It was a request from a bride who wanted it played at the end of her ceremony as the Exit March recessional. One problem: the ceremony was in a church, so I had to disguise the tune a bit to make it sound more like a regal fanfare than a kid's march. The result is eloquently altered - but still recognizable if you listen closely.  [In lieu of a Second Violin, that part can also be played on a trumpet (Trumpet in C).]  ENJOY!

It is predominantly used as a hymn for Good Friday usually in a setting by John Ireland who evidently composed it over lunch one day. This is a completely new SSA setting of Crossman’s wonderful text by Colin Kirkpatrick. In this setting there are opportunities for alto solos though they can be sung tutti if more appropriate. The keyboard part is essential though there is an a capella section in the middle. The highest note in the soprano part is one A flat above the treble staff. This is an accessible arrangement with rich harmonies and soaring melodic lines. It is sure to be a success at Easter occasions. Other SSA titles in this series of three Easter canticles are “Alone Thy goes forth, O Lord (Text by Peter Abelard 1079-1142)� and “A Time to Watch, A time to Pray (Text by John Mason Neale 1818-1866�. The first in my one composition a day series, I called it Ian's theme. My friends joked about it being the opening theme for Wednesday Season 2 which gave me a chuckle, the mix is a little hot in the MP3 and the dynamics might need some work in general. But hey, not bad for one days work if you ask me.  The Crystal Synth is just a nifty little sound in Musescore 4, I wrote a Glock 1 and 2 part that mimic the synth as it has intervals baked into the sound.
