This arrangement for Low Flute Ensemble can be performed with as few as 5 players or a full flute choir with multiple players on a part.  It is scored for 3 alto flutes, 2 bass flutes, and optional contrabass flute.  I have always found the lyrics of The Impossible Dream extremely moving: To dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go. Would work great as an opening or closing to a concert. For performance, some sections may need to be slowed down maybe to make it less taxing on players. This piece is based on the simple idea of an A major chord, a D major7 chord and an E9 chord in 5th position played with an unusual right hand pattern giving a time signature of 10/8. Don’t panic, if you play the right hand pattern correctly, as indicated, it automatically comes out correctly. You will find all the techniques you need in my book The Art Of Accompaniment On The Guitar. I have given considerable technical guidance both in fingering and the use of different strings as these pieces are intended to be instructional. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Woodwind Octet consisting of 3 Flutes, 1 Oboe, 2 Clarinets, 1 French Horn and 1 Bassoon. One Flute, one Oboe and one Clarinet play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the other five instruments. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (36 pages). This version is written in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers, but another version is also available in the key of D Major if you would prefer. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. This next part is copy and pasted from my blog: My inspiration for The pianist's Wind Chimes came mainly from Philip Glass. The Philip Glass Etudes are kind of short, but I've been listening to them recently. They are somewhat profound even though they are brief and not that advanced. Of course a piece does not have to be long or hard to be profound. The Minimalist style is a great way for beginner and intermediate piano students to sound excellent at piano recitals. I usually don't think about the title of a piece first. The title came to me as I was working on it. Funnily enough, the title might be the worst part of this piece. I only used the name The Pianist's Wind Chimes because I thought it was a cool name (ha ha ha!). In the middle of The Pianist's Wind Chimes, there is a reference to Beethoven's Fur Elise. The famous first two measures of Fur Elise were part of my inspiration. The notes are sort of different. I didn't want to copy Fur Elise completely. But I did want to make the reference obvious enough. I do wander how many people will recognize the reference. I hope most of them will.
