It would be a shame if anyone took them too seriously, but they are not without a certain charm which I hope recommends them to both singers and audiences in search of new, lighter fare.

Long Road to Georgia is a simple trad jazz tune, written at a time when I felt a longing to be back home (which isn't Georgia, that just had a better ring to it than my actual home).Do check out the recording for a mock-up rendition. The strings are improvised and aren't necessary, but make the song sound a bit sweeter. The last play-through of the tune in the recording is done with other instruments improvising around the tune for a proper Dixieland feel. I wholeheartedly recommend this - it adds so much to the overall feel if you've got other instruments noodling around. The slow, simple chord progression makes this a really good tune for people who are newer to jazz & improvisation.

I tried to capture the sense of anxious and nervous excitement someone would have felt as he/she leaves family to chase dreams abroad. The key I chose to write in is B flat which has a warm color and a pensive tone. Throughout the piece, I relied on the sharp 4 scale degree (Lydian) to build a sense of mild tension as it is heard over the tonic before a release and quick resolution. Enjoy!
