The Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68, also known as the Pastoral Symphony, is a symphony composed by Ludwig vanBeethoven and completed in 1808. One of Beethoven's few works containing explicitly programmatic content (instrumental music that relates a story or portrays a scene), the symphony was first performed in the Theater an der Wien on22 December 1808 in a four-hour concert.The finale, which is in F major, is in 6/8 time. The movement is in sonata rondo form, meaning that the main themeappears in the tonic key at the beginning of the development as well as the exposition and the recapitulation. Like many classical finales, this movement emphasizes a symmetrical eight-bar theme, in this case representing the shepherds' song of thanksgiving.The coda starts quietly and gradually builds to an ecstatic culmination for the full orchestra (minus storm instruments)with the first violins playing very rapid triplet tremolo on a high F. Joropo de Justina is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Violins.This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Joropo which is the national and traditional music of Venezuela. The music and its accompanying dance comes from the central plains area and is also found over the border in parts of Colombia. The basic pulse of the Joropo is 3, but this is overlaid with complex cross-rhythms. The main instrument is the harp, along with cuatro and maracas as the only percussion instrument. In the modern era other instruments may join the ensemble, especially bass. This arrangement represents the song style of Joropo, with the vocal alternating with instrumental breaks. If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The many cross rhythms will provide a rhythmic challenge and there is little time to catch breath; following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Joropo de Justina has a performance time of around two minutes at full tempo. Violin Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Burgundian Air/March of the Three Kings, has been arranged for 5 Violins, by Regis Bookshar. It would be a great addition to any music library. It incorporates two traditional French melodies into one exciting arrangement, which, I'm certain, will entertain both performers and audiences alike. It is suitable for high school and college students and is perfect for Christmas concerts and church services but could be performed anytime and anywhere. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (21 pages). It begins with a Burgundian Air, played by a solo instrument. The melody is then played by two instruments in harmony before the rest of the ensemble joins in. This is followed by the March of the Three Kings, a Provencal melody (La Marche Des Rois Mages) which dates from the 13th century and recalls the Three Kings of the Christmas story. The peasants probably sang and danced to this tune, even perhaps honoring their own folk heroes, the French dukes, dressed in their shining armor and carrying brilliant banners, as they marched off to the Crusades. Georges Bizet utilized this tune as a farandole, or stately dance, in his incidental music for Alphonse Daudet's play L'Arlesienne (The Girl from Arles). There is a fugal section in which each instrument enters, playing an embellished version of the tune before concluding the arrangement. Also available are other settings of these two Traditional French melodies for a variety of instrumental ensembles as well as numerous other arrangements in a variety of styles. A barcarolle is a traditional folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers, characterized by a rhythm reminiscent of the gondolier's stroke, almost invariably in 6/8 meter at a moderate tempo. or an instrumental piece composed in the same classical style. This modern Barcarolle, is a soft lilting Barcarolle in 6/8 time. It is in concert E flat major and in ternary form. After a gentle introduction the main theme begins with the instruments sharing the melodic line before eventually harmonising. These outer sections provide a lilting, rocking type mood to set the character of the piece. The middle section by contrast, has a lot more movement for variety but keeps within the style of the Barcarolle. On return of the main theme once more the piano takes the melody with small embellishments by the individual parts before a gentle conclusion. I have greatly abridged and simplified the piece into a 2 part instrumental duet without losing any of the character of the Romantic piece. I have arranged themes from each of the three sections, keeping the original structure, but taking liberties such as changing phrasing, dynamics, adding my own markings, and even changing the Time Signature in certain passages. I begin with each instrument taking solo turns on the melody and end with a similar cadenza style set of solos for each instrument. The two parts are of equal importance and much of the character is in the interplay between the two instruments. This is a beautiful concert arrangement of a beloved classic.
