Everyone thought he was insane but my grandmother did not think so since he always carried poetry writings and artworks with him wherever he went. My grandmother befriended him and during one of their conversations on the street he told her that he spent his life writing poems, drew portraits of the women he loved, and acknowledges that “life is nothing but a dream”. One day this homeless man disappeared and it wasn’t until a few weeks later that he was rumoured to have passed away one rainy night inside an abandoned house which was his childhood home. This piece intends to describe that man’s thoughts and feelings during his final moments: his lifetime memories, his final acceptance, and true inner peace before saying goodbye to this world.

I chose this text of the Mass of Requiem because of its simplicity not devoid of innocence and considered it suitable for the technical and expressive goodness of this formation. In this way I created this Pie Jesu in which the serene character of homophonies that progress as melodies demanding from the whole a perfect tuning and timbre homogeneity in all registers, without neglecting a subtle dynamic and expressive nuance. For the management of copyright the work is registered with the SGAE (Copyright Management Society of Spain) The score contains the data of the work and the composer for the management of Rights. British born Godfrey Barnsley was determined to construct his home on an acorn shaped hill in northwest Georgia despite being warned by his Cherokee neighbors that the land he chose to build on was sacred and that he would be cursed. He built the Italianate style house anyway and sadly many tragedies followed. One was the death of his close friend Col. Richard G. Earle who was killed by a Union sniper in May of 1864 as he rode in to warn the family of the approach of Sherman’s army. Col. Earle was laid to rest in the garden just steps from the back door. Years later the home was abandoned after the roof was torn off by a tornado… it quickly fell into ruins. Today, the lush English style garden and surroundings (but not the house) have been restored to their previous splendor and the site is frequently used for elegant weddings and social events. This musical impression of Godfrey Barnsley’s enchanted garden was released as a single on streaming platforms in July of 2024. The PDF includes detailed fingerings and interpretation in standard notation with tablature. There’s also a version with TAB available on this site. It was inspired by a trip to the Lake District in the North West of England in 2000. The landscape is beautiful and we were blessed with wonderful weather and good friends. Although the piece is continuous, there are distinct sections that cover my impressions of the countryside at different points. These are labelled in the score and parts: The Mountains, Airforce Fly Past, The Ramblers, A Brief Downpour, Windermere, Scafell Pike, Haverthwaite Railway, An Abandoned Farm, The Celtic Influence, Helvellyn and Mr Jeremy Fisher. The piece concludes with a final, brief glimpse of the mountains.Mr Jeremy Fisher refers, of course, to the Beatrix Potter character who was nearly eaten by a fish.This would make an excellent own-choice test piece and, at just over 10 minutes, would make a good piece in an entertainment contest programme.
