It was composed as an instrumental with an incessant beat and a disco-like break in the middle.The piece was re-worked as the much more laid-back song Always There by Marti Webb; the song rose high into the Top Twenty. It also opened her album of the same name. But the song version lost much of the drive of the original.As this quartet arrangement is for playing, not singing, it makes sense to put all the drive back in!If you visit YouTube you will find some recordings of the original theme and these should point you in the right direction to make this piece blossom into a big wall of sound...It's for an intermediate quartet or large ensemble. Guitar 4 is tuned 6=D and is the most straightforward line. There's a version of Guitar 4 in bass clef for contra or electric bass, and here normal tuning is used. Guitar 3 is all arpeggios, mainly in first position. Guitars 1 and 2 take the tune and countermelodies.It's a foot-tapping piece that audiences will love!I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

The film composer, Dario Marianelli, used several period pieces of music for scenes in the movie. This is a lively festive dance that was originally composed by Henry Purcell who lived in the 17th century. It soundsvery folk-like and it's possible he heard it being played by a band and decided to formally write it down.I took the original music and added a section to it that I composed which sounds stylistically right to give it a bit more length. This musicis great for wedding recessional or just if you want a lively background music piece for your reception or gig it is fun to play. I also did a string quartetarrangement and you will find that on SMP as well.

Frenchman Charles Borel-Clerc wrote it originally in 1905 as a French cafe song, La Mattchiche, based on the Brazilian dance maxixa, predecessor to the samba, and in his subtitle he described it as a march based on Spanish themes. He repurposed it as a tune for a Spanish zarzuela (a little like an American musical play) and retitled it La Sorella, Italian for the sister. John Philip Sousa heard it when his band was on a European tour and recast it as a military-style American march. And this arrangement treats it as a tango, very Argentine. The reason I chose the name Yesterday's Future is basically because I wanted to write a piece where it portrays moving on from something happening in you life. If I were to write it again, I would probably change up the melody a bit halfway through to make it more interesting, but nonetheless, I am pretty happy with it.As the theme continues throughout the whole the piece, changing very subtly, it resembles something you need to let go of. At the end of the piece with the held right hand and moving left hand, I wanted to make that part sound like it is moving on with the dynamics changing to resemble anger and relief. And to it the sailors would dance, in part for the exercise on a long voyage. Samuel Pepys called it The Jig of the Ship. Presumably, a shipboard piper would play it at a comfortable, even slow, tempo, but it's typically performed at breakneck speed. Or you can start slow and accelerate to stupid. I put this arrangement together for our quintet to play at a U.S. Navy ship reunion. It's moderately brisk, right at the lunatic fringe of our capabilities. It's for two trumpets, horn, baritone TC (a trombone would be near impossible) and tuba, and no one escapes unscathed. This must-have arrangement would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals and could also be performed for church services. This brilliant work by Johann Sebastian Bach is an adaptation of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins and String Orchestra in B minor. Bach had gotten to know Vivaldi's concertos while he was an organist at Weimar, where he transcribed ten of them for solo harpsichord and six of them for organ. Originally written in B minor, Bach transposed it to A minor and, while preserving the melodic outline as conceived by Vivaldi for four violins, this later adaptation, from around 1730, for four harpsichords and string orchestra, is far more ambitious. In it, Bach has both tightened and expanded Vivaldi's counterpoint, enriched it with lusher harmonies and expanded the solo parts with greater complexity and greater clarity. The result is a composition that actually improves on the original work. Written in the standard three-movement concerto form of the Baroque period, Bach's Concerto for Four Claviers in A minor is a virtuoso piece for the soloists. Regis Bookshar has now rearranged the first movement of this concerto, marked Allegro, for a Euphonium Quintet, while maintaining the energy and virtuosity of Bach's original work. This arrangement is intended to be performed by accomplished players and may prove to be a huge challenge for many players, but, I think, it will be worth the effort. Included are a score and a complete set of parts, written in Treble Clef (41 pages). If you would prefer, a version written in Bass Clef is also available. In addition to this version for 5 Euphoniums, other arrangements of this selection are also available for a variety of Instrumental Quintets, some of which are in the original key of Concert A minor and some have been transposed to Concert G minor, making it a little easier for some performers, as well as numerous other arrangements in a wide variety of styles. I would encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. You may find something else which might interest you as well. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement will be a challenge to many performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.
