Violin Duet Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488280 Composed by William Shield. Arranged by Robert Hoskins. Classical. 59 pages. Artaria Editions #1065168. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1488280). Artaria Editions AE388The London premires of Opp.1 and 2 probably took place at William Napier's morning concerts held at the Thatched House Tavern in St. James's Street. The performers at this venue were gentlemen amateurs backed with some professional assistance (possibly including Shield) and the audience consisted largely of nobility (but not ladies) on their way to court. Napier's concerts were more than a vehicle for airing newly published works or composers, and when it was proposed to revive the series in 1792, the Morning Chronicle of 28 January recalled that they had served to improve the taste and science of the amateur as well as introducing professional merit to the highest patronage. Shield's duets, expressly written with talented amateurs in mind (according to the title-page of Op.2), exactly suited the repertoire of the morning concerts. Both sets of duets are neatly engineered with a violinist's grasp of technique and articultion, and with each part sharing in the musical interest. The prevailing spirit of Op. 1 is Italianate and there are many attractive details to be heard. The amoroso movement of No.1, for example, with its ardent episodes and the hunting rondo of No.2 which begins with the representation of distant horn calls and later depicts a chromatically wounded prey. If the opening of No. 3 gives the impression of an exotic dance, including the audible thrum of a guitar or harp, then the rondo of No.4 can be imagined as a spring song animated with birds and breezes. The opening of No.5 is as propulsive as a theatre overture whilst No.6, written for either violins or flutes, assumes a suitably fluty tone. Op.2 is an altogether more compact set which sharpens the focus on elements already noticed in Op.1. Shield employs a variety of forms including minuet, variations, rondo and canon; and he also adopts vocal styles including lyric song (for the affettuoso movement of No.1) and arioso (for the opening adagio of No.2). The first movement of No. 3 sounds like a mini stage overture whilst the adagio of No. 5 can be heard as a melting duet. Both movements of No. 4 adhere to folk style, incorporating hurdygurdy like figurations and simulated versions of the northern pipe-tunes which Shield himself so avidly collected.  This edition presents as faithfully as possible the intentions of Napier's source. The style and notation of articulation and dynamic markings have been standardised throughout and, where missing, markings have been reconstructed from parallel passages. The notation of appoggiature has also been standardised to minimize confusion. Obvious wrong notes have been corrected without comment; editorial emendations with no authority from the source are placed within brackets.  Robert Hoskins.

SATB chorus - Digital Download SKU: C7.CGA1106 Composed by James E Clemens. General. Mixed Voices. Sacred Anthem. Octavo. 12 pages. Chorister's Guild - Digital #CGA1106. Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGA1106). UPC: 749193012345.Gospel charm emanates from this glorious anthem that brings to life the poignant words of Jesus found in Matthew 6:25-34. Highlighting the images of grassy fields, flowers in springtime, and birds of the air, the anthem reminds us that God's splendor exists in all creation--even in the smallest things. A solid gospel accompaniment provides a magnificent foundation for the rhythmic, graceful tune that's shared between the men and women's vocal parts. The piece makes a great addition to any worship setting or choir festival celebration. Lectionary use: Thanksgiving B; Epiphany 8 [8] A.

3, 4, or 5 octaves handbells - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: C7.CGB972 Wakantanka Taku Nitawa. Composed by Cathy Moklebust. Arranged by Cathy Moklebust. Thanksgiving, General. With Finger cymbals, ankle bells (or sleigh bells), tambourine, buffalo drum (or other American Indian drum). Score. 8 pages. Chorister's Guild - Digital #CGB972. Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGB972). UPC: 749193023075.Uplifting and sweet, this arrangement of The Lord's My Shepherd, I'll Not Want (BROTHER JAMES' AIR) makes use of stirring crescendos and orchestral-sounding sweeping musical lines. The quiet waters of the Psalm 23 text are reflected in the shimmering, peaceful first verse. The second verse gains momentum (My soul He doth restore again) and the powerful crescendo into the third verse brings a confident sense of peace (Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale / yet will I fear no ill). At the final cadence, ethereal, unusual harmonies give way to a serene resolution, symbolizing heaven as a final resting place, calling to mind the last lines of the text: and in God's house forevermore / my dwelling place shall be. The optional flute part sweetens the lovely soft sections and adds flourish and weight to the majestic third verse and coda.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1246502 Composed by Euday L. Bowman. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime,Standards. Octavo. 21 pages. Scott S. Stewart #841168. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.1246502). The infectiously upbeat “12th Street Rag†was composed by Texas composer Euday L. Bowman near the end of the Ragtime era in 1914.  James S. Sumner was commissioned to write ‘typically clever’ lyrics that were added in 1919.  It has, over time, become an enduring standard in jazz repertoire.  This arrangement is scored for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano 4-hand accompaniment, with Sumner’s witty words.  In true Texas (ragtime) style, enjoy this fine piece of Americana in all its glory at an even, leisurely pace.  Performance time: 3:50+-.

Viola Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.552083 Composed by Johann Pachelbel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Individual part. 2 pages. Jmsgu3 #6116381. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552083). The famous wedding classic arranged for Solo Viola.Duration: 2:12Score: 2 pages. The famous Pachelbel Canon arranged for Solo Viola. A great choice for weddings & receptions! Pachelbel's Canon Pachelbel's Canon is, in fact, the traditional title for a composition by the German composer Johann Pachelbel. Other names for the work include namely: Canon and Gigue for 3 violins and basso continuo, Canon and Gigue in D, and of course Canon in D. We do not know when or why in particular it was written. The oldest copy is surprisingly from the 19th century. It is important to realize that it was a common routine for organists to practice improvisation on the chord progression underlying the canon. Pachelbel originally scored the Canon notably for three violins and continuo. He also in fact paired the Canon with a gigue. The movements are homotonal, to clarify, both are in the key of D major. History In due time, Pachelbel's Canon went out of style and remained in virtual oblivion for centuries. The Jean-François Paillard chamber orchestra, however, recorded an arrangement of it in 1968. As a result, it gained approval. Many ensembles began likewise to record the piece in the 1970s and by the 1980s became ubiquitous as background music. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, pop songs correspondingly used elements of the piece. The chord progression, in particular, was used this way. Also, since the 1980s, it has been not only wildly popular for weddings, but also for funeral ceremonies in the USA and Europe. Pachelbel Background Johann Pachelbel (1653 –1706) was a German composer, as well as an organist. He was furthermore instrumental in bringing the south German organ school to its apex. He wrote a large body of music, both sacred and, equally important, secular. In particular, he uniquely helped develop the chorale prelude and fugue. For this, he has, in fact, earned a rightful place in the company of the most significant composers of the mid-Baroque period. Works Pachelbel's music was certainly popular. With this in mind, he also consequently had many pupils. His music expressly developed into a model for south German composers. Nowadays, Pachelbel is most famous, particularly for the Canon in D, as well as the F minor Chaconne, the Toccata in E minor, and of course the Hexachordum Apollinis, a set of variations for the keyboard. Influences Johann Jakob Froberger and Johann Caspar Kerll were south German composers who significantly influenced Pachelbel. Furthermore, he was especially influenced by Italians such as Frescobaldi and Poglietti. He frequently preferred an articulate, simple contrapuntal style that highlighted clarity. His music is markedly less extravagant and harmonically adventurous than that of Dieterich Buxtehude. However, as a point often overlooked, like Buxtehude, Pachelbel experimented with different instrumental combinations in his chamber music. Legacy All in all, Pachelbel was most famous as a composer for the keyboard. He composed over two hundred pieces specifically for the instrument. Pachelbel was also surprisingly a prolific composer of vocal music. All in all, about a hundred vocal works survive, including 40 or so large-scale works.
