Alto Saxophone,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.533347

Composed by Ali Ben Sou Alle, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Paul Wehage. Concert,Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 22 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #2348197. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533347).

One of the most enigmatic figures in the history of the Saxophone, Ali Ben Sou Alle (Charles-Valentin Soualle) was born in 1820 in Arras, France. After receiving his first prize in Clarinet at the Paris Conservatory in 1844. he served as the director of
music of The French Marine Band in Senegal, and then was named first clarinet solo at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. However, after the Revolution of 1848, Soualle was forced to flee France to England where he settled in London, playing in the Orchestra of the Queen's Theatre. His songs and piano pieces were published in London. While in London, Soualle met another exiled French musician, Louis Antoine Jullien, who conducted a light music series in London. Jullien encouraged Soualle to take up the saxophone, and after modifying the instrument by adding a single octave mechanism (the modern system used today) and keys for the lower register, Soualle became known as a virtuoso and began touring performing solo recitals (or mono-concerts, as they were called at the time) calling his modified saxophone the «turcophone ». He performed in all the European capitals and then traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Manilla, Java, through China and then to India where he finally settled in Mysore, becoming the director of the Royal Music for the Maharadjah. It was during this period that he converted to Islam and changed his nmae to Ali ben Sou Alle (or Ali, son of Soualle). He subsequently travaled to Ile Maurice, to French Polynesia, the Cap of Natal and the Cap of Good Hope. All of these voyages were subjects of musical works which Soualle entitled Souvenirs de... and may perhaps have been part of a collection known as The Royal Album which was presented to the Prince of Wales after a royal concert. Soualle returned to Mysore in 1858 and was almost killed in the Indian Revolution. Around 1860, Soualle returned to France for health reasons and began publishing his own music. On March 27 1865, he performed a command performance for the Emperor Napoleon III at the Tuileries Palace in the presence of the entire Imperial Family. After 1865, nothing more is known about him. Soualle not only performed on the clarinet, saxophone and piano, but also frequently sang during his concerts. He also wrote songs while he was in London. His opera fantasies are usually written for the Alto saxophone and are generally in the form of an introductory aria with cadenza, a theme with one or more variations and then a final waltz movement in rondo form with a final brillant variation. This specific work opens with motives from the Opera‘s overture, leading to Donna Anna’s 1st act aria Or sai, chi l'onore. The duet Là ci darem la mano is the subject of two variations followed by a brief interlude using Zerlina’s aria Batti, batti, o bel Masetto and then the final section is the duo Andiam’ Andiam ‘ Mio Bene between Don Giovanni and Zerlina which ends the Act I duet. The work ends with a brillant coda

By Bobby McFerrin. By Bobby McFerrin. Arranged by Ricardo Matosinhos. Jazz. Score and parts. 32 pages. Ricardo Matosinhos #5723941. Published by Ricardo Matosinhos (A0.899162).

This is a well known piece by Bobby McFerrin. Here presented on a music arrangement for unconventional music instruments. The arrangement allows flexibility, so this piece can be performed using tuned bottles (25cl, 33cl and 75cl), lip whistle, finger snaps, complemented with xylophones and optionally with voices to sing the lyrics too. This arrangement was made during the 2020 quarantine, when the world was shutdown due to a world virus pandemic. Some of the music students didn’t have their music instruments at home, so this arrangement came up to fill that gap and it is perfect to keep doing music with the available option of instruments.

On each rehearsal letter, you can play optional improvisations, while keeping the voices 5-8. These improvisations can be easily done using the C major pentatonic scale or the note ranges presented on the right, that even include Eâ™ and Bâ™. If played using lip whistle, bendings will be possible too. This arrangement presents 8 voices and an alternative solution for voice 8, that makes it easier to be performed as it is the place where bottles are divided between the players. There is also an optional bass line to complement voice eight one octave bellow. In order to keep it simple, neither dynamics or articulations were included and the notes were represented always in the middle octave in G clef. The correct pitch ranges are presented in the performance notes.

The amount of water will change the pitch differently depending if you are blowing or doing percussion on a bottle. When blowing, the more water you use, the higher the pitch will be, but while doing percussions more water means lower pitch. A good option, in order to save time during rehearsals, is to fill the bottles with water, marking the level with a pen, and then filling the bottle with the desired amount of hot wax instead of water. This way, when the wax cools down you can have a tuned bottle without requiring to tune it again every single rehearsal. Please note that the bottles should be made of glass and that different aspects change the performance. For percussion, straight bottles are better to tune as the curves in the bottles tend to produce unstable pitches. The extreme notes of the range might not be available in every single bottle, so you might need to try some alternatives. For example the high A is available in some beer bottles, while the low G is available in larger 75cl bottles of champaign. Last but not least, this piece should always be played according to Bobby’s motto: dont worry, be happy!

I had lots of fun while doing this arrangement, now it’s your time to have fun while performing it!

Composed by Lyndon Smith. Jazz,Latin. Score and parts. 2 pages. Lyndon Smith Jr. #5869123. Published by Lyndon Smith Jr. (A0.1026124).

This is a lead sheet for an original bossa nova/jazz piece. The title, Não Sei Porque (I Don't Know Why...), is a nod to the Brazilian origins of the bossa nova style. The translation of said title is in parentheses. The piece is intended to be performed at approximately 135 bpm. It's a lively piece that can be performed in and arranged for any context in which you might perform any jazz standard. A variety of ensembles from high school to professional levels could perform it to a very warm reception. The audio file is my attempt at a standard big band arrangement. It was done in Finale 25 with instruments from Garritan's JABB 3 software. The interlude section is intended to be played after every solo in a manner similar to the way A Night in Tunisia is sometimes played. This isn't required of course. It's jazz! Improvise! Composed by Wage Rudolf Supratman (1903-1938). Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contemporary. Score and parts. 36 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #3471763. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522144).

Colin Kirkpatrick’s
National Anthems Express

INDONESIA: Indonesia Raya

This quick and easy national anthem arrangement is essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. You can play it with any virtually any combination of instruments: symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything! This arrangement is in six independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys. For the most satisfying sound you’ll need to get a good balance between each part possibly with an emphasis on the melodic line. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick 'n' mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment. This arrangement consists of a four-page score with seven instrumental staves and three percussion staves. The following parts are printed on separate pages. The score and all the parts are contained in the same pdf file.

Part 1 in B flat (clarinet, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, soprano sax); Part 1 in C (oboe, violin); Part 1 in E flat (alto sax, E flat clarinet); Part 1a in C (octave above concert for flute, piccolo, oboe, violin) and Part 1a in E flat (E flat cornet in brass band).

Part 2 in B flat (clarinet, trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, soprano sax); Part 2 in C (violin); Part 2 in E flat (alto sax); Part 2a in C (octave above concert pitch) flute, oboe, violin); Part 2a in B flat for clarinets; Part 2a in E flat (minor 3rd below concert for E flat alto clarinet).

Part 3 in B flat (tenor saxophone, B flat baritone); Part 3 in C (bass clef for trombone, bassoon); Part 3 in C alto (alto clef for viola); Part 3 in E flat    (tenor horn, alto sax); Part 3 in F (French horn); Part 3a in B flat (8ve below concert for 3rd clarinets in band).

Part 4 in B flat (tenor sax, baritone); Part 4 in C (bass clef for trombone, euphonium, bassoon, cello); Part 4 in E flat (tenor horn); Part 4 in F (French horn).

Part 5 in B flat (baritone); Part 5 in C (bass clef for trombone, euphonium, bassoon.

Part 6 in B flat (B flat bass, bass clarinet); Part 6 in C (bass clef for bass trombone, bassoon, contrabassoon, tuba, double bass); Part 6 in E flat     (E flat bass, baritone sax). There’s also a part for timpani, percussion (3 players) and a piano reduction. The music is presented in pdf files at 1,200 dpi which can produce professional-looking printed copies.

The arranger, Colin Kirkpatrick studied at London’s Royal College of Music and followed a career in music education. He was a High School Music Director for about fifteen years and later became a Music Education Adviser in the UK. He has published a great deal of music and his publishers include Boosey & Hawkes, Novello, Paxton, Schott, Oxford University Press, Chester, Belwin Mills and Intrada (Netherlands). His music has been performed and broadcast all over Europe as well as in Japan, Thailand, Australia and the USA.

Composed by John W. Fisher. Children,Contemporary,Easter,Instructional,Praise & Worship. Score. 4 pages. John Fisher #994437. Published by John Fisher (A0.1412196).

Sweetly Sang the Donkey is a sermon song from the Palm Sunday Sermon  2024 of Dr. Paul de Jong at First Presbyterian Church Fort Myers Florida.  The text is found in each of the four gospels, but on this day the sermon was from Mark 11:1-11 and the donkey was stressed.  In my mind, I thought of the children's song Sweetly Sings the Donkey and I extended it with bits of The Eentsy Weentsy Spider.  Of course it had to be in the key of Dmajor,  The bass provided consists of only two chords: Dmajor and Amajor7.  It tells the story of the procession on Palm Sunday and  like Balaam's donkey, the doneky carrying Jesus is given the gift of speaking. It contrasts the crowds that on Sunday wave Palms branches and  later in the week wave their fists demanding the crucifiction of Jesus.  It brings in the interesting note that Solomon, son of David, also rode a donkey.  This is a fun children's choir song with a very deep message.

Composed by Christopher R. Brown. Christian,Gospel,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score and parts. 83 pages. Christopher Brown #4756795. Published by Christopher Brown (A0.747214).

About the song: In Psalm 22:22, David writes, I will praise You to all my brothers; I will stand up before the congregation and testify to the wonderful things You have done. Again, in Psalm 66:16, the psalmist says, Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what He did for me. Jesus, after healing a man with a demon, commands the man to go home... and report the great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you. The testimony of a life changed by God's love and His great mercy is a powerful tool for both spreading the Good News and resisting temptation. It is good for us to remember and proclaim, both personally and collectively, the great things the Lord has done.

Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by Albert Schwarzmann. 19th Century,Romantic Period. 284 pages. Edition Schwalbe #1066538. Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1489666).

An der schönen blauen Donau  (The Blue Danube) is known all over the world and every year a fixed encore at the New Year's Concert of  the Vienna Philharmonic broadcasted in most countries of the world. Previous to the orchestra version it was premiered on 15 February 1867  in a separate version with male-choir. So it is a real challenge to create an arrangement of this famous piece, which may dare a comparison  with the original. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first  time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January  2019 in the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. I Don't Want to Miss a Thing is a song recorded by American hard rock band Aerosmith as the theme song for the 1998 science fiction disaster film Armageddon. The power ballad was written by Diane Warren. The song received its airplay premiere on May 12, 1998, and was officially added to radio a week later. I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, in the United States, was originally supposed to be a radio-only single from Armageddon: The Album, but due to popular demand, Columbia Records issued the song commercially in August 1998. It subsequently debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the band their first and only number-one single in their home country, remaining at the top for four weeks. The song was nominated for an Oscar as Best Original Song at the 71st Academy Awards of 1998, but lost to When You Believe from The Prince of Egypt.
