The Ernest Clarke Updated Method for Trombone is the result of James Biddlecome’s study of the original method book with his teacher, Roger Smith, as well as using it and modifying it in his own teaching studio for over thirty years. This updated version marks F-attachment and alternate positions and includes additional exercises composed by the editor with minor scales, mixed meter, slurring and long tones, most of which are left alone by Clarke. The first 20 of Clarke’s exercises are replaced by the above, making it more of an intermediate/advanced method compared to the original. Mr. Biddlecome’s edition is very well thought out and should be a staple for any serious young performer of the Trombone.

I have often seen the anxiety of my 4 year old grand-daughter searching for the doll, the teddy the her security blanket that she had misled and this would cause quite a drama before going to bed... We would then search the whole house for it... This piano piece is for lower intermediate students and is characterized by a very clear 5/4 beat on the left hand. A good introduction to the 5/4 beat with an interesting melody I hope will please young piano students (and older ones...) and will be useful for teachers.

I wanted to set a precious memory I had from a time when two of my children were quite young.  My daughter Cassi was only 1 year old or so, and my son Christopher about 8.  I was holding my little Cassi in my lap and Christopher was running back and forth through the living room in his Batman cape, pretending to be his hero at that moment!  This memory would come and go for me over the next few years until I began to find musical themes for each child and determined to compose a tone poem with them.

Two years later Mendelssohn wanted to present the work to the young piano virtuoso Delphine von Schauroth, whom he was courting at the time. He reworked it under the new title Rondo capriccioso, making it even more brilliant and adding a moving introductory adagio (thus described in a letter to Fanny). In this form, the work still presents all good pianists with a rewarding challenge. I did a bravoure piece for flute and orchestra respecting the Mendelssohn style.
