This hymn was transcribed by ear (no sheet music) by the arranger from listening to a Gather Vocal Band rendition, which YouTube rendition is attached.  It was done more than a decade ago, and I'm sure I could not do it at my present age!The arrangement is for 4 part male harmony  (TTBB) a cappella.  It has some very close harmony.

This full version is arranged as a duet for Flute and Violin and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. It is the 10th movement of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. It was written during Bach's first year in Leipzig, Germany. Bach did not compose the melody. That was written by Johann Schop. Bach only harmonized and orchestrated Schop's melody. A transcription of Jesu was done by English pianist Myra Hess (1890-1965), and was published in 1926 for solo piano.In 1934, Hess' version was adapted for piano duet. British organist Peter Hurford made a transcription of Jesu for organ. Today, Bach's piece is often performed at weddings and funerals. Bach wrote the piece for voices with trumpet, oboes, strings and continuo. Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is one of Bach's most enduring pieces of music.This song has an Intermediate Level of difficulties and can serve as a new step forward in the training of a musician.

These three dramatic but humorous episodes in the life of the great king, to texts by Thackeray and the composer, tell us first of all how the elderly King Canute was tiring of life as, no longer young, he even yawned while his favourite male voice choir was performing. The second movement tells of all the victories he had won - but, as the third movement tells us, there was one thing left to do - conquer the sea!  Sadly, however, the sea disobeyed his commands, and 'King Canute is dead and gone, but the legend still lives on'. The story is untrue, of course, but if it happened, though it probably didn't, it would have been in the vicinity of the Battle of Ashingdon, near to the town of South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, UK - where the songs were first performed by the South Woodham Ferrers Male Voice Choir. A Suite for British Style Brass Band which was chosen as the 4th Section Test Piece for the Butlins Mineworkers Brass Band Championships 2015 in Skegness, UK. Each movement is based on a famous French Impressionist painting as follows:1. Boulevard Montmarte (Pissarro – 1897) The Boulevard Montmartre is one of the four grand boulevards of Paris. This painting gave me the idea of writing a piece to portray a journey in a pony and trap through this busy street scene, starting out serenely in the suburbs, travelling through all the hustle and bustle, before trailing off into the distance.  An all pervasive Poulenc mouvement perpetual accompaniment style is present throughout this movement. 2. Lac d'Annecy  (Cézanne - 1896) Although marked Waltz triste (sad waltz), the mood of the music is rather reflective in nature. This movement is the longest of the five and I would not recommend it being played too slow. Stylistically, it is a characteristic accordion piece, so touches of rubato here and there wouldn’t be out of keeping.  3. La Cathédrale de Rouen  (Monet - 1894) This is the most difficult movement to play in respect of intonation, with lots of unisons, octaves and parallel intervals. The opening should be a true piano in order to allow the piece grow. The plainsong statements should be played smoothly and with plenty of air.  4. Les Parapluies  (Renoir - 1884) A jaunty, playful theme leading in to a little fugue. A little low in places for the euphoniums and baritones. The music should skip along comfortably without rushing to allow the finer detail to come through.  5. Au Moulin Rouge  (Toulouse-Lautrec - 1895) A lively tempo, always chasing forward without slackening. As in the previous movement, good dynamic contrast, swells and tight precise articulation. Lots of work for everyone, especially the baritones and euphoniums. Take care that the mf dynamic of the 'bass solo' is not overdone. If needs must, the siren whistle could be substituted with a referee's whistle, but I would like my duck call! The champagne cork 'pops' are really more visual than audible, however, it would be advisable for more of the band to join in,  as required.

Inspired by the true story of the ancient greek statue - 'DANCING SATYR' (in Mazara del Vallo) - discovered by fishermen off the coast of Sicily in 1998 after having lain on the Mediterranean ocean floor for over 2,000 years. Following five years of careful refurbishment in Rome's 'Istituto Centrale per il Restauro' this amazing bronze statue, probably from the school of Praxiteles, was restored almost to its former glory with its head and torso remaining largely intact, incredibly! The 'Dancing Satyr' was then taken on a global tour, including Japan and the Louvre in Paris, where it drew very large crowds capturing the world's imagination. It is now housed in a purpose-built museum in Sicily - 'Museo del Satiro'. The first movement - INTRODUZIONE - begins in a neo-Italian Baroque style , with ancient undertones, in homage to the statue's current home where it has received great care and attention. The music then proceeds in a more modern and programmatic vein conjuring the disastrous sinking of the ship carrying this masterpiece in ancient times and its loss to the inky depths below. The second movement - DANZA - is much lighter in mood celebrating its recovery and conveying the joyous expression of the 'Dancing Satyr' with its arched back and head thrown back in ecstatic abandonment, brilliantly portrayed by its original sculptor. Here the musical language is more influenced by the rhythms of Greek folk music while incorporating modern guitar idioms and harmonic concepts as in the first movement.

There is a theory that El grillo refers to Carlo Frillo, a singer who worked for the same patron as Josquin, Cardinal Galeazzo Sforza, and that it was intended to remind the prelate that his musicians’ salaries were overdue. The Sforzas were apparently notoriously mean to their employees, in spite of (or possibly because of) the fact that one of them was happy to pay a large sum of money for a parrot that could recite the Creed. Certainly the words of this little piece, with their reference to the cricket who sings for love, seem to have a good deal more impact in this sardonic light.
