When Church Is Out is a piano solo arrangement of the 1897 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  The original song was only 16 bars long.  Inspired by the unique title, I took the melody and reset it as a 4 part gospel church hymn.  Then 'when church is out' I kick up my heels, move the key up a half step, and it becomes a playful driving jazz development concluding with a grandiose Amen.  2 page score; 1:25 minutesThis piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.
