This version relies on the trumpets for whistling and trombone and horn for the lyric lines. Published by Frank Pugh (A0.942726).  I wrote Nuevo-Nueve for an ensemble of nine new first-time percussion students.  Nuevo meaning new or different, and Nueve meaning nine, seemed to be a good title for the piece.  Going along with the concept of nine, the song is written in nine bar phrases and has a total of 99 measures as well.  It uses simple and repetitive patterns to introduce students to the instruments that are utilized in the piece.  Out of the nine students that I originally wrote it for, six were wind players and the other three had never read music.  They had great success with it (and a lot of fun, too!).     The first four parts are all listed as generic mallet parts, and all work pretty well with whatever mallet instruments that you have available.  Part 3 and 4 double each other, but part 4 is in bass clef.  They are written on the same sheet.  If you have the equipment for it, I recommend the following instrumentation: Part 1:  bells or marimba Part 2:  vibraphone Part 3:  marimba Part 4: (optional, bass clef, doubles part 3):  bass guitar, keyboard, or mallet controller Part 5:  hi-hat cymbal, suspended cymbal, mounted tambourine Part 6:  guiro, castanets, maracas, two pitched toms Part 7:  drum set Part 8:  suspended cymbal, china cymbal, splash cymbal, triangle Part 9:  concert bass drum, cabasaBe sure to check out my other small ensemble arrangements here on Sheet Music Plus, and thanks for taking a look!

For a long time, I felt there was an a cappella choral piece hiding within it, in plain sight. One day I got inspired and gave it a try. Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece has its challenges. I tried to keep faithful to Satie's original musical inspiration and created lyrics to go with my arrangement that evoke an early summer morning, one of my favourite times of the year. Several months later, I applied to be a participant at one of the Vancouver Chamber Choir's Interplay workshops funded by the SOCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted. As dawn breaks was one of the pieces that this amazing choir sight read for me on the spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and choir members then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful. NB: One day I woke up to the realization that I had independently written four choral works, each of which had evoked a different season, and so it seemed natural to group them together into a choral suite that I have called The Ottawa Four Seasons Suite. As dawn breaks works perfectly as the opening number of this suite. Finally, my instruction to choirs is to sing as if in a painting, and indeed I invite any artists who might draw inspiration from this piece to consider creating a companion work of art to accompany it.

Like CABBAGE.This, then, is a little piece of kitchen-based nonsense, cooking up a rather unappetising dish comprising cabbage, egg, beef and a lot, lot more cabbage. I’ve arranged it (if that is the word) to include nods to the renaissance and baroque periods.The scores contain mark-ups to show where a particular player has an item of food in their motif.As well as EGG, you’ll find some GEG (that’s scrambled egg) and a BAD EGG (and some sad music). You’ll also find that the recipe includes a helping or two of BEEF.Bach comes in for a special mention, as there’s a fugue-like section where the subject comes in a fifth away from the starting key (which I’ve loosely interpreted as being a recipe in a foreign language) and there’s some stretti (well, just about) at the end, when the fugue subjects overlap a tiny, tiny amount. The Coronation March was ordered by the city of Moscow for the coronation of Tsar Alexander III in 1883. The American premiere was on May 5, 1891, for the opening concert of Carnegie Hall in New York City, conducted by Tchaikovsky himself. During the Soviet Era, Russian performances and recordings of the music were revised to omit the excerpts from the Czarist national anthem, replacing it with thematic material used earlier in the march, due to an official Soviet ban on the anthem. Starting with Dmitri Medvedev's inauguration in 2008, an abbreviated version of this piece is played during the Russian presidential inauguration accompanying the entrance of the incoming president, and ends well before the playing in this piece of the Tsarist anthem God Save the Tsar. Unlike Tchaikovsky's other major compositions, the Coronation March does not have an opus number. It has been given alternative catalogue designations TH 50 and CW 47. Tchaikovsky's Coronation March was originally scored for a full orchestra and written in the key of D Major. I think that the tempo is a matter of personal preference. The dissonance is more pronounced and beautiful at the slower speed, but the unexpected extra bars are more fun at a faster speed. At bar 68, the climactic section the cellist should be playing arco! There was  a mistake in the score and I have now corrected it! This is a good key for strings, and the double stopping always includes an open string. Although advanced players can make use of higher positions, younger players can use open strings which will not detract from this ancient style! I hope you enjoy playing this arrangement.
