Pierre-Claude-François BOUILLON (18??-1883) was the principal conductor of the Cirque Fernando,  the famous circus of the Belle Époque who inspired many impressionist artists, such as Renoir, Degas,  Toulouse-Latrec and Georges Seurrat, whose masterpiece “Le Cirqueâ€� was inspired by this Circus.   Bouillon was a very prolific compposer, writing many works for solo instrument and piano, marches,  galops, waltzs, polkas and other dances. These works were intended to illustrate the various numbers  presented during performances..Papillon is a theme and variations which begins with a lyrical introduction. The main theme (letter C) is in the form of a popular French romance. Vale la pena ahondar un poco sobre esto último. En los tradicionales dúos y tríos de punto cubano y son montuno generalmente se utilizaban dos guitarras, o una guitarra y otro instrumento de cuerdas. Un músico tocaba la llamada guitarra prima, o sea, los tonos agudos, como es el caso de Miguel Matamoros en su trío, mientras que un segundo guitarrista ‘bordoneaba’, es decir, marcaba los tonos bajos, como hacía Rafael Cueto con sus famosos ‘tumbaos’ en el Trío Matamoros. Over the past couple of years I have written a number of film music transcriptions on and for the organ of the Royal Albert Hall in London. While the transcriptions are written with this organ in mind, often calling for specific colours such as the bass drum, carillons or tubular bells, they are adaptable on a number of different instruments and I’ve loved tweaking them in order to play them on organs all across the world. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them! When I was a teenager, my dad and brother would often choose the films we’d watch. When they chose Pirates of the Caribbean I was a bit sceptical at first because I thought it might be too scary, but I quickly fell in love with the film and its soundtrack – it became my favourite film series and I ended up listening to the soundtrack almost every day on the walk to and from school. In the films, the character of Davy Jones plays an iconic organ on his ship, the Flying Dutchman – I think it’s one of the most well-known organ references in contemporary cinema, and so it is one of my most requested pieces. I I also love the fact that Hans Zimmer includes a little nod to Bach’s Toccata in D minor, another piece which sits at the top of my request list. In the film, the start and end of this piece is played by a musical locket, perfectly replicated by the Celeste stop on the organ, although if a Celeste stop isn’t available then a soft 8’ flute would do the job!  - Anna Lapwood.

The mother was unmarried and ashamed and tried to ignore the child as if it were a reproach to her, the child became autistic and unable to react to others.  This setting for alto voice, cello and guitar reflect the mood of the poem in all its sadness.  The sound sample is a performance by the composer, with Chris Benson on cello.  (The guitar's 6th string is tuned to D - much use is made of 12th and 19th (or 7th if preferred) fret harmonics)  The pdf file contains score and parts.  An instrumental version of the the music, entitled Promenade d'hiver (viola, cello and guitar), is also available on this site. The resulting affect action is described as rage or fury, combined with a state of mind of uncontrolled excitement in the sense of being beside oneself or out of one's senses.The personification of these affects was in Greek and Roman mythology with the trio of vengeance goddesses, the Erinyens (Latin furia) called: Alekto (the incessant, the never resting), Megaira (German: Megäre, the envious anger) and Tisiphone (the Vengeance avenging the murder, represented with a dog's head and bat's wings), and another, that of Nemesis (the reconciling justice).
