If a male artist sang the original, the key is usually too high. If the original featured a female artist, the key is often too low. And worse yet, so many worship songs start low and then jump an octave higher, making congregational participation a challenge.  Cornerstone is a song that has some of these problems. Michael Ware’s arrangement fixes these issues, allowing the average singer in the pew more opportunity to participate. The vocal range of the melody is reduced to less than an octave while preserving the spirit and feel of the original. Each of my arrangements is made for a specific student, so the results will vary in terms of playing level. Most decisions are based on their current skills and abilities, or where I would like for them to be when they complete the piece. This arrangement was made for an early intermediate student currently working on Federation class Elementary 4. It has a lot of tricky moments, but remembering to keep RH 4 constantly returning to the G# will help solve a lot of issues. This arrangement is a little different than others of the same song. My student really enjoyed playing the little improv section so it was worth it. This is a great piece to experiment with the pedal, which should be used lightly and mostly for color until the dolce section.Pedaling and fingering suggestions are included.

This one-handed instrument was familiar to composers such as JS Bach, Handel, Telemann, Purcell, Vivaldi etc., but was largely neglected after the invention of valves in the early 19th century - and the subsequent invention of the nodal vent-hole systems in the late 20th-century - until recently, when the elusive lost art of clarino playing (in the fourth octave and above) was cracked by dedicated optimists such as Don L Smithers and JF Madeuf. These arrangements are a stylistic departure from the trumpet's golden age of Baroque repertoire, featuring works well known in the 20th century, and provide excellent training for rhythmic precision, style, pitching and team playing. They're also fun, if you like that sort of thing. Advice on tuning up the differently-pitched instruments and a technical tip are included. The current regulations on SMP mean us little guys can only publish in-copyright works one at a time. So, you can collect them all and make yourself a tome!  These arrangements were originally written for Lunchtime Tower Music (weather permitting), at the Dartington International Summer School between roughly 2000 and 2010, for courses led by Michael Laird and David Staff. Such performances from the mediæval clock tower involved the various brass and other wind classes playing seriously with an informal atmosphere. Logistical issues, a narrow staircase and the ubiquitous Health-and-Safety regulations prevented the use of timpani on the tower but sometimes larger groups, and those involving vertigo sufferers, played in the courtyard instead. These pieces are the opposite of playing Baroque music on modern, or postmodern instruments. Get them all now and enjoy a refreshing change! Enjoy! DM

This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs will be in 6 or more parts.Ecco vicine o bella Tigre is a duet for two tenors, The title translates as The time is near, beautiful tigress . In it, the poet is sad that his lover must leave him and he is telling her he longs to be with her wherever she goes. (It's all lies, of course!)I decided to use two euphoniums/baritones for the soloists, with the accompaniment managed by 2 cornets/trumpets, a horn and a tuba.The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.)Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.

While it was composed in a traditional ABA structure, there are many elements in this composition which are not at all traditional. As the piece awakens, the oboes and flutes seem innocent and coquettish. As orchestral participation grows, one has the sense of an entire field of rich colors growing before our very ears. Enter the piano. Simple, elegant and romantic. Softly supported by the strings, the piano issues an invitation to the winds. They respond cautiously, obviously curious to see what this charming piano has in mind. The strings express an opinion. It's not what the piano wants and he presses harder. The strings and winds question each other, back and forth with triplets. Who is this piano? The mid-section is an announcement by the strings that a love relationship may be in the cards. The piano replies with passion and tenderness.With eighth notes, the strings become entangled with the piano, counseling it, guiding it. The winds using triplets put their two cents on the table. They're not so sure. The piano makes a passionate plea; the strings are supportive. The piano and the winds have a conversation. They finally dance together. In the end,.Appassionato is a musical expression of the struggle over whether or not love is worth the risk Sometimes in conflict sometimes in harmony, the piano and winds do unite. Passion has won.

Your accompanist will like the way the pizzicato rhythmic figures in the string section have been fleshed out with notes on strong beats to help make the rhythm fit the hand better.Of course, it would be a great show-piece for social and civic events; its inspiring message would even serve in church-related functions. It may take a bit longer to get all of it under the fingers, as anything worth showing off would demand. Claude Debussy was, by all accounts, totally devoted to his daughter Claude-Emma (affectionately known as Chouchou) The suite Children's Corner (for solo piano) is dedicated to Chouchou. She outlived her father by scarcely a year, succumbing to the diphtheria epidemic of 1919. (with information from Wikipedia). The naming of one or two among Debussy's piano works can raise issues in the light of current trends. These were not an issue during the composer's life, but are unlikely to be ignored today. The word Golliwog may have unwanted implications, but its omission may cause confusion with another of the composer's short piano works known simply as Cakewalk. The cakewalk was a dance developed from the prize walks (dance contests with a cake awarded as the prize) held in the mid-19th century, generally at get-togethers on Black slave plantations before and after emancipation in the Southern United States.... It was originally a processional partner dance danced with comical formality, and may have developed as a subtle mockery of the mannered dances of white slaveholders. Following an exhibition of the cakewalk at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the cakewalk was adopted by performers in minstrel shows, where it was danced exclusively by men until the 1890s. At that point, Broadway shows featuring women began to include cakewalks, and grotesque dances became very popular across the country. [Wikipedia] The grotesque aspect of some later cakewalk dance steps may well be heard in the accompaniment to this work: the oboist's endeavors to produce a soft low B-natural (!) will help create this effect.Technically this piece is intermediate, but the range of the bassoon (especially), oboe, and (to a lesser extent) horn parts are an additional challenge for those players.
