The key of Db was chosen to keep the piece from going into the stratosphere for the poor trumpet 1 who needs to save their chops during the rest of a church service (and the rest of the group of course!). The Timpani is totally optional but adds an Epic flair to the ending if you add them in. 

Note: I wrote this arrangement for my own Easter Brass quartet and it works very well. The Trombone part would likely sound best played on a Bass Trombone or possibly a Tuba,  but I was able to do it justice with my large bore tenor.

Motet Komm, Jesus, komm, BWV 229, for double choir, was most likely composed for a funeral written in Leipzig and first performed in 1731-32. It's biblical text was written as a poem by Paul Thymich.

Mr. Sauer has done a magnificent job transcribing all six of Bach's choral motets BWV 225-230 for 8-part Trombone Ensemble. This is a major undertaking. All are very worthy additions to the Trombone Ensemble repertoire.

This work for 8-part Trombone ensemble is in two movements and about 7 1/2 minutes in length. This music is appropriate for advanced performers.

The top two voices have parts supplied in both alto and tenor clef.

This fun brass trio arrangement includes two traditional sailing tunes: Sailing, Sailing and Sailor’s Hornpipe.

This works really well as an overture to an around the world recital program, and it also fits onto any kids’ show. The quintet version of this is the overture to our hugely popular Sailing the High C’s show, but it’s an awesome stand alone piece as well. Since it’s only about a minute and a half long, it’s a great program opener or 2nd half opener.

Plusers gens voy is a song composed by the late 14th-century French composer Solage. The song is written for four voices: tenor, contra tenor, cantus, and triplum. The lyrics of the song are Plusers gens voy qui leur pensee / A leur dame ne sont pas nee / Car ele est de si grant beaute / Que nus ne la puet veoir sans faille which translates to More people have seen in their thoughts / That they were not born for their lady / For she is of such great beauty / That no one can see her without failing.

The overall message of Plusers gens voy is a declaration of love and admiration for a lady of great beauty. The lyrics suggest that the lady is so beautiful that it is impossible for anyone to see her without failing. The song is a tribute to the lady's beauty and is likely a reflection of the composer's feelings towards her. The song is a beautiful example of medieval French music and poetry and is still performed and studied today.

Of the 11 surviving settings of the Mass by Charpentier, the present work, the Messe de minuit, is without doubt one of the most popular. Although Charpentier's Parisian career is quite well documented, little is known about the genesis and first performance of the Messe de minuit. It is likely, however, that it was commissioned by the Jesuits of the church of Saint-Louis (today, Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis) for whom Charpentier had been working as maître de musique since 1687. The Messe de minuit belongs to the tradition of the parody-mass for which Charpentier adapted 10 noëls - whose titles are given in the autograph MS - to the text of the ordinary and the resulting music is fresh, charming and jubilant.

Fuego, fuego - Villancico para San Pedro Nolasco á 7 - Antonio Duran de la Mota. This beautiful villancico with text by Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz and music by Antonio Duran de la Mota, made famous by Ensemble Elyma, was adapted to different texts during the 18th century. Ensemble Elyma recorded it as Fuego, fuego, que el templo se abrasa. This pretty much the same villancico, but some differences, both musical and with the text. The text says Fuego, fuego, que Juan de Dios se abrasa. The other lyrics can be adapted without problems. The original sheet music is in F Major, although the tenor's vocal range is too high to sing comfortably (remember that, in early music, the tessituras are not necessarily identical to what we now understand as alto, tenor, etc. It is likely that the tenor was sung by a female voice). Anyway, in this file is also included the piece transposed a minor third below, that is, in D Major.

Goin' Home, is based on the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak's famous Largo theme from his Symphony No. 9 (5) (From the New World), Op. 95. His symphony was composed while he was in America and was first performed by the New York Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall on December 16, 1893. It has been said that Dvorak's themes in his symphony were inspired by American folk melodies, especially Afro-American or American Indian. But his themes are just as similar to Bohemian folk music and most likely from that music.

This arrangement is based on the one played in the movie Clear and Present Danger by the United States Air Force Band. It has been used at presidential funerals for the departure ceremonies at Andrews Air Force Base for Presidents Reagan and Ford and was used in 1998 for the dis-interment ceremony for the Vietnam Unknown at Arlington National Cemetery. It is still used today by military bands at Arlington.

La Caroline, H. 98 (Wq. 117/36) is one of dozens of short character pieces of great charm written by the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788), oldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach. As a composer, CPE Bach occupied an interesting transitional space between baroque and classical music and certainly helped to usher in the stylistic traits of the latter into general popular usage. 

The piece here is arranged for classical guitar solo at an intermediate level. It is more a transcription than a true arrangement, and every attempt has been made to keep the music as close to the original as possible. All fingerings are editorial, and most ornaments, except for trills, have been written out rather than notated with a symbol. However, many expert pianists embellish these ornaments (sometimes very lavishly), particularly on repeats, and expert guitarists will likely want to do the same. Since the original music was written an octave higher and to be played on the delicate-sounding keyboard instruments of the 18th century, some guitarists may want to experiment with using a capo to better create a more period-appropriate sound.

Bach marks the tempo as Allegro ma con tenerezza (fast but with tenderness) and most keyboardists take it a moderate to quick tempo. On the guitar, which has a different resonance, the piece can also be convincing played at somewhat slower tempos, but certainly nothing slower than a true andante.

This Sonatina is written for late intermediate flute and advanced piano.
The theme for this composition is 'Ancestors'.
The First movement is Sonata Allegro form and the introduction includes wide open intervals to depict the ship leaving the land and the wistful feelings that likely were felt by my ancestors. As the pimrary theme emerges, the piano part depicts the rolling waves. The secondary theme is nostalgic in sound.

The Second movement explores an wider set of open sounds to depict that life is both hard and beautiful.

The Third movement is pure fun. It is a Theme and Variations, highly articulated and fast! The flutist is going to want to get really good at the scalular passages in order to zip through it.
