In 1988 my wife and I were sent by our church to take part in the World Conference on Liturgical Music in Rome at the Vatican.  It was so exciting for us to go on our first trip to the Eternal City!!  We took a taxi to the Vatican and it let us off right within walking distance of St. Peter's Basilica!  It was so overwhelming, exciting, and beautiful all at once; it was almost too much to take in!  After that wonderful week when I returned I set down and began to improvise at the piano to see what I might be able to express about the experience.  What came to me almost immediately was the memory of the sound of chant in that great space!  I came up with a very contemporary combination of old and new in a jazz framework.

Here it is set for SABar choir so that it becomes more accessible to small parish choirs, who may lack tenors and basses. It has five verses, the second and fourth providing an opportunity either for a cappella or for accompanied part singing. The other verses are varied particularly by the piano, although the ending is also in parts.
