Bass Trombone,Cornet,Horn - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1327861 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Traditional. 6 pages. Jmsgu3 #915873. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1327861). It Came Upon the Midnight Clear is an 1849 poem and Christmas carol written by Edmund Sears, a pastor of the Unitarian Church in Wayland, Massachusetts. The lyrics were set to the tune Carol by Richard Storrs Willis in the United States, while in Commonwealth countries, the lyrics are set to Noel, a later adaptation by Arthur Sullivan from an English melody. The whole song comprises five stanzas, and some versions omit certain verses. Interestingly, the Christmas carol doesn't explicitly mention the birth of the Savior, making it unique among Christmas songs.

This lively combination of I Saw Three Ships and original music and lyrics was written by published, four-time award-winning composer, George Edwin Smith.  The 2:05 minute work is especially appropriate for Christmas or Epiphany.  The first tune and lyrics are from I Saw Three Ships (Come Sailing In), a traditional and popular Christmas carol from England. The earliest printed version of I Saw Three Ships is from the 17th century.  The second tune is original, but the lyrics are adapted from Angels We Have Heard on High, a Christmas carol, with lyrics written by James Chadwick in 1862. This popular American Christmas carol, also known as Luther's Cradle Hymn is an ideal tune for woodwind duet. The gentle rocking eighth note accompaniment provides a cradle-like feel, and with each instrument having equal share of the melody as well as the accompaniment, students and performers are sure to enjoy performing this duet either in the classroom or in a service of worship. The full score comes with two individual parts attached, and be sure to note the hemiola in measures 38-39, leading into the final cadence.
