So, I composed this new re-imagined rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas as a Holiday Hip-Hop Rap choral piece. This is a new dope hip-hop arrangement of the 1780 English Carol Christmas Carol 12 Days of Christmas. It has been modified completely in style, genre, instrumentation, and presentation. Musically, it has also been arranged completely as a hip-hop rap song with appropriate clean urban flavor with solo rap, choral rap support and audience participation with claps and stomps done by audience and choral members, plus rhythm supplied by drum set with deep hip-hop rhythm, plus female beat-box, and male beat-box musical options included if choral director chooses to add that additional hip-hop flavor, plus tubular chime instrument used throughout to provide haunting holiday hip-hop flavor on the DL. The lyrics are clean and suitable for high school choral groups. Additional support lyrics are added to support rap soloist. The tempo and style have been changed to Cool Swag with quarter = 110. Overall, this is a new fun re-imagined rendition of an old classic that high school students and their audiences should also find quite enjoyable. Choreographer should also find this to be a refreshing new project to choreograph.

This is a setting of two old hymn tunes, Retreat and Rockingham, originally arranged as a choral anthem with violin obbligato but here rearranged as a violin solo with piano. It is suitable as prelude or offertory music. The first tune, Retreat, is most commonly found in American hymnbooks for the hymn From Every Stormy Wind that Blows, hence the title, but in the United Kingdom mostly Communion hymns are sung to these melodies. Rockingham is often used as the tune for When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. If the title is to be printed in a church bulletin I recommend using whichever hymn is most familiar in the context as the title! The recording begins at the end of the introduction, in measure 8 - it was done at a youth camp as Chapel Prelude so there is some background noise. It continually comes back to the catchy and syncopated main theme. In the non-A tutti sections, smaller groupings of instruments get a chance to shine (woodwinds, low brass, etc). Playing this piece could also be a great chance to begin teaching students about musical form, with rondo being the easiest to understand. Then you can slap Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca on the speakers and BAM, music history!

Long Road to Georgia is a simple trad jazz tune, written at a time when I felt a longing to be back home (which isn't Georgia, that just had a better ring to it than my actual home).Do check out the recording for a mock-up rendition. The strings are improvised and aren't necessary, but make the song sound a bit sweeter. The last play-through of the tune in the recording is done with other instruments improvising around the tune for a proper Dixieland feel. I wholeheartedly recommend this - it adds so much to the overall feel if you've got other instruments noodling around. The slow, simple chord progression makes this a really good tune for people who are newer to jazz & improvisation.

Tales from the Vienna Woods is the title of a chain of waltzes composed in the ninteenth century by Johann Strauss.  Originally composed for full orchestra, this arrangement for nine instruments was done as a companion piece on a program with the nonet version of the Brahms Serenade I in D major.  Although the arrangement is for single violin, viola, cello, and contrabass, it could be played using a small string orchestra with individual flute, two clarinets, bassoon and horn.  This is music that audiences have loved for over a hundred and fifty years, and it has strong audience appeal to this day.

If the single top Ab is too high for your sopranos, and the altos are willing to sing low  F# it is perfectly possible to sing the whole thing a semitone lower (or even a whole tone if the altos and basses are willing!)The mp3 is for reference only, to show how the words fit  which cannot be done using synthesised sounds alone. Because  the current pandemic prevents a live choir recording  this is a multi-tracked effort, with instrumental bass supplementing the voice. It is functional rather than pleasant!
