Score. 5 pages. Catherine Wilson #933891. Published by Catherine Wilson (A0.1349151). Go the Distance from Hercules is part of a series of Disney piano solo arrangements for late beginner / grade 1.  Everyone can benefit by learning pieces they recognise, but in the early stages of learning, this can sometimes prove to be a challenge too far.  If the piece is too far outside the ability level of the student, frustration and self-doubt can creep in.The arrangements in this series concentrate on building connections between how the music looks, how it feels, and what it sounds like. To simplify learning, the arrangements are notated at half speed (where needed), do not require any use of sharps or flats, and are harmonised using a 5 - note hand position in the left hand.Short introductions have been added to highlight the hand position changes used in the song.  These give students the opportunity to build their confidence by navigating the changes of hand positions before encountering them in the recognisable part of the song.Catherine lives in a small rural village in Shropshire, England and has over 25 years experience teaching piano. Since completing her Master’s Degree, specialising in composition, Catherine enjoys arranging existing melodies with pianistic accompaniments that focus on furthering technique as well as providing an opportunity to enjoy performing recognisable pieces. Please check out Catherine’s other arrangements and original compositions here: www.catherinewilsonmusic.comhttps://www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/category/arrangeme/224/catherine-wilson/.

Viola Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1160860 Composed by Nick Norton. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Individual part. 3 pages. Bathysphere Music #761171. Published by Bathysphere Music (A0.1160860). I wrote Elegy II almost immediately after the Isla Vista shootings in 2014. Many of my students and friends at UCSB were deeply affected, and some came quite close to being in the line of fire. The piece reuses some melodic material from my first elegy, which I had written for my grandmother’s funeral a few years earlier. Both end on a picardy third. For the first elegy, I considered that a way of embracing a future influenced by the love for and memories of her. For this one, I’m not so sure. At best, it feels like an honest wish for healing. In the face of the daily murder of innocent people, it feels like a hollow gesture. In any case, if the piece brings someone some comfort, I am glad for that.Elegy II was premiered by the violist Jordan Warmath at a concert at UCSB in memory of the victims. A violin version followed shortly thereafter, and then a video and recording performed by my friend Jonathan Morgan.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.957962 Composed by Joshua Sharo. Contemporary,Standards. Score. 2 pages. Joshua Sharo #3096383. Published by Joshua Sharo (A0.957962). Practice Tips: With a bright piano, or one with a heavy touch, this piece may not sound great. The repeated notes in the left hand can be tricky without the right instrument. If you are able to play it, make sure to shape it independently of the right hand melody, which has a mostly constant volume level in the A section (measures 1-16). Note that in measure 16, the left hand pattern changes. Don't feel as though you must count from measure 34 to the end. You can use a lack of pulse to make your audience feel more emotionally attached to your playing. Just make sure that the moving parts of the main theme are still recognizable.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549466 Composed by Alexander Scriabin. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3499743. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549466). Score: 8 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 2 pages. Duration: 3:10. An introspective and meditative work with a lot of dynamic and phrasing nuance. Works well for church meditations or recital encores. Background Op.11/2 Alto Clarinet version. First of all, Scriabin composed mostly for the solo piano and also the orchestra. This is probably because he was a gifted pianist and therefore certainly appreciated the piano. Scriabin grew up in the late Romantic period, consequently, he was fond of the great piano masters of the time. As a result, he wrote his first noteworthy compositions in the manner of Chopin and Liszt. Forms Likewise, Scriabin used many of the same forms as Chopin. These certainly include the étude, prelude, nocturne, and even the mazurka. In contrast, as he developed his own sense of style his music became more and more unusual. So, the last five of his Piano Sonatas do not have a key signature and therefore lean towards atonality. Philosophy Scriabin also developed a keen interest in philosophy and likewise poetry. He was above all particularly fascinated by Nietzsche, Delville, and Blavatsky. Consequently, he finally established his own ideas about metaphysics and certainly mysticism. Scriabin consequently advanced theories about the relationship between color and musical keys. Synesthesia He also may have experienced a condition called synesthesia where he could probably sense a response created from a different stimulus. Therefore, it was almost as if he could see music and hear colors. Scriabin, therefore, arranged the colors in a circle similar to the circle-of-fifths and assigned each key area a color. Finally, he assigned the key of C to the color red, while the key of G was orange. Similarly, he assigned D to yellow, A to green, and so forth. Strangely, he did not differentiate between major and minor key colors.  Multimedia Hence, his ability to translate colors into music certainly gave Scriabin a most noteworthy interest in creating multimedia events. Furthermore, He designed his biggest work, the Mysterium, to last an entire week. Even more, Scriabin made plans not only for music, but also colored lights, incense, and dancing. He designed the performance to occur in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains. The Mysterium was never performed, and only sketches of the work remain. Modern Performances In modern times, we often experience performances of Scriabin’s most famous completed works accompanied by colored laser lights and incense. These are the Poem of Ecstasy (completed in 1908) and the Poem of Fire (completed in 1910). The lighting effects for these early performances were accomplished by the clavier à lumiéres. It was a keyboard instrument that projected colored light onto a screen.

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Piano - Digital Download SKU: A0.869330 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Latin,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 4 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #2032509. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869330). YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/user/thomasoboelee/videosWhen the Reed sisters, Elizabeth & Lydia, asked me to write a new work for two pianos, I wasn't quite sure where or how to begin. Then I came upon a book on numerology by Annemarie Schimmel, The Mystery of Numbers. In it I discovered a lot of fascinating things, mystical and magical, associated with each number from one to 10,000. Since I would be writing a piece for a duo, double digits would do the trick. Number 22 stood out. It has two important associations: the Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters, and there are 22 major arcana cards or allegories of the Tarot. Perfect! I could write 22 pieces, each a musical rendering of a card.  And, coincidentally, this work will opus 66.For pictorial inspiration, I bought a Pierpont Morgan Library copy of the Visconti-Sforza Tarot Cards from 15th century Italy. For musical inspiration, I listened to the wonderful salon music of the Polish composer Frederic Chopin, the American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk, and the Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth. The 22 pieces in the Visconti-Sforza Tarot Cards are: Zero Il Matto The Fool entertains the gathered guests with a tarantella. I. Il Saltimbanco The Mountebank shuffles his cards and does a samba. II. La Papessa The High Priestess concocts a magic potion. III. L'Imperatrice The Empress dances all night. IV. L'Imperatore The Emperor promenades into the Great Hall and inspects the courtiers. V. Il Papa The Pope makes a proclamation that all sinners will be pardoned. VI. L'Amore Love in a tropical paradise. VII. Il Carro Triumphant in battle, the gladiators ride into town on chariots. VIII. La Giustizia Justice is swift and unrelenting. IX. Il Vecchio The Old Man reminisces. X. La Ruota della Fortuna Fortunes rise and fall unpredictably. XI. La Fortezza Strength and fortitude will prevail. XII. Il Penduto Lamentation for the Hanged Man. XIII. Il Morte Death lurks around the corner. XIV. La Temperanza Temperance in A major. XV. Il Diavolo The Devil seduces with his charm and wit. XVI. La Torre The tower topples and crashes onto the populace gathered below. XVII. La Stella Twinkle, twinkle, little star ... XVIII. La Luna Minuet for moonstruck lovers. XIX Il Sole Sunshine, margaritas and salsa cubana. XX Il Giudizio On the Day of Judgment, the angels blow their trumpets ... XXI. Il Mondo The world would be a happier place if we all dance together. Performance option: Shuffle the 22 allegory cards from the Tarot deck to determine the order of performance.

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1160855 Composed by Nick Norton. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,New Age. Score. 11 pages. Bathysphere Music #761167. Published by Bathysphere Music (A0.1160855). The four calm interludes (should that be capitalized?) are Four One, On Nothing, About Sixths, and On Sol. They are intended as simple, meditative pieces, perhaps good for student pianists to attempt. In spring of 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, I suffered a massive manic episode followed by a debilitating depression that lasted over a year. During this time I found my relationship with music fraught—I could not compose, and could barely even listen to music for enjoyment, relaxation, or whatever other reasons people listen to music. It was terrifying, thinking my life’s work was over. The shift to being unable to compose or listen, however, was a gradual, like the shift from mania to depression. I found my listening habits following what seemed like a massive ritardando, as they moved away from the upbeat music I was used to toward more and more ambient, very slow music. Hiroshi Yoshimura’s album Music For Nine Postcards was on repeat for a long while before the total break. Its calm repetitions must have influenced what I was doing, because I sometimes found myself at the piano playing the same note or chord over and over again, just listening to the details in the resonance. Out of this came the first of these four pieces, On Nothing.Eight months later I found myself doing it again, the result of which is Four One. Another eight months went by before About Sixths, and then, as my recovery became more and more apparent, only two months passed until On Sol. I am grateful to say I am now composing every day again, though my music has, without conscious intention, taken on a far more introspective feel than ever before.I have not given the pieces numbers, because I don’t mind if they are played in a different order, alone, or—as the title suggests—as interludes between other pieces. I do like the printed order though.
