Tenor voice solo, SATB choir unaccompanied - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8322-E Composed by David Conte. Advanced/Collegiate. Secular, 21st Century, Americana, Children, Creation/Nature, Hope/Assurance. Instrument part. 15 pages. Duration 5 minutes, 42 seconds. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8322-E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8322-E). UPC: 600313483226. English. The three a cappella choral pieces that comprise “A Whitman Triptych†were composed between 2012 and 2014. O Setting Sun was commissioned by the Madison Chamber Choir, Madison, Wisconsin, Anthony Cao, conductor, and was premiered on April 20th, 2012. “What is the Grass†was composed for Cappella SF, Ragnar Bohlin, conductor, and is being premiered on tonight’s concert. Facing West was commissioned in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge by the International Orange Chorale, Zane Fiala, conductor, and was premiered on May 27th, 2012. I first set Whitman to music in 1986,when I adapted part of “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed†as the basis for my composition “Invocation and Dance.†I went on to set “Good-Bye, My Fancy†for Male Chorus and Soprano Saxophone in 1992, and “Song of the Open Road†for Mixed Chorus and Piano in 2004. Like so many composers, I have found the visionary quality of Whitman’s verse inspiring; the vigor and intensity of the poetry seem naturally to draw out music. “What is the Grass?†is also an adaptation of a much longer poem, one of Whitman’s deepest, and most mysterious. The poem begins as a child-like meditation on grass; as hope, as an embodiment of new life and new growth in the plant world. Then suddenly there is a somber turn with the line “And now it seems to me the beautiful uncut hair of graves.†Here Whitman enters an extended mediation on how grass connects life and death, informed by his experiences in the Civil War. Hope returns with the line: “They are alive and well somewhere,†leading to the mysterious final line: “And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier…†Here Whitman affirms that death can be an initiation into a broader participation of existence. In the words of poet Ivan M. Granger, Whitman offers a “Zen-like riddle that doesn’t offer an answer so much as a pathway of questioning.†My musical setting follows Whitman’s exploration, first taking a child’s point of view, expressed with lilting melodies set in a lively compound meter. The entry of the tenor soloist indicates a change of mood to the serious. The first mood returns, leading to a climax on the words “And led forward life…â€, set in 9-part harmony. The mood turns reverent, as the tenor soloist intones: “All goes onward and outward; nothing collapses.†The piece ends with a tone of gentle, slightly ironic questioning. -David ConteDuration: 5:42

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1200247 By Kathleen Ryan. By Kathleen Ryan. Classical,New Age,Romantic Period. Score. 9 pages. Indigo Mesa Music LLC #799047. Published by Indigo Mesa Music LLC (A0.1200247). “On the western prairie, nestled against a hill, there is an unexpected forest: shade and water abound. Travelers on the Oregon Trail rested here before returning to the treacherous journey. One summer that forest was all I dreamed of.†~ Kathleen RyanAdvanced technique: a very challenging solo with a rewarding breadth of expression. What the Stars Saw on the Prairie has been called a “three-handed†piece: in its most difficult section the LH plays the bass, the RH plays an upper descant, and the melody is split between both hands in the middle register of the piano. The first recording engineer who heard this piece (but who could not see into the studio) believed that Kathleen had recruited an extra person to play with her. The music truly fits two hands, as long as both hands are willing to move around quite a lot!

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1301662 By Christina Rossetti. By Gustav Holst. Arranged by Nick Luna. A Cappella,Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday,Jazz. 8 pages. Nick Luna Music #891272. Published by Nick Luna Music (A0.1301662). This has long been one of my absolute favorite carols. I fell in love with it while singing with the Dickens Carolers of Seattle. This along with countless other caroling classics have such a wonderful sense of harmonic movement that support lovely melodies. I wanted to lean into the melodic and allow rich harmony to unfold. This arrangement is quite challenging, with plenty of intricate harmonies and sonorities and a diverse array of stylistic influences. It will take an intermediate to advanced choir to pull it off. Range is not too challenging, with the lowest bass note an F2 and the highest soprano note is an F5.  This is a blissful and serene arrangement with some spicy moments to keep things interesting. Perfect for you choir's holiday showcase!

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1106854 By Kanye West. By Jeffrey Bhasker, Kanye West, Malik Jones, Scott Mescudi, Stacy Ferguson, and Warren Trotter. Arranged by Ben Pritchard. Hip-Hop,R & B. Score and parts. 59 pages. Benjamin Pritchard #709718. Published by Benjamin Pritchard (A0.1106854). Your students will love playing this Kanye West favorite (which includes the interlude)! This arrangment is in the original key of Bb-minor. I found that the kids really enjoy playing along with the original Kanye West recording. The drum groove is complex and integral to the arrangement. There are also electric bass, synthesizer, and drum machine parts to make it sound more authentic. The band must have solid lead trumpet and drum set players. There are optional percussion parts, however, that break the full drum set up into separate parts, but will still sound authentic.

It is unquestionably one of the most passionate orchestral pieces he has ever written. In the A part, the music is busy. Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1011293 Composed by Ho Jie Rong. Contemporary,Standards. 5 pages. Ho Jie Rong #5794107. Published by Ho Jie Rong (A0.1011293). I am a Singaporean pianist and composer. I have studied the piano since 5 years old under Mr Joseph Toh and I graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts with a Diploma in Music in 2013, majoring in Music Composition under Malaysian composer Mr Chong Kee Yong and Singaporean composer Mrs Joyce Koh Bee TuanAbout The Destruction of a Twinkling StarThis piece is written for Violin and Piano.Ever wondered what happen to a star when it explodes? I decided to write a short fantasia about this phenomenon. I decided to use the very famous opening of the Mozart’s Ah vous dirai-je maman Variations for this piece. A very sweet sounding opening to a devastated effect. I have decided to use a pretty unconventional notation. I think a star is full of mystery, and you always get surprises when you improvise. In my music, I like to try new things! And of course, despite new things, I will always use back my own prestige extracts from some of my works. I have used an almost similar notation in my Sky 2 for piano solo, and the last movement of the Six Improvisatory Pieces for solo piano. The interval between the highest and the lowest pitch of the Mozart’s Variations is a Major 6th. To get the intended transcription into my work, I cut the keyboard into 6 different ranges. Because the range of the violin is not as big as the piano, I cut the violin into 3 different ranges. If want will to realize, Mozart uses all 6 notes of the opening C major scale, and hence, I transcribe it into chord clusters into my work.  The Destruction of a Twinkling Star is dedicated to my friends Miss Lee Xin Yee and Mr Kelvin Koh.
