently on finger control and technique, it will stick with you in all of your future endeavors! Be warned though: this is a difficult piano solo. It will take time and effort to learn, however, those efforts will all pay off in the end. Don't let it discourage you. I wish you all luck in learning this étude, and if you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me at walkingreject@gmail.com.

Percussion Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899162 By Bobby McFerrin. By Bobby McFerrin. Arranged by Ricardo Matosinhos. Jazz. Score and parts. 32 pages. Ricardo Matosinhos #5723941. Published by Ricardo Matosinhos (A0.899162). This is a well known piece by Bobby McFerrin. Here presented on a music arrangement for unconventional music instruments. The arrangement allows flexibility, so this piece can be performed using tuned bottles (25cl, 33cl and 75cl), lip whistle, finger snaps, complemented with xylophones and optionally with voices to sing the lyrics too. This arrangement was made during the 2020 quarantine, when the world was shutdown due to a world virus pandemic. Some of the music students didn’t have their music instruments at home, so this arrangement came up to fill that gap and it is perfect to keep doing music with the available option of instruments. On each rehearsal letter, you can play optional improvisations, while keeping the voices 5-8. These improvisations can be easily done using the C major pentatonic scale or the note ranges presented on the right, that even include E♭ and B♭. If played using lip whistle, bendings will be possible too. This arrangement presents 8 voices and an alternative solution for voice 8, that makes it easier to be performed as it is the place where bottles are divided between the players. There is also an optional bass line to complement voice eight one octave bellow. In order to keep it simple, neither dynamics or articulations were included and the notes were represented always in the middle octave in G clef. The correct pitch ranges are presented in the performance notes. The amount of water will change the pitch differently depending if you are blowing or doing percussion on a bottle. When blowing, the more water you use, the higher the pitch will be, but while doing percussions more water means lower pitch. A good option, in order to save time during rehearsals, is to fill the bottles with water, marking the level with a pen, and then filling the bottle with the desired amount of hot wax instead of water. This way, when the wax cools down you can have a tuned bottle without requiring to tune it again every single rehearsal. Please note that the bottles should be made of glass and that different aspects change the performance. For percussion, straight bottles are better to tune as the curves in the bottles tend to produce unstable pitches. The extreme notes of the range might not be available in every single bottle, so you might need to try some alternatives. For example the high A is available in some beer bottles, while the low G is available in larger 75cl bottles of champaign. Last but not least, this piece should always be played according to Bobby’s motto: dont worry, be happy!I had lots of fun while doing this arrangement, now it’s your time to have fun while performing it!Ricardo Matosinhoshttp://www.ricardomatosinhos.com
