Tackling the grief of lost love and the pain that can accompany fond memories, this poem by Christina Rossetti addresses the complex feelings we can have about our pasts. This work is appropriate for multiple different voice types and is approximately 4.5 minutes in duration. This song is also available as part of the collection, Four Rossetti Songs. Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1029294 Composed by CÉSAR CANO. Contemporary,World. Individual part. 35 pages. POLYHYMNIA Ediciones musicales #4799751. Published by POLYHYMNIA Ediciones musicales (A0.1029294). In the second century AD, Artemidoro de Daldis (135-200), a very cultured man who had traveled a lot, contemporary of Emperor Marco Aurelio, wrote in Ephesus his work Symbolism of Dreams (Oneirocritica). In it he tried to create a systematic theory for the interpretation of dreams, based on experience. Artemidoro claimed that he had written his work in five volumes by express order of the god Apollo, who had appeared several times in his dreams. In his fascinating book he distinguishes five kinds of dreams: Dream, Vision, Oracle, Appearance and Fantasy. Artemidoro’s book, Op. 63, is a work for guitar in five movements, which take their titles as the kinds of dreams mentioned above: Dream, Vision, Oracle, Appearance and Fantasy. It is an extensive composition, 19 minutes long, and with a great variety of compositional and instrumental techniques: the performer, who is asked for a lot of versatility and imagination, has to play glissandi, harmonics, pizzicati, bells, loops, metric modulations, ordinary and muted strokes, microtones, distortions, various kinds of bumps in the box, etc. The five movements share a special scordature and the same melodic, harmonic and rhythmic material, which is transformed according to the dreamlike atmosphere of the piece, but always maintaining each of the structural elements a recognizable identity. The multiple presences of these essential identities throughout the work articulate the complex form of the Book. I finished the composition of The Book of Artemidoro on April 24, 2006. The work is dedicated to guitarist José Guerola, who premiered it at the Vivanco Palace in Catarroja (Spain), on May 5, 2006.

Soprano voice and tenor voice soli, SATB choir unaccompanied - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8323-E Composed by David Conte. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, 21st Century, Americana, Children, Creation/Nature, Hope/Assurance. Instrument part. 9 pages. Duration 5 minutes, 42 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8323-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8323-E). UPC: 600313483233. English. The three a cappella choral pieces that comprise “A Whitman Triptych†were composed between 2012 and 2014. O Setting Sun was commissioned by the Madison Chamber Choir, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Cao, conductor, and was premiered on April 20th, 2012. “What is the Grass†was composed for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor, and is being premiered on tonight’s concert. Facing West was commissioned in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by the International Orange Chorale, Zane Fiala, conductor, and was premiered on May 27th, 2012. I first set Whitman to music in 1986,when I adapted part of “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed†as the basis for my composition “Invocation and Dance.†I went on to set “Good-Bye, My Fancy†for Male Chorus and Soprano Saxophone in 1992, and “Song of the Open Road†for Mixed Chorus and Piano in 2004. Like so many composers, I have found the visionary quality of Whitman’s verse inspiring; the vigor and intensity of the poetry seem naturally to draw out music. Facing West is drawn from the Children of Adam book from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. The full title of the poem is Facing West From California's Shores. Though Whitman never visited California, his biographer Justin Kaplan made the insightful observation that he imagined California's shores to be the starting point for a journey through time and culture. Here was Walt, 'a child, very old,' facing home again, looking over to it, joyous, as after long travel, growth, and sleep, asking: 'But where is what I started for, so long ago?/And why is it yet unfound?' The invitation from the International Orange Chorale to compose a piece in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge led me easily and naturally to this great poem. The tone of Facing West is rich and complex, and draws on one of Whitman's favorite themes of using travel to distant lands as a metaphor for spiritual development. In his poem, Whitman strikes notes of reflection, of longing for adventure, and ultimately ends with a question. The continuing relevance of this question is for me beautifully addressed by the contemporary American writer Edmund White in his 1980 book States of Desire. To paraphrase somewhat, White writes: California is where dreams may come true, and the problem it presents is whether, after all, we wanted these particular dreams to be fulfilled - or would we have preferred others? Did we know what price these dreams would exact? Did we anticipate the ways in which they would unsuit us for the business of daily life? Or should our notion of daily life itself be transformed? For Americans, California's coast is as far as one can go in establishing new roots and new ways of living. As a transplanted Midwesterner who has made California his home for nearly three decades, I experience the Golden Gate Bridge as a beautiful monument to the aspirations and dreams of a restless and inventive people, qualities that Whitman's poem captures perfectly. -David ConteDuration: 5:42

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1452471 By George Gershwin. By John W. Collette. Arranged by Timothy Stapay/George Gershwin. Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 5 pages. Timothy Stapay #1031803. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1452471). Here is George Gershwin's version of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles, which I arranged based on a Gershwin piano roll from the early 20th century.  It was held in a private collection for decades.   Here for the first time is my sheet music arrangement for this classic from long ago.  Before he was famous, George was what was known as a song plugger.  He would play newly composed songs to help generate record sales.  In the early 20th century, many homes had player pianos.  George's performance was preserved on such a roll and is only now available to the general public.Composed in 1918 by John W. Collette.  The phrase “blowing bubbles” symbolizes the act of chasing dreams, hopes, and aspirations. Just like soap bubbles that float away and disappear, dreams can be elusive, fleeting, and transient.  Famously covered by Doris Day.Lyrics:[Verse 1]I'm dreaming dreamsI'm scheming schemesI'm building castles highThey're born anewTheir days are fewJust like a sweet butterflyAnd as the daylight is dawningThey come again in the morning[Chorus]I'm forever blowing bubblesPretty bubbles in the airThey fly so highNearly reach the skyThen like my dreams.

Small Ensemble B-Flat Clarinet,Cello,Horn,Piano,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1031778 Composed by Mavis Pan. Contemporary. Score and parts. 15 pages. Mavis Pan Music #3554423. Published by Mavis Pan Music (A0.1031778). This composition is inspired by the Disney film, Peter Pan, which depicts a fictional character who is incredibly mischievous and charming yet possess the spirit of eternal youth. After Peter finds Wendy Darling, who has always believed in Peter Pan's existence and loves to share tales about him, Peter invites Wendy to an adventure to Never Land. Though Wendy doubts her ability to fly, Peter teaches her the only way to reach her dream land is to leave her worries behind and have faith and trust and a little help of pixie dust... Upon the farewell of a beloved who reminds me much the character of Peter Pan, I composed this piece as a remembrance of the happy time we have shared and wish his dreams come true as he continues to fly on his musical journey. Mavis Pan Come with me where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Land. Let not doubt crush your wings, let not fear steal your dreams. Dreams do come true, if only we wish hard enough. All you need is faith and trust and a little bit of pixie dust. I am young at heart for my love never grows old. The wrinkle of time can't be traced on my innocent soul. The ship of our dreams will soar and turn to gold. Oh darling please do hold my hand, and dream with me to Never Land. Fly oh fly , fly straight till the morning. Fly ...oh fly....oh fly and never never say goodbye.
