By using the unconventional combination of alto flute and bassoon, Hoodoos 1 seeks to create impressions of the color, space, and magnitude of the vista, while it expands the chamber music repertoire for those instruments.This work is a suitable chamber work for advanced players. It features some extended techniques including pitch bending, sliding, and quarter-tones in both instrumental parts, and a percussive effect in the bassoon part. Sweetwater Brass Press #4111581. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808688).     Henry Clay Work, Civil War era song writer and abolitionist, composed Kingdom Coming in 1862. Chicago’s Root & Cady published it in April of that year, Christy’s Minstrels premiered it and it became enormously popular.    The lyrics to Kingdom Coming, also known as The Year of Jubilo, were written as though slaves in the Confederacy were celebrating their upcoming freedom. However, the song was actually released eight months before President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Interestingly, Kingdom Coming also gained popularity in the South. A Southern edition was published in August in 1864, and the song remained a favorite in the former Confederacy for some years.     Kingdom Coming has been used as theme or background music in a number of film, television and radio settings. Almost certainly its most popular iteration in modern times was the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra’s 1952 recording under the title Doodletown Fifers.    This arrangement is a show-off piece for each member of the quintet. It moves along at a brisk pace of about 108, begins in the key of C and changes to A-flat, then B-flat. The first time through the melody, all instruments perform ensemble. Each succeeding repetition features an instrumentalist, starting with tuba and working up to Trumpet 1. The piece ends with another ensemble version.    There are no exceptionally out-of-normal-playing-range notes: Trumpets 1 and 2 both play their B-flat below the scale several times, and Trumpet 2 plays G below the scale; Horn in F also plays its G below the scale; Trombone’s range is G at the bottom of the scale to D above the scale; Tuba’s lowest note is A-flat below the scale. Trumpet 1 will probably triple tongue its repetition of the melody, and some triple tonguing may be called for near the end of the piece for Trumpets 1 and 2 and Trombone.    This arrangement was completed in 2018, and performance time runs just under 4 minutes. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844467). Many years ago I was on a judging panel to select winning song entries to mark the United Nations World Peace Celebration. I remember being quite disappointed in the majority of entries because the lyrics proceeded to list all the current world conflicts and their proposed solutions. It made for overly long, and ultimately boring, songs. I was haunted by those entries when I went home that night. I lied in bed and thought all I wanted to hear was.... Finally, at a sleepless 2 a.m., I got up and went to the piano and wrote this piece as a response to that. (That line from my tortured dream; all I ever wanted even made it into the song.).   I set it for TTBB voices to provide a closer, tighter harmony to indicate the brotherhood I was dreaming of. Its simplicity and extreme brevity are no doubt knee jerk reactions to the long, boring pieces I heard all day. This piece has been in my drawer for two decades because I thought it was too brief to be of any practical value for anyone, but all attempts I made to lengthen it seemed to spoil it. But it remains one of my favorite and most passionate pieces that I have written, so I have decided to post it 'as is' and let you creative types decide how to use it. Enjoy!. In addition, the work is a vocal articulation exercise for singers. It consists of three brief parts, the first two with texts of two haiku and the third based on a Sansa-daiko dance, a dance for taiko drums that is learned by memorizing certain syllables that represent the text of the latter piece. The rhythm is literally that of the dance itself but that melodically is embedded in pentatonic scales just like the two previous pieces.For the management of copyright the work is registered with the SGAE (Copyright Management Society of Spain) The score contains the data of the work and the composer for the management of Rights.The author will appreciate being informed of any interpretation of the work.------------Haiku es una obra divertida que compuse como un estudio vocal para coro. La intención era hacer que los coros trabajasen las escalas pentatónicas. Además la obra es un ejercicio de articulación vocal para los cantantes. Está formada por tres breves partes, las dos primeras con textos de dos haiku y la tercera basada en una danza Sansa-daiko, una danza para tambores taiko que se aprende mediante la memorización de determinadas sílabas que suponen el texto de esta última pieza. El ritmo es literalmente el de la propia danza pero que melódicamente está encajada en unas escalas pentatónicas igual que las dos piezas precedentes.El autor agradecería se le comunicase cualquier interpretación de la obra.

The opera opens with the former Czar lamenting his fall from power and precarious circumstances. His wife, Anexandra, consoles him and they sing of their undying love in the duet, One Love Forever.One by one, the children awake and join them on stage. Anastasia dramatically portrays a dream she has just had. Then, in an upbrat song of hope she explains her optimistic outlook in My Name Is Anastasia. The ensemble joins her at the end, assuring one another they will all soon be rising up to life again. To while away the time, the family pretends they are at the French Ambassador's New Year's Ball.At the height of the ensuing waltz, Comrade Sladislav, Captain of the Red Guard, and a band of revolutionary guards burst it. Sladislav harangues Nicholas and the family. Then, in the vindictive Song of the Revolution, he extols the greatness of la Révolution as the family watches in fear. Nicholas and Alexandra remind each other of their one love forever and the children look for dawn in darkest night. The Captain then marches the family down to the cellar (off-stage), ostensibly to await transport. Thus trapped, they are easy prey for the revolvers of Sladislav and his men. The self-satisfies revolutionary reemerges and makes his closing statements before exiting.Scored for piano and percussion. Katrina is a piece I wrote after the historic category 5 hurricane that made landfall on the coast of Louisiana on August 25, 2005, carrying winds up to 175 mph, causing over 1,800 fatalities and $125 billion in damage. It's a piece I dedicated to my father who was there and lived through it. I tried to capture moments throughout the storm, glimpses through the music, though it is difficult given the immenseness of this massive, destructive storm. The piece begins with swirling winds and a sense of dread and anticipation. The wind begins to pick up, then pauses briefly as the rain begins to fall in rhythmic raindrops. Soon the rain picks up and is joined with the growing fierce winds, building to a peak. The storm begins to calm, followed with the piano playing the final raindrops as they slow and then stop. The piano plays alone as the skies open up and the sun breaks through at the end. The piece includes a full score, flute 1 & 2, oboe, cello, claves and optional rainstick, and a separate piano part (easier to read). Total of 17 pages.
