Phil Beaman #5954915. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844880). The Italian Baroque composer Alessandro Scarlatti wrote Cara e Dolce as a Vocal Aria for his opera Fidalba e Oreste (ca 1679). It was originally written with just melody and a figured bass line. I have arranged it for an Instrumental Trio. I began by putting the original melody and bass line in place with minor changes. Then I realized a single inner voice according to the figured bass. Since there were no lyrics now, I needed to add interest musically. I next elaborated each of the lines with extra notes to create a more melodic line for each part. Then in several places I also elaborated the figured bass and used period chord substitutions to strengthen texture. Next I devised detailed new phrasing to create a more polyphonic feeling. Finally I decorated with numerous baroque ornaments and dynamics. Don't worry, all that effort was just to make it easy and fun for you to play and absolutely gorgeous. This piece is a fantastic addition to Baroque period repertoire.

Far Reaching Vista (From Here to Eternity) is a Tone Poem for Instrumental Trio reminiscent of Les Six (the Parisian composers Poulenc, Auric, Durey, Milhaud, Honnegar, Tailleferre). I have used 20th century harmonies, alternating Time Signatures of 4/4 and 6/4, and many, many markings which require interpretation and musicianship. In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of contrasts and constant shifts between dynamics, articulations, and themes. There are interpretive marks in every measure as each part independently adds to the stunning polyphonic weaving. Not too difficult to play but sounds quite advanced when all details are observed. A great piece to show your musicianship as a group. To be played warmly and with passion to welcome people to your Roadside Inn.

An expressive Gospel rendition of Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross (a.k.a. “Near The Cross�) has been newly-arranged as an Instrumental Trio.  The audience will be moved by its soulful rhythms and harmonies.  Although it is a slower 6/8 tempo, there are melodic embellishments, grace notes, triplets, and subdivisions of the eighth note into sixteenths.  A four-measure transition creates a modulation up a Perfect fifth.  Appropriate as a Lent, Holy Week, Easter solo, worship, concert, contest/festival, or recital piece.  Adaptable to school or church settings.  Performance Time: 3:30.
