This selection, For Unto Us a Child is Born, from George Frideric Handel's world-famous oratorio, Messiah, would be an excellent addition to any music library. Originally written for a four-part chorus accompanied by a small orchestra, this selection has been arranged for 5 Euphoniums by Regis Bookshar, without losing any of the vitality of the original version. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement will entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come. It is perfect for Christmas concerts and church services, is suitable for high school, college and professional performers and is one of my all-time favorite arrangements. Included are a score and a complete set of parts, written in Treble Clef (32 pages). A version written in Bass Clef is also available, if needed. Handel's original version is written in the key of Concert G. This version is written in the key of Concert F, to make it a little easier for some younger performers. This arrangement will prove to be a challenge for many players, especially during long passages played using one breath. Other versions of this selection, in both the keys of Concert F and the original key of Concert G, are available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. It also includes audience participation for the shout of Ghostbusters via a sign which is to be shown at points indicated in the score by the player standing up with it round his/her neck (sign is included). This shout could be rehearsed with the audience prior to the 'real' performance if appropriate. If not, they'll join in anyway!

Bach  bwv 1029   This beautiful sonata (which could easily have been another Brandenburg concerto if Bach had chosen to orchestrate it)  is too good to be just for violists and cellists. So here’s an arrangement in the Treble clef, which can be played  by FLUTE, or VIOLIN, or SAX, or OBOE, or GUITAR instead of the original solo part in the viola clef.  Also,  the key has been transposed from G minor to A minor.  Except for 2 measures in the first movement it is all playable without any octave jumps.  (those 2 measures have the higher octave alternative written above the original for the wind instruments that can’t go down to A.) The accompanying keyboard part is available in many print editions and also can be downloaded from public domain sites like IMSLP. Clarinet, Soprano and Tenor Sax,  can play accompanied by a real piano reading the original keyboard part.  All the other instruments can be accompanied by an electronic keyboard reading the original part if the keyboard  presses the appropriate transpose button.     Steve Newman                            Nov 2017                newmans@cruzio.com

D F Wainwright #1054849. Published by D F Wainwright (A0.1477459). As a string quartet, the Spring Quartet received some unusual requests for perfomances at, mainly, weddings. On one particular occasion many of the guests were music graduates and/or members of choral societies. The Bride requested that we play Zadok the Priest during the Wedding Breakfast. I duly arranged the whole piece for performance by our quartet. While we played, we could hear many voices softly joining in! It's one of those sorts of piece and I think this may be one of the few (if any) purely instrumental versions of this work. I've added an optional bass part if you want to play it with a string orchestra.
