Si tratta di una breve composizione dal linguaggio tonale armonico con alcune escursioni verso toni estranei alla tonalità del sistema, ma tutto nel limite e nel rispetto dell'ascoltatore che non viene assolutamente attaccato con un'armonia troppo dissonante. Il Preludio e il Finale sono caratterizzati da piccoli elementi virtuosistici. L'andante ha un percorso molto cantabile, dove l'esecutore può mettere in risalto tutta la sua musicalità. Infine, lo Scherzo ha un carattere giocoso e scivola via senza particolari difficoltà. Nella partitura ho preferito scrivere solo le indicazioni dinamiche e lasciare libero il campo all'esecutore per la scelta dei registri e la scelta su quali manuali eseguire i brani.

Next, the diminished chords and misaligned text paint a picture of a disenfranchised group, together longing for the same relief. In a frenzied turnaround, the music climbs to a diatonic apex, immediately drifting back to the familiar tonality of the top of the piece, and closing with a dark, mistrusting 'Amen'. Take time with the fermatas and ritards, and really lean into the dynamics of this short, dramatic composition. - Zach WellsZach Wells lives in Dallas, Texas, where he is an Associate Director of Music at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. (letteralmente: Cosa faremo con un/il marinaio ubriaco?).Questo canto di lavoro nacque per accompagnare certi lavori a bordo di velieri, specialmente quelli che richiedevano un passo svelto e vivace. Si pensa che il canto risalga ai primi del XIX secolo o anche prima, in un periodo nel quale le ciurme delle barche, specialmente quelle dei vascelli militari, erano sufficientemente numerose da poter tirare una corda semplicemente marciando lungo il ponte. Con l'avvento delle navi postali e i clipper e le loro ciurme ridotte, che richiedevano differenti metodi di lavoro, l'uso di questo canto è progressivamente scemato o è passato all'accompagnamento di lavori meno faticosi.Drunken Sailor è poi divenuta una canzone popolare fra i non-marinai nel XX secolo, fino a essere considerata uno dei canti marinareschi più conosciuti dal pubblico. Questa celebre Ave Maria risale molto probabilmente al XVI secolo ed è tradizionalmente attribuita al compositore franco-fiammingo Jacques (o Jacob) Arcadelt (1505-1568) che fu anche magister puerorum (cioè: direttore del coro delle voci bianche) e successivamente maestro del coro della Cappella Sistina in Roma. In realtà, questo brano – nella versione che noi conosciamo e con le parole del saluto angelico – fu edito per la prima volta nel 1842 da Pierre-Louis Philippe Dietsch (1808 - 1865), un oscuro e modesto compositore francese, che riprendeva la chanson profana a tre voci Nous voyons que les hommes, questa sì composta da Jacques Arcadelt per sole voci femminili ed apparsa per la prima volta a stampa nel 1554 in Tiers livre de chansons, nouvellement mises en musique à quatre, presso l’editore Le Roy & Ballard, in Parigi. La parte del basso, in particolare, è interamente lavoro di Dietsch che ne ha anche modificato l’assetto ritmico per adattarlo al nuovo testo, e ha aggiunto la cadenza plagale con la parola conclusiva Amen. Vari musicisti, in seguito, si sono cimentati sia nel modificare le linee di battuta, sia le durate di alcune note, sia la stessa divisione delle sillabe, per tentare  di correggere quello che è considerato lo stress della parola latina.
