Practice Tips: This notation may look confusing, but it's easy to get used to! Measures 1-14 are made up of a constant eighth-note rhythm that alternates between both hands. Chords in the top staff should be played by the right hand, and chords in the bottom staff should be played by the left hand. The melody alternates between the hands. In measures 1-6, bring out the bottom note of the left hand. In measures 7-15, voice the top note of the right hand. The left hand's line in measures 17 and 21 should be treated as a response to the right hand. Pedal both measures in their entireties; however, be careful not to play the first note in either measure too loud, or else it will not sound nice. Also notice the cross-staff slurs in measures 19 and 20: the shape of the inner melody will be easier to hear if you are able to clearly voice the first A. If your hand is too small to reach the 9th in measure 15, you can substitute an A for the bottom note, or you can take a bit of extra time and play the first G with your left hand.
