Born of an African father, Coleridge-Taylor was an early 20th century English composer and conductor who was an influential advocate for Black composers.  One of Coleridge-Taylor's rare A Cappella compositions, this is arranged for traditional woodwind quintet of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and basson and includes substitute parts clarinet in B-flat for oboe, alto saxophone in E-flat for horn and bass clarinet in B-flat for bassoon.
