The jazz and spiritual influenced aria is a lullaby for Clara to sing to her child in act 1, and is reprised several times throughout the opera. The song has gone on to be one of Gershwin’s most popular compositions with thousands of versions being made and recorded. This arrangement is for Bb Trumpet and Alto Saxophone duet, but for a more mellow sound-world the trumpet part could be played on Flugelhorn instead.
