Clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, viola, piano - Digital Download SKU: IZ.PDP100 Composed by David Diamond. Score and Parts. 97 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #PDP100. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.PDP100). 9 x 12 in inches. The Chamber Symphony dates from his New York period before he studied with the legendary Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979) at the American Conservatory outside of Paris. Like other works from his early 20s, this piece exhibits an extraordinary grasp of structure and overall design within a tonal harmonic language. The unusual scoring (clarinet, bassoon, viola, trumpet, and piano), like so many other chamber pieces written between the two World Wars, shows the influence of Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971), who would later become a close friend of the young American. The Chamber Symphony was premiered on 7 May 1937 at the Federal Theater in New York City. Jacques Gordon conducted the WP A Ensemble. Evidently the group was under-rehearsed and Diamond was not happy the performance. Thinking that the fault lay with the composition itself, he consigned the score and parts to a trunk in the attic of the family home in Rochester where it remained for over fifty years. I ran across a reference to the Chamber Symphony in the early 1990s and telephoned David Diamond to ask if I could get a copy of it. Thus began a sporadic exchange of telephone calls and postcards over the next five years. Among other things, we discovered that his parents and my paternal grandmother had come from the same region of Ukraine. Eventually he tottered up to the attic and sent me a copy of the score, with his penciled corrections, and his original parts, which I photocopied and returned to him. I performed the piece with colleagues at Kansas State University and sent Diamond a copy of the recording. He was ecstatic with our performance and told me I wonder why I've suppressed it for all these years? I got to meet David Diamond in June 2000 and we discussed the possibility of trying to get the Chamber Symphony published. He averred that his regular publishers wouldn't be interested owing to the limited market for such a work. A year after David Diamond's death I began my venture into music publishing and contacted Sam Elliott, a close friend of the composer's who serves as the executor for his estate. Mr. Elliott was happy to hear that I wanted to publish the Piece through Prairie Dawg Press and gave his kind permission to do so. I hope that my colleagues will enjoy this work as much as I have and that it will receive frequent performances.

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1117904 Composed by Edward Elgar. Arranged by Robert Luke Thompson. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Film/TV,Patriotic. 8 pages. Monkspath Music #719410. Published by Monkspath Music (A0.1117904). Sir Edward Elgar’s compositional output was prolific, with many well-known pieces, including the Pomp & Circumstance marches, Dream of Gerontius, and of course, the Engima Variations. Elgar’s legacy has been widely debated, but there is no doubt of his influence on ‘English’ music and composers such as Ralph Vaughan Williams, but also further afield, on composers as diverse as Richard Strauss, Jean Sibelius, and Igor Stravinsky. Along with a central theme woven and varied throughout the work, each movement of Engima Variations is also a musical illustration, based on a family member or close friend of Elgar, and indeed Elgar himself. He dedicated the work “to my friends pictured withinâ€. “Nimrod†is the name given to the ninth movement, based on Elgar’s editor and publisher, Augustus J, Jaeger. Musically, there is an obvious hint at the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata Pathetique, but beyond this there are beautiful legato lines spread across the whole ensemble and a wide variety of timbral, dynamic, and tempo colourations. “Nimrod†has become a popular piece as a standalone item – often featuring in funerals, memorial services, and other solemn events such as Remembrance Sunday. Hans Zimmer also adapts the piece for use in the score for the 2017 film Dunkirk, and has become a standard tune to represent stoic ‘Britishness’. 2 flutes of the Same Kind - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.7.0661-E Composed by Stanley M. Hoffman. Score. 5 pages. Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital #7.0661-E. Published by Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital (MQ.7.0661-E). “The first melody is reminiscent of the opening of The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky, but my theme always functions as a mantra. The flutes then meditate on that tune. A transition follows that is evocative of the opening of Symphony No. 6 by Jean Sibelius. Another transition leads to a stretto, then again to a transition, and then to yet another stretto. Next comes the first memory theme. The memory theme is borrowed from my composition Fantasypiece (violoncello and bass) and the orchestral version of it, Fantasypiece for Orchestra. A meditation ensues followed by an ornate, baroque-like variation on the memory theme. The piece closes with a final meditation.†-Stanley M. Hoffman.

Piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7018 Composed by Antonio Domenico Puccini. Edited by Wolfgang Birtel. This edition: single sheet. Edition Schott - Single Edition. Copyright 2009 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Downloadable, Separate edition. Schott Music - Digital #Q7018. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7018). A tango written by Giacomo Puccini? Indeed! In 1942 'Piccolo Tango' by the Italian opera composer was published by an American music publisher. The question as to whether it was actually composed by Puccini has not been confirmed - but the heirs had the work protected by copyright, thus confirming Puccini's authorship. In the years 1907 and 1910 the composer took one trip each to the United States. It might be possible that Puccini wrote the little tango on that occasion, thus showing his reverence to the host country with bold jazzy harmonies. And he was not the only classical composer who dared to take an excursion into the realm of entertaining music, for even fellow composers such as Igor Stravinsky or Kurt Weill, Erwin Schulhoff or Isaac Albéniz were tempted to compose a tango too.
